my shift keys are broken, so this review is going to lack the excitement i feel about this product.
i've been using flat irons for a long time. i started with the irons you heat up over the stove or in the plug in ceramic oven, but those grew to be difficult and time consuming, so i started looking for a plug in iron. did some research, and i ended up here. sedu, of course had amazing reviews, so i decided it was the iron for me.
i was won over by the black/latin reviews because i am mixed myself. but, i got nervous so i started reading the bad reviews.
okay. here's the deal. if you heat style your hair, you have to take care of it. i can't emphasize right now since my shift keys are broken but believe me... it drives me nuts. i want to scream.
1. condition your hair. imagine that in all caps. ddeeeeeeeppp connndiiitionnninngggggg. it helps with the damage.
2. trim your hair. you're supposed to trim those ends off every 6 weeks. if you don't do that, guess what happens... yup. more damage. especially, if you heat style. your hair grows, the split ends just continue to split. there are tons of leave-in conditioners, oils, all that, on the market. get some.
3. let your hair rest. don't heat style it everyday.
4. to avoid burning your hair, make sure the temperature isn't too high. and don't leave the iron on the pieces too long. my old iron had to be left on sections for a few seconds, this iron just requires a few quick swipes.
i was very skeptical about this iron. but it made my hair so soft and shiney. i'm used to the 'fake straight' feel, but this was real straight feel, like i was born with it.
my husband felt my hair and said 'it feels like silk'. my hair has never felt like silk. it's worth the price.
picture 1, the left picture is my hair naturally, the right picture is my hair blow dried and flat ironed with my old iron.
picture 2, the left picture is when i first flat ironed it with the sedu, and the second is the very next day after a touch up.
bottom line is, this iron is absolutely amazing.

This straightener is the best thing that has ever happened to me! I used to be miserable with my corkscrew-curly, fizzy, thick, coarse hair,but i could never find anything to straighten it! I owned a CHI, but it always left my hair kinky, dry, frizzy, "heavy"-looking, and it had that "fake straight" look. The Sedu leaves my hair soft, shiny, manageable, smooth, frizz-free, and it even remains this way in humidity and rain or snow!!!!!!!!!!! If you are looking for "the straightener", you must BUY THIS!! It pays for itself in about 2 uses and continues to-over and over and over again!!!!
P.S. I've had it for about 9 months, and it hasen't changed in performance, quality, or condition...

I bought my iron about 4 months ago.. i LOVE it..it really is the best iron, my iron feels silkier and better than before. I think the chi iron was burning my hair out, my hair was always ripped and felt burnt after i would use the chi. I'm very glad with my purchase, my hair looks better than ever- salon straight! :)

my sister, mother, and me all have Sedu hair straighteners and love them! I am Latina but had extremely thick curly hair-similar to black girl's hair. And this is the only iron the works for all of our hair. I makes it smooth and shiny....even the ends look healthy and not nappy. I would high reccommend this to anyone with thick, coarse, or "ethnic" hair.

This is an awesom straightener! It use to take me 2 hours to straighten, now it takes me about a half hour : ) The only thing bad is that it has caused a lot of split ends on my hair, but all straighteners do that. I still lOvE my sedu! Here's a before and after pic of me. I know... I got a fro... Lol. The first pic is of my hair after it's blow dried, the 2nd pic is blow dried then straightened.
Once you figure out your routine, you'll get the results you're looking for

I have been using the Sedu flatiron for about a month now...and I have to say, it really has changed my life. I've always had super-curly hair (that I HATE) and even after blow-drying and flatironing, my hair still always had bumps and waves where the curls used to be. It always had that "fake straight" look to it. I could never get it to look even remotely like a blow-out from a salon. But the Sedu gets my hair so pin straight and shiny, it looks like naturally straight hair. Honestly, I still can't believe that this is MY hair...and that I am able to do this MYSELF!
When I first received the Sedu, I have to admit, I was a little dissapointed. Yes, it got my hair straight...but after about an hour or so, it would start to get big waves at the bottom and would start looking dry and damaged. I figured out that the problem was that I didn't have the heat setting up high enough. I was so afraid of damagaging my dry, color-processed, thin hair, that I was too cautious and wasn't using enough heat. Once I turned up the heat, I get the results I want, and my hair looks shinier than ever.
This is a great product...if you are not completely satisfied at first, play around with different heat settings and hair products (I tried Redken Smooth Down after reading all the reviews, and I think it is great!). I am positive that if you are patient and determined, you'll figure out what works best for you and you'll get the results that you are looking for.
And, I just have to say that I have been wearing my hair straight in the RAIN after using the Sedu! As long as I clip it back, and use an umbrella, there is no problem with frizz whatsoever! Great product :)

I live in Houston (hugh humidity), I have very waivy hair that will not stay straight. I've tried everything from Chi to Clairol ceramic straighteners and nothing works like SEDU. It does not pull or snag my hair, it leaves the hair shaft completely closed and shiny so that no humidity penetrates the hair shaft and leaves it straighter longer (without the puffiness). I can exercise, play outside, sleep on my SEDU straightened hair and it still looks fabulous! I highly recommend it! I've purchased one for my stepdaughter in Louisiana and she loves it. After seeing how my hair goes from wavy to straight, my co workers and friends have purchased their own SEDU. Trust me, SEDU works!!

It was very good....but It isnt the best out there. I like it though. I dont love it. It does a great job & I would actually give this starighner a 4 & a half if I could. I like my hair both ways. It takes me about 20 mintutes or less to straighten. =]]

I sort of thought that I would have smoother hair after using the Sedu. But I was wrong it does make your hair STRAIGHT without any problems; although, my hair is very dry and brittle, more since I've been using the Sedu. All flat iron are horrible for hair, so this one shouldn't be excluded from that fact!

I bought this straightner a while ago. Let me tell u, when i need to go somewhere, i just get it out do my hair. Afterwards my hair is really straight and silky. I have thick, frizzy, stuburn hair. Nothing did the job- plus most of the straightners pulled my hair and i hated that. Good thing this straightner came along, is the Best i've ever tried..

I've had mine for a year and a half now, and I just don't know what I would do without it. The only other iron I would ever own, is a Solia (I tried my friedns and I just love it) It is heavier than my Sedu, which for me is a plus. Most people like the fact that the Sedu is so light. I personally prefer a heavier iron. Plus it doesn't get hot on the outside like the Sedu. That being said, the Sedu has been great!. Much better than Chi, T3, Hi, and my $398 bioionic piece of junk. I decided to post this pictures, since the option wasn't available when I posted my original review. I usually blow dry my hair first. But today I worked out, and after washing my hair, I didn't feel like blow drying. So I put on a little Sebastian Potion 9, with a little Salerm lamilux spray and put it up in a pony tail. I let it air dry all day. I got bored and decided to flat iron my hair after it was dried. Wow, I forgot why I love my Sedu so much. It came out this good without blow drying. Trust me, it comes out much better when I blow dry first. This thing is great. Like I said, the only other iron I would ever buy is a Solia, which I'm getting when my Sedu breaks down (which I hope is never).

I did alot of research before buying this flat iron to determine what would work best with my thick African American hair, even bought the CHI Flat iron because I couldn't find this one in retail stores.
I must say, it is a superior product; better than CHI.
CHI you can't control temperature, but you can with SEDU.
It heats up very quickly and does not break my hair (my main problem with flat irons).
I would recommend this, its worth price.
A must have for your hair!!!

I am in love with my Sedu flat iron! This is the best product I have ever use on my hair and it's so much healthier now. I was always going to the beauty salon and getting my hair pressed out with a hot comb and it so long for my beautician to finish, and on top of that I was going back to get my hair pressed again every two weeks!!! This took such a burden off of me because I am African American and I have natural hair so if I step out side on a humid day my hair is an automatic puff ball!!! The sedu tames the frizzes and keeps my hair moisturized and shine, my hair is the healthest it's ever been thanks to my Sedu!!! It takes less than 2 minutes to heat up and only takes me twenty minutes to flat iron my hair and because it's ceramic I can touch up my hair as often as I need because it doesn't cause damage like a hot comb does! The Sedu is a must have and I will admit I was skeptical because I am African American and my hair is extremely thick, tangled, and just a pain period. However, with my Sedu flat iron you would never know, so it worth your money by far, it's the best investment I have made in a very long time!!

I just love my Sedu! I've been using store-bought flat irons (conair & revlon) for about the past 4 years and none of those ever came close to the results I'm getting with my Sedu now. It heats up super quickly and takes me only about 10-12 minutes to straighten my hair. Thanks to this I don't have to wake up as early to do my hair. I straighten my hair the night before, do some quick touch-ups in the morning and I'm all set. The Sedu doesn't pull my hair at all, which I totally love, and I hardly need any glossing cream. I'm constantly touching my hair now because it's just so soft and silky! Also, folica's service was quick and awesome. I would definitely order more stuff from here and I highly recommend people to buy this straightener - it is definitely worth the money!

I'd had a Kenta flat iron for about 4 years. It was recommended to me by my hair stylist. I was rather pleased with it, but by no means was it a 5 star quality flat iron. It recently gave out and I was going to replace it with another Kenta product... that is until I saw all the reviews for Sedu. I decided to give it a shot and ordered it. Sadly, the first two times I straightened my hair I wasn't very pleased with the results though it did get my hair straight. I then decided the next time I straightened my hair I would try a different temperature setting. I'd never had to worry about this before because the Kenta only had one heat setting. I'm happy to say that did the trick. I can't believe how much more I love my hair now. I know the price might turn people off but because I have coarse, thick, nappy, wild hair and nothing ever really works for me I'm willing to pay that price and more. It really is a great iron. Better than the Kenta I had and waaaaay better than any iron from Sally's. I'm including a picture but because I'm a little camera shy I cropped some it off. I hope it's enough for everyone to see the great results.
