hey so i had my sedu for about almost a year now (bought it at x-mas time)
it was horrible!!
it worked just as well as a drugstore straightener which wasn't very good!!
it burnt my ends and left it very dry.
and im now planning to buy a new straightener (herstyler, chi or solia)
im hoping they'll work alot better than the sedu!!
not even a year and it died

Everyone I knew had a CHI and I was dying to finally make the splurge and get one myself, but after reading all the comments about unreliability I decided on a SEDU, it worked perfect but just last week it completely died. I tried different plugs and reset but it will just not turn on. I bought this last fall so it hasn't even been a year now. It'll cost 30$ US to return it as I'm in Canada so it really sucks. Hopefully I can get a CHI instead this time.. I've never dropped it or done anything weird to it, it just stopped working!
SEDU is Fantastic!

I really like this iron. It smoothes my hair with minimal heat and effort, and my breakage is reducing now that I switched irons.
I couldn't be happier.

I bought a Sedu Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron (1") after years of frying my hair with cheap flat irons. When I received the product I was very impressed because it did leave my hair softer and silkier than usual, as was promised. Also, I noticed that with consistent use my hair began to look healthier and thicker than it had previously which was certainly exciting.
However, as time went on, I started to notice that the iron wasn't getting as hot as it did in the beginning and the sides of the plates were pulling my hair a bit as it went over. Now, the plates feel as though they've come loose and even move around a bit when the iron is clasped.
Furthermore, the alleged "no tangle cord" is just the opposite, it's a big old mess at this point and impossible to untangle.
One last thing I noticed is I constantly have to push the red "restart" button on the plug before I can use the iron, I don't know if this has anything to do with the tangled cord causing an electrical short, or if it's a type of safety mechanism, but whatever it is it's incredibly annoying.
I'm very careful with my Sedu, considering I paid a decent amount of money for it, and therefore feel that my treatment of the iron could not have possibly been the cause of the afore mentioned damage. I am definitely disappointed with the quality and design of the product even though it has improved my hair.
pretty awesome

When I first got the sedu about a month ago, the results were totally amazing. My hair smelt really great and I had lasting straight hair. However, it kinda felt like I was stripping my hair of it's moisture and it felt like I was damaging it, even on the lowest setting. So I thought I'd try returning it, and spend the money on either a CHI or get some "japanese thermal straightening" done instead. Sadly though, the retailer which I got it from would only exchange it and gave no cash refunds...so I was really stuck. As a last resort, I decided I 'd get my hair permanently straightened and just sell the sedu to one of my friends or something...but when I got to the salon, they said my hair was perfectly healthy and that they wouldn't feel right doing all that damage to my hair just o get a few flips out, so I got my mom to go home and get my sedu so they could tell me if anything was wrong with it, and after they gave me a new haircut, tips(like wash your hair in the morning and blow dry it while pulling the hair down in a straight motion), plus some very expensive straightening balm called techni.art by L'OREAL professionnel Paris, my hair was AMAZING. The hairdresser used my Sedu on the highest heat setting and even though my hair is very fine and only slightly textured, it looked incredible! I had never seen my hair look so great(she also applied some Biosilk Farouk shine stuff after she was done with the iron). So anyway, to make a long story short, the sedu is really what you make it, and it's up to you to find out how to use it to your advantage. Just remember, USE HEAT PROTECTANT(the more expensive the better, actually) and when in doubt, ask for help. I hope I could help ;)

A lot of reviews here rave about how wonderful the Sedu is. Sure, it's great in the beginning but after a year or so it dies. I bought the Sedu a year ago (when they had a 1 year warranty), it was miracle worker but it's not reliable at all. As the year progressed my Sedu was slowly dying. The light would flicker on/off by moving the cord. The cord shorted out in the end and I had to throw it away. I generally took good care of my Sedu and by the time it died my 1 year warranty was up.
If you are looking for a straighener to give you shiny, straight hair and don't care about replacing it every year or so, then buy a Sedu. Otherwise, save your money for a better straightener.

I got this iron in the mail today and was so excited to try it. I am amazed. I have to say, I am a VERY tough critic and for me to even write this review means I AM IN LOVE!! I am african american and a college student. I cannot WAIT to go out tonight to show off my hair. The sedu works wonders!! I've never gotten THIS salon quality with any other iron out there. Although it was a bit pricey, it was SO WORTH THE MONEY!!! I would recommend this to any and everyone but especially to the women of color out there looking to improve the shine and bounce of their hair. Like any other flat iron, I recommend using some sort of heat protectant first. But with that said...ladies (and gents) if you are considering a flat iron, THIS is the way to go!
Its ok much better than the chi

I have gone through so many irons in my past and could not find a iron that worked for me until i found the sedu. The reason I did not rate this a 5 is cuz it pinches you some times so watch out for that. But i have wavey some what thick hair and the sedu does not rip out your hair like the Chi.So I would say it is worth every penny you have.If you have really thinck curly hair my advice is is use the sedu very slowly pass it through your hair and it will get straight in no time.It takes me 10 minutes to straighten my hair with the chi but with the sedu it only takes me 6 minutes.
I love it!

I just order my sedu on Sunday and it came today Tuesday. I will definitely order more things from folica.com. So I had to try it as soon as it was delivered and it was just as the reviews said AMAZING! I was using a Gold n' hot ceramic flat iron and that made my hair feel like it was burning and breaking off, I thought all flat irons were supposed to do that. After trying the sedu I've found out that I can straighten my hair without damaging it and there's no frizz and its soo soft and shiny. I've never seen results like this. I've tried Chi and HAI and they work well but my hair doesn't stay straight as long as it does with the sedu and the other two don't eliminate frizz. I would definitely recommend this flat iron. By the way I have natural African American hair and it looks like i relaxed it.

Ok here goes i am a guy so ive never written any review about HAIR B4. i have been straightening my hair a little bit b4 Halloween last year and ive had 3 straightners since then. I had a crappy Conair that didnt get hot enough to be able to do anything then for x-mas i asked for a straightner and got Remington Wet2Straight and thought it was the best ever it only yook ,r 40 mins to do my hair. It then somehow stopped working around the end of may and i recieved a Helix by Hot Tools iron and it wasnt any good on here its 50 dollars and i bought it for $80 at Ulta and it took me an hour to do itthen up until a week ago i used my girlfriends sedu and i was done in 10 minutes!!!!!! so that sold me cuz im starting highschool and i was gonna have to wake up at like 4:30 to have to shower blowdry and then straighten i was seriously looking into spending hundreds off dollars on the jappanese straightning but not anymore i bought this and it was the best 108.89 i ever spent!!!!

THIS IS THE WORST FLAT IRON I HAVE EVER USED. IT pulled out half my hair from snagging every time I used it. It barely heats up, and after two months of ownerships...it has died. Don't waste your money. The chi is much much much better!! I regret buying this iron. AWFUL!

I have searched many days for the perfect straightener. Reading the articles on Sedu vs. Chi, Sedu vs. Coriolliss and ect. I finally leaned toward getting a Sedu because of all the excellent reviews and also because Sedu promised to protect my hairs. It's quite disappointing when you have pretty hair until you end up damaging it because of a darn straightener. But that's okay, Sedu is designed to protect and to keep in moisture.
It's important to straighten hair when it's dry and to always use a protectant when you straighten so that your hair won't fry. Hot heat against hair isn't good, which is my infared shampoos and conditioners are a must have also in maintaing healthy hair. Thanks everyone else who has posted comments, it has really aided in my choosing a straightener.

I am a guy and i used to have a revlon perfect heat 1 " ceramic iron and i just got thiss in the mail today and it is just PERFECT. i must use caaps for this and never use caps barely.anyways , i have used a black chi before but it snags my hair and reaaaaalllly dries it out . now , the SEDU . : )
it is so so lightweight , it actual weighs as much as a spoon no joke , like theres barely any difference ! i only put it on 320 degrees and with ONE ! , non snagging smooth pass it makes my hair straight as a whip. took me like 10-15 mins to fully do my hair (45 mins with revlon.) It seriously keeps the moisture in my hair . i straightened at 12 today and it is still whip straight now at 9 (pm times) and it is so so smooth and no flyawayss ! this iron can make your hair SCENE straight . {no , im not scene]
please get this ! worth every penny .

I just received my flat iron today. I only had a few minutes to try it out but that's all I needed. It took me 10 minutes to do my whole head! It is an amazing product!!! It didn't snag or pull my hair AT ALL and it straightened my hair completely! It took me forever with my cheap flat iron. I am so glad I made this purchase!!! I am a busy mom of two and don't have time to sit in front of the mirror straightening my hair. Thanks to this product it will take me half the time! It's a MUST HAVE.
I regret the purchase.

I have mid-back, hispanic, very, very curly hair. I was never into the whole 'flat iron' thing, but after I got bangs I sure had to. Then I wanted to straighten my whole head of hair-- without damaging it, of course. For this reason I decided to buy a professional flat iron, and I saw the sedu was constantly being praised by its consumers. No offense, but don't be fooled, its nto for everyone.
Perhaps I should have bought the 1-1/2 sized sedu, but either way, this product just did not cut it. It straightens pretty well, but it didn't make my hair as sleek as I wanted it. You know, salon quality and all. Plus, it would take two and a half GRUELING hours to straighten my whole head. Sometimes, I would get my ends trimmed, and the next day use my sedu, but I would touch my ends the day after that and they were ruined again (and yes, I did use heat protector). It also seemed every time I used my sedu my hair got worse and worse, both the outcome and its quality, not to mention the sedu itself was not getting as hot as I needed. Finally, it died out on me towards the end of June. I got it in December. The year limited warranty wasn't even over yet, and I took exceptional care of my sedu. Anyway, I figured, good ridance. It wasn't worth it anyways. I ordered a Solia 1-3/4 just the other day, and it arrived today. I have high hopes for it, because I tested it on my bangs and WOW. Straight as can be ^^ I'm sure it'll last longer than the sucku, and it was cheaper as well. If you ARE going to purchase the sedu however, and you have long/thick hair, save yourself the pain and get the 1-1/2 inch iron. I also wish you better luck with yours than I had with mine =/

I bought this product almost a year ago. After going through countless cheap straighteners with a mind towards saving money, I realized that I would be better off just to go ahead and spend a little more for a quality product that would last me, which this has. I have had nothing but good experiences with this straightener, it works fantastically, and doesn't break hairs or cause too much damage. I would highly recommend it, it's not as expensive as it could be, and it's definitely worth the money, even if you don't straighten your hair too often, because it lasts a long time and works very well.

I purchased the Sedu after my cheap $30 Hot tools iron was emitting a really bad chemical smell. I had the hot tools for well over 7 years!!! I decided to go for a more expensive one.I did tons of research on many different irons. I decided to purchase the Sedu. When I received it I was suprised to find how cheap looking it was. It does work but makes your hair dead flat. That wasnt the problem though. The iron gets sooooo hot! I usually hold the iron with both my hands. One hand I hold the handle and the other I hold the end of it to keep the iron tightly closed and to guide it through my hair. I couldnt even touch it for 1 second! I had to use 1 hand and after a while my arm was hurting me. You also cant get it close to your scalp. My sister bought the Kiyoseki and its much better. It doesnt burn your scalp and you can hold it. Also the Kiyoseki has much better quality and the tempurature is digital. I shouldve bought the Kiyoseki.

I bought this product in January 2008. I only used it occasionally and it stopped working in June 2008. I took care of it too...let it cool down before storage, never dropped, etc. I paid way too much. When it did work, the quality was great(way better than a cheap one that can be bought at a regular store), but I have a feeling there are others out there that perform equally or even better at a lower price. I recently ordered a Solia from Folica (store credit since my Sedu was covered under warranty), which I should be receiving soon. I hope it last longer...
