I have been eyeing this straightener for a few weeks now and have tried to read all the reviews and info I can about it. I am new to the straightening phenom, usually always use hot rollers or curling irons. So here's my question--how does this sedu work on fine, sort of on the thin side hair that is normally without any body? I have been using my daughter's Vidal Sassoon gold plate 2 inch straightener every once in awhile. Because my hair is a lot finer than hers, (and permed at the moment) I want the best straightener for fine hair I can find. I haven't tried the Sedu yet, but I can tell you to stay away from the Chi! I have really fine hair too and recently bought the Chi on a friend's advice. Bad idea! She has really thick, curly hair. The Chi doesn't have temp. settings so you have to use a really high heat, which just isn't needed for fine hair. it fried mine after only a few uses, and that's with using heat protectors and BioSilk! | | Reply by Vivian

U should get "Sedu" coz it has Temp. settings you can set it to the lowest temp. I have super fine thin hair just like u & i had just purchase CHI at the Salon recently & i had to return them coz it did fry my hair, no setting temp. & its ceramic coated not so good..I hope

Don't use thinner, gasoline or alcohol...it clearly states that in the owner's manual. You should use a soft cloth to take it off. | | Reply by Anonymous

just try using the sedu iron cleaner | will Sedu keep my hair straight w/ no frizz
I've had a Chi straightener for about a year now, it works better than Hot Tools and other cheaper brands, but now I'm started to see that my hair is breaking and getting more damaged every time I straighten it. I have very long, thick, wavy/curly, dark brown hair (past the center of my back)and I'm starting to see even the color lightening up at the ends of my hair, also when I straighten my hair with the Chi it looks really shiny and pretty when I first iron it but NEVER stays really, really straight like the way I want it to and in the humitity my hair looks puffy and frizzy. Would the 1.5" Sedu Iron work best for my hair type? Thanks, Katey (16) Question posted by Katey Mohr Tue Oct 04 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by Edi

I've had my Sedu for about a year now, and it's the only iron I've owned. As of yet, I've neither had problems with my hair getting damaged or the iron itself. I also have long, VERY thick, wavy, almost black hair. My hair is still as healthy as when I first started using it. Make sure you use the correct kind of conditioner for your hair, the best that works for me is Infusium 23. Look under the "tips & advice" tab, several people have posted ways to care for your hair. If your hair is very damaged, try to let it air dry before you iron it instead of doing it while it's damp or wet (I wash mine at night and iron it in the morning or before I go to bed). This might help a little too.. use Biosilk after using your iron, a little goes a long way. My hair stylist uses the Chi on my hair, but I still like the Sedu better. | | Reply by sarah

you need to get a trim. your hair will lighten up when it gets older, that is why virgin hair is lighter at the ends... but if you are going to spend more than 100 dollars on a flat iron, DO NOT buy a chi. they will do more damage to your hair than any other expensive 'salon' flat iron | Sedu VS Solia
I have used a friend's Solia flat iron and loved it- but since seeing the Sedu it is starting to win me over however, in comparison the Solia is a 1/4" larger, there us a larger temperature range for heat settings (Solia: 140F-450F vs Sedu: 240F-410F) and that you can use it on damp hair. What can compare against the aforementioned points to sell me on the Sedu over the Solia? P.S. Is the Sedu the iron that was used on Jennifer Anistons hair??? My sister has Solia and I have Sedu. Both are great. Sedu is light-weight and easy to handle. The best feature of Sedu is ultrasmooth plate, my hair is really shiny after sedu.
On the other hand, Solia seem to do the same thing to my hair, but it is a little bit heavier than Sedu. The good thing is that it is less expensive.
Since you already used your friend's Solia, and like it. Just get Solia, stick to what you know. | sedu or true ceramic pro

I haven't owned a Sedu (though am seriously considering the purchase after shopping around). DO NOT buy the True Ceramic Pro. It works great while it lasts, but I've been through 2 in the past year and a half. They break. And they break after the warrenty ends. Don't buy this unless you plan on replacing less than every year. | | Reply by Virginia

Hi, I currently own my second true ceramic pro. It is crap, just like the first one. I have a second because the first one started chipping paint from the straightening plates. It wasn't more than a week of use on my "replacement" TCP when it also started chipping. I used it anyway (because of how much I paid for it) and it snagged and and broke my hair off. Anyway my 2nd TCP just refuses to turn on anymore, it died after a month of using it like 3X per week. I bought a Sedu and absolutely love it, I highly recommend it. | hair burning
How do you know if you are burning your hair while straightening? Is it just trail and error finding the right temperture for your hair type? How do you find that perfect temp? Question posted by Kelsey Fri Sep 23 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by Liz

the best way to approach this problem is by starting with the lowest temperature setting. I haven't used sedu yet, but I do have a wigo ceramic... and thats how I figured it out... I just incresed the heat settings if I thought the temperature was a little low... this way, u can ease ur hair into getting used to the high heat! hope this helps! | WHAT DOES TOURMALIINE MEAN

Tourmaline, a precious stone, generates up to 6 times more negative ions upon heating than traditional ceramic irons. The extra negative ions along with gentle far-infrared heat guarantee soft, smooth, frizz-free silky straight hair without heat damage.
that was on the page that says tourmaline flat irons | permanently straight hair??
I have thick/coarse, naturally wavy hair that I like to wear straight, but only occasionally. I'm worried that this flat iron is so good that it'll change the structure of my hair permanently and make my wave go away for good. Has anyone else noticed that their hair is less curly/wavy in between straightening sessions (i.e. after washing your hair)? Thanks!! Only chemicals and/or SOMETIMES hormones (for example pregnancy) can change curly hair to straight. A flat iron, no matter how often you use it, will not change your natural curliness permenantly. | | Reply by Betsey

Not at all. I keep my unnecessarily curly hair straight with this iron about 20 days out of the month, and my hair's texture has not changed in the year and a half I've been using this iron. I've been using flat irons to straighten my hair for about 7 years, and there has been no change in my hair's texture. | | Reply by Hannah

I have a sister who uses her hot tools iron so much it litterally killed her hair enough to permanently keep it stright. But its only stright becaue its dead. If you do strighten it enough it might happen to you but thats it other then chemicals. | | Reply by Liz

Straightenig hair will start to take a toll on ur hair and damage and start to straighten the hair so to prevent that use heat protecting spray and deep conndition it once a week but that only happens if you use it ALOT. | | Reply by Marilyn

I have found that when I straighten my hair, I am brushing it more to blow out, causing more oil from my scalp to coat my hair. I can naturally weight it down more days, but I actually find my hair bounces back from it quickly within a fews. Sometimes if I go too long with straight my hair demands to be curly again and really kinks up fast again. I think hair has it's own personality and it varies... | | Reply by stephanie

Not a bit! I have been straightening my hair about 4 times a week for the past 5 years and my hair is still as curly as ever. | Plate Width

babyliss 2 1/2 inch is the best one ivc tried so far im saddened to say i lost over this holiday weekend in a hotel in boston, ma so now i think im going to have to try the sedu. you can use the straightner for your layers and almost use it as a curling iron also to give it some body. so far it the best i ever had and the bigger plate gets more done faster. | | Reply by Karen
