African American. No bounce hair
My hair gets pretty straight with the flat iron I have, but it doesn't get stick straight. I have thick, coarse, african american hair. I was wondering if the Sedu will get my hair straight AND will it make my hair bounce? I want my hair to be able to be light and straight, and shiny.Thank you all for your help!

I am sure that the Sedu will work on your hair. I don't pretend to know how African American hair works, but I can tell you that my Sedu worked miracles on my dry frizzy Indian hair! It's shiny, bouncy, soft and pin straight! You should also get the CHI Silk Infusion, it would help dramatically with the softness and shine!

Yes you can use it on your hair. I have a relaxer in my hair and I had it straightened with the Sedu at a Salon. My hair was so bouncy. They also cut off all of the see-through ends from my hair and didn't put any oil on the hair (that prevents it from bouncing) just a little on the scalp. I honestly wish they would sell the Sedu here in Canada. I'm seriously thinking of doing some across the border shopping to get it.

which products?
Hey, I have medium length, frizzy, curly, fine, thin hair and I was wondering what products would be good to use before and/or after I flat-iron my hair. I've tried frizz-ease stuff, but it never works. It just makes my hair stiff and hay-like. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hey Allie! Frizz Ease never works! You should try the FHI Heat Hot Sauce. Apply on wet hair, I usually don't need to blowdry my hair with this product so much it's awesome! A little goes a very long way and my crazy s**ty hair feels so soft and shiny. I also use a drop of Got2b Glossy before ironing.

if you dont want to spend a lot of money, try one of the Sedu heat protectants sold on this website, they work really well, or if you want to go a little more high end you can try Biosilk or FHI Heat Hot Sauce, both sold on this site also.

I too suffer from the frizzy medium lenght hair, and it's frightening just how many products I've tried. Hands down the best one is Aveda's Hang Straight. You put in before you blow dry. It works wonders if it a shot! Most Aveda salons will give you a sample so you can try before you buy.

Kiehls Silk Groom can be used on wet hair and also for styling your hair after you've used the iron. I haven't tried the iron with product applied directly to my dried hair. A little--I'm talking pea size, and I have a lot of hair--goes a long, long way. It's not greasy or crunchy in your hair.

How long does it take?
I have curly, thick hair that is a few inches below my shoulder and hard to straighten. I currently use a Remington Wet2Straight straightener and it takes me about an 1 and a half to straighten my hair. I am considering buying this straightener, but I want to know how long it might take to straighten my hair. If you could say how long it takes you or if you have a guesstimate for my hair that would be great. Much appreciated.=]

I have very thick curly hair and have been using a sedu for almost 2 yrs. My hair is so shiney and straight. It only takes me about 45 min to straighten my hair and it is to the middle of my back. I would never use anything else

Flicking on/off Light
I recently got this Sedu flat iron and I immediately noticed upon turning it on that the green light is flickering like crazy. Is that normal? Is it suppose to flicker or just stay green constantly when on?

Read the manual, it is supposed to blink rapidly after it reaches the set temperature.

I bought a sedu nano revolution, and the light would start flickering after a while, and I thought it was faulty and sent it back for the regular sedu. The green light begins flickering on this one too. So I figured that's how it's supposed to be, I doubt folica would send me two faulty irons. I was wondering if I was the only one with this problem!

As soon as the light starts flickering you are ready to use the flat iron. (it has reached the heat setting that you set it on)

Yes, if you read the instructions it says that once the green light starts flickering it is ready to use.

Of course it can be used on male hair. If your hair is very wavy, it'll help to wash your hair in hot water to relax the waviness a bit then use the flat iron to straighten it.

Guys should go with the 1 inch. I'm not being sexist, but I think that guys can manipulate it more, plus if you ever got your hair cut, the 1 inch would come in handy.

Static
I have relatively fine hair, and during winter and some parts of spring, it tends to hold a great deal of static electricity, especially after I straighten it with my current straightener. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, does the Sedu conduct more static?

I have had great success using a product called Static Guard. I don't have as much of a problem with static if I straighten while hair is still freshly washed, but if the hair is completely dry, yes, I have static. What I do is spray Static Guard on the hairbrush and immediately brush underneath the hair...spray brush again and immediately brush from the forehead back and on the sides. Sometimes it takes two or three "passes" with a freshly sprayed brush to completely eliminate the static, but this stuff does work. Read the safety information on the can and be aware that the product is flammable. You will also want to avoid breathing the vapors and if you're doing someone else's hair, spray away from them. Spray directly on the brush, very close to the bristles and brush immediately. I have never used the product directly on the hair and would not recommend it. Static Guard is great stuff and they even have a travel size. If you're getting static and don't have the spray handy, I've had success with rubbing just a little bit of hand lotion (or even plain water) on my palms and smoothing my hands over, under, and through the hair. Good luck!

Comparison
What is better a Sedu or a Chi? Some one who has tried both i have long thick curly hair that takes me up to two hours to straighten with the Hot tools one i have now. It leaves my hair dry and damaged. Of the two what has the best over all effect and why?

i really dont find a difference between the sedu or the chi.. the chi is a lot smaller but both the chi and sedu work AMAZINGLY.. hot tools works good, but you have to keep going over the hair to get it pin straight. It also breaks ur hair because it gets caught in the edges. i just ordered my sedu today. i cant wait to get it ( ;

I really prefer the sedu to the chi. The sedu has different temperature settings which is nice. Also, my chi broke much faster then the sedu from the same amount of useage.

i have both the sedu and the chi. to me, the sedu is much better because it has heat settings and is much lighter weight. also, i have really thick hair and the sedu straightens it in 10 minutes

I honestly like the sedu waay better. It cut the time to straighten my hair in half and made it feel smoother than the chi did.

How long does it take?
Im about to order my Sedu right now, I just need to know how long the process of flattening it is. I have medium wavy hair, and I need a ballpark estimate on about how long it will take me to straigten my whole head Also, do you have to run it through one piece of hair more than once?

I cut my straightening time from about 40 minutes to 15. My hair is curly frizz ball and it can easily be tamed with the Sedu in 15 minutes. As long as you only go by 1 inch chuncks of hair you will not have to run the straightner thru more than once. Do be careful with the cord though, if it is tangled alot and in knots it will short out.

i have medium naturally curly thick hair and i put my hair in 4 sections before flattening, it takes me about 15 mins, and then i go through my hair after the first time and redo any pieces that have kinks in them.

i have long, thick curly hair, mid back to be exact. I part my hair and straighten sections at a time. I clip up more than half my hair straighten that.. then i let a little more down etc.. my hair takes about 15-20 minutes to straighten.. the smoothing fluid from aveda works well before straightening my hair..

I have this problem with my hair from time to time, and for me, it means that I need a cut. Some cuts are meant to flip out, so maybe you should communicate with your stylist that you are trying to avoid this.
