How much do I need to blow dry?
So I know that in order to get the most out of this flat iron and any other, you need to blow dry your hair first. My question is," Do I need to blow dry my hair somewhat straight or do I just need to blow dry my hair so that it is dry before I actually start using the flat iron?

Just make sure that it's dry. It doesn't matter how straight it is.

Using a flat iron on wet or even damp hair is a very bad idea. Get your hair as dry as possible before using your sedu. I have thick, coarse, wavey, frizzy, color treated, anglo hair. I seriously hate blowdrying my hair - it takes forever, and frizzes my hair. So I wash my hair at night, sleep on it wet, and wake with Medusa-like hair. Seriously terrible, yet clean and dry hair. The sedu is able to straighten it out in no time. I use the sedu near the top of the heat range and have hair that is in about the best condition possible for my hair.

Do you still have volume?
My hair is straight but its a little wavy in the back. I also have layers that make my look poofy if I don't straighten it, and its about 2 or 3 inches past my shoulders. Two questions: 1) does the Sedu make your hair flat on top like the Chi? (I've used a Chi and my hair had NO volume whatsoever!) 2) can you curl your hair with the 1 1/2 inch iron? I've been using a Hot Tools 2 inch and its slowly dying, any feedback would be great! Thanks.

If your hair is already straight, any straigtening iron will make it flat. The trick is to alternate between flipping the ends in and out because it will make your hair have more volume. Its funny because I discovered about a couple months ago how to curl your hair on the sedu and it works great! When i sleep on them, they even look good. I have had my iron prolly 2 years and its still works great! I have the 1 1/2 inch version and I can't imagine using anything else. Hope this helps!

Products for Air dry vs. Blowdry
Hi, I normally prefer to wash my hair at night and let it airdry overnight and then straighten with a Sedu in the morning. Can I use the same heat protection products as I would if I blowdry my hair?! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The products that protect your hair against the blow dryer work to protect your hair aainst the straightening iron too. They could both damage your hair by heat and thats what the products prevent. So yes, you can use the same products. Make sure the products you used for the blow dryer are for dry hair also or it makes your hair look greesy.

Thick Hair, Which Plate?
I have a 1 inch plate flat iron that I've purchased a long time ago. I'm looking into purchasing a Sedu, but uncertain if I should go with the 1 inch or 1.5 inch plate. My hair length is passed my brassiere strap. It's poofy and wavy. (Surprise! I'm Asian and I have naturally curly hair.) The 1 inch takes me approximately 45 minutes to flat iron. Then, I have to go back thru it again for touch ups several hours later. Then again, mine is a generic brand flat iron. I'm hoping to not go thru that with a Sedu. What's a good size for my length of hair and wavyness?

You should get 1.5 inch.

well, i would definitely go with the 1.5 inch Sedu. my hair is similar to yours: medium length and wavy. the 1 inch hair straightener seems to take up too much time to straighten my thick, wavy hair. the 1.5 inch lets you spend less time straightening and more time doing other things! in fact, i just bought the 1.5 inch Sedu today! :]

I'd go w/ the 1.5 in. one because I have medium length curly, thick hair & the 1 in. takes like an hour but the 1.5 in only takes me like 25 min.

To spray or not before
I'd like to use this for smoothing out frizz and curling my hair. My curls tend to fall flat within 30 minutes but I dislike the curling sprays that make your hair stiff and crunchy, not to mention flakey build-up. Do you use any products on your dried hair prior to styling with this iron or is that a no-no?

First of all, I do not recommend this straightener to curl because it has square edges, for curling try the new Sedu Revolution, it has round edges. Square edges tend to put creases in your hair. Yes, you can put products in your hair prior, make sure they are dried before ironing.

Difference
Hi, I am a Male with hair just below my ears and I straighten it everyday using a Remington Slimline, I'm thinking about buying the Sedu.. Is their a difference between the quality of the 1" and this 1-1/2" Sedu straightener? Do they both work the same, if they do I'd rather go with buying the 1" one but other straighteners e.g. the GHD are 'better'.Thankyou

Well one thing for sure is that for short hair, you need to get the 1 inch. I know 1/2 an inch seems pretty small, but in reality its a LOT of difference!!!! The 1 1/2 inch is TOO big for short-medium hair. If you have very very curly hair, you need to get as close as possible to the roots, to get your hair completely straight. Both are alike, but i suggest maybe looking at the newer version of sedu. As the plates are the exact same as the original Sedu's except for the fact that they're scratch resistant. Hope i helped:D

Been looking around...
I have around shoulder lenght hair when its curly and mid back to bum area when straight. My hair is big curly frizzy and takes me forever to striaghten. After I straighten it it normally becomes curly and i have to have it braided for the day. It takes so much mousse in my hair to make it look ok and its sitll poofy. I want straight hair but I do not want it chemically straightened so I have been looking into hair straighteners(i use 2 to get my hair ok, and sometimes jsut blow it outwhich sitll frizzes.) I need the truth. How long will this one take me? How long will my hair stay straight? Will it remove poof and/or frizz? Any comments will help and are appreciated! Thank you! =] p.s.-if you know of a cheaper one that works that would be great because I don't know if I will be able to get this one, but the cheaper ones I have looked at, as expected, are of very bad quality.

I have the Solia 1-1/4 inch it costed me $88. It works great. The solia will probably take you 45 mins to an hour. The reason I'm recommending the solia is because it has smaller plates, which helps you to get to the roots better and plus it's a bit cheaper. Before you dry your hair(when wet) put a nickel amount of CHI silk infusion or biosilk in, these products help contol frizz and protect against heat damage. Also they make hair silky and soft. When hair is done straightened, I recommend you use a frizz control like dove anti-frizz cream. The shampoo that works great for poofy hair is Sunsilk Anti-Poof(avalible at any drug store or food store) Try that conditioner to. =] This straightner will keep hair straight untill you get it all wet. Section hair, put half up in a clip and flat iron the bottom half first, when done flat iron the top. You should spray a misty hairspray over the finished product. I recommend going for the more pricey flat irons because they are less damaging and take less time to straighten.

Well i am not entirly sure, but i have extremly curly hair also and mine is midway down my back. It is fine, but i have A LOT of it!! A LOT! When i use the sedu it only takes me about a half hour. It helps to blow dry with a diffuser first so it doesnt get soooo big and frizzy that you cant maintain it. Hop this helps!

Im half black and half asian and i have really curly hair that frizzes if i dont put tons of gel and hairspray and ive done the chemical straightening, Ive been to black salons and had it flat ironed everytime i wanted it straight without the chemical(and that adds up money wise...) and finally i got tired of spending money to straighten my hair when i knew my hair texture was more towards the african side but still shouldnt need that much effort.. I got the sedu 3 days ago...tried it...and i live in california, so within the last 3 days it has been 70 degrees and hot and for some reason it rained today and my hair hasnt frizzed or anything and its still pin straight and frizz free and still salon quality! So the sedu may be expensive and when you see the iron you'll think to yourself "it looks like every other iron" but its worth it. Your hair will be straight as long as you want it too and be salon quality. (and trust me ive owned every blow dryer and flat iron ) I'll be honest, i blow dried my hair first, flat ironed piece by piece of my hair and used a smoothing product on my hair before each pass with the sedu and passed over each section twice to be sure i got it completely straight... it took me an hour (which isnt so bad if you do your hair the night before). The quality was really good for me and worth it in the end and now my hair looks like its more towards my asian side its so straight and im only going to salons for color and trims from now on. So hope that helps and gives you a good idea about this product.

I just bought this straightener and i love it. My hair is extremely poofy and curly. This is the only thing that seems to work on it. I have tried cheaper ones but my hair doesnt stay straight. The sedu also got rid of my frizz. It takes me about 15 minutes to get straight. And once i straighten it, it stays straight. It also makes your hair really soft and silky.

FRIZZ
Hi I Have Really FRIZZY hair!!! i Have been using a cheep ANdies straightener and it just breaks my hair. My friend bought a Herstyle Straightener and it seems to work really well on her hair. Is this straightener similar to the Herstyle straightener?

Every straightener is different, this does work great, it is top of the line on this site. Although I would go for the Sedu 1 inch, since you have frizzy hair, it will help you get better to the root. Use heat protection ALWAYS because heat damage can cause frizz and breakage. Try Biosilk it is great for frizz, heat protection, and gives you silky hair(use after a towel dry after shower, put a nickel size amount in hand, work through wet hair). Also try Dove Anti-frizz cream after straightened, works great to control frizz.

to be honest i HATE straightners, and i don't believe anyone should use them because it ruins your hair, yes, even if you use heat protective creams and sprays. I prefer keeping the curl (or for some people straight), for me i simply do this - add the 'after shower' creams in the shower, firstly soak your hair in COLD water then comb it, put on the cream/s, switch to warm water, soak your hair again (while finger combing) switch back to cold water add your cream/s again finger combing them through (yes while under the cold water)for around ten minutes, then when your out of the shower flip your hair back and apply the cream/s again add a no frizz spray, and let it dry naturally, you can pat it dry for a bit, or scrunch it with the towel (only if you have curly hair) DO NOT TOUCH YOUR HAIR UNTIL DRY AFTERWARDS. sorry, i had to add a soloution for frizzy hair that doesn't involve straightners =) i've been doing this for a hour =P

Do I Need Hair Products?
The flat iron that I use now requires hair straightening products to help the process of straightening my hair. Can the Sedu be used on just my normal frizzy dry hair or do i need to add hair products, dry my hair, and then use the Sedu?

Yes, but you should always use heat protection products, any hot styling tool can cause breakage. I recommend you try CHI silk infusion. It will give you everything you need in one bottle. It protects hair from heat damage, contols frizz, have silky-soft hair, and makes styling easy. Worth the money

I use Sunsilk serums to protect against the heat. Anti-frizz would probably work great for you. On my masses of hair I use anti-poof. They really help smoothen your hair out.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Relaxers are very drying and damaging.

Yes, you can still use the iron, but you'll have to lower the heat setting. Start low and work your way up. Also, try to concentrate on the roots (that are not relaxed), and just make quick passes over the rest of your hair. Your hair is already weakened from the relaxer, you don't want or NEED to heat it any more than necessary.
