yes, you can. the only problem is that over time you may develop split ends. therefore use a good amount of sirum at the ends of your hair.

Yes, you can. But it may cause dry ends so use a leave-in conditioner first. Here's a video to help you with this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qrMPuIdQ0vw She's using the same Sedu straightener in this video (:

does it straightens your root
i wanted to know do the sedu also straighten the roots of the hair. i have a jibere ceramic iron and it does not even get to the root of my hair. so i am just wondering does it gets the root of your hair straight.

Yes it does. The 1 inch is thin enough so that you can start straightening right at the root. The larger plates leave a line about half an inch from the root but not this iron.

Solia, or Sedu, or what?
For the past year I've been using the Sedu 1" straightener, and although I love it, but I think I need a new one as my hair is no longer very short. It takes me a minimum of 45 minutes with this iron, and my hair is only shoulder length. I have extremely coarse, curly/wavy hair that is overprocessed and dry. I want to know whether the Solia 1 3/4" would be a good pick, or am I better off with a larger Sedu, or what other brand would you recommend?

I use the solia 1 3/4" and I think its the best bet and my hair is 3 inches below my shoulders.

I have very thick, curly hair that is dry. I have highlights put in every 2 - 3 months or so. My hair is just past my shoulders. I had the solia and I was NOT pleased - it pulled and tore out my hair because of the seam between the plate and plastic. It did not hold the style when humid, either. The minute it rained, I had "big" hair again. The larger sedu has been amazing and I am so pleased with it - it holds your hair in the toughest humidity and keeps it healthy. Definitely go with the sedu!!

I have the Solia and it works extremely great for my shoulder-length black, straight hair. The sedu might be good too but for me I'm only going to use the Solia.

I have 1 3/4" but it's not better than the one u have, because u get hurt a lot, it's wide and u can't get some of the hair with it like upper the ear. I tried both but I like the thin better it takes time but if u want u can get both of them.

Is this product suitable for relaxed African American hair?
Hi, I am an African American teen with relaxed hair. I am looking for a flat iron that will limited the number of salon visits I have to have between relaxers. I was wondering does this product damage hair. I have thick long hair (just above that middle of my back). Also, should I get a 1" or a 1 1/2"? Last but not least, i have done my research and I am debating on either a Chi Turbo or the Sedu which is better in your opinions?

Use the Sedu 1" iron. I love this iron because you want a tool that you can manage to do the back of your hair easily without accidently pulling hair from other parts of your head. Use also a lower setting, start with 140-145 degrees for relaxed hair, and work in small sections like the professionals do, and you will definitely enjoy the results. Also don't forget the heat protectant. Don't skimp on the money for a good product for your hair. I protect my ends with a hair wax as well.

I have used the chi turbo recently and I would not recommend that flat iron for our type of hair. Even though it straightens out the roots, it still leaves the ends very frizzy.

I don't have either but my friend had the Chi Turbo which broke at least 4 times and she had to keep getting new ones. Just an FYI :]

I would not get the Chi Turbo. I also have relaxed hair. I bought the Chi Turbo for two reasons: 1) it had a temp control and 2) it was a Chi...which I heard was an awesome iron brand. The first time I used it was great. I had honestly never used anything that got my hair that straight and I didn't even have to use it on high. Well, after about two weeks of on and off use I noticed that my ends were starting to split really bad. Not only that, my hair was starting to feel like straw! Before my 30 days were up I returned it to the store for a refund. I'm sorry but I can not pay that much money for something that it burning my hair up. I am currently awaiting the arrival of my Sedu (so excited) and will post a review on that later. I personally think the chi turbo is too strong for chemically treated hair...relaxed, permed or colored. Best of luck to ya.

can I do spiral curls?
Im trying to decide which straightener to get. I want either the sedu or the corioliss. The corioliss can do waves and spiral curls also. Can the sedu do this?

I just bought the corioliss (digital, black in color). I used it twice in one day and dislike it for many reasons. All the bottons are on top so I could NOT hold it without hitting the bottons, I could feel the heat of the iron when holding the end close, I either burnt my fingers for the same reason and once I may not have had it closed enough and finally it said in the instruction not to use barefooted. WHAT? Well I totally forgot and used it a few hours later and after 20 min's of use my HEART WAS RACING & FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO POP OUT OF MY CHEST. Coinsidence or not? I'll be returning it ASAP.

Corilolis is a terrible flat Iron. It did not get hot enough and it ripped out pieces of my hair. Also the plates are not very smooth and it is a very heavy flat Iron. I hated mine and ended up just throwing out. My Solia is MUCH better.

Ordering a Sedu outside of the US
I live in Australia, and I'm planning to order a Sedu in a few days from this website. However as I was reading reviews and the Q&A, it got me wondering - does it make a difference what version of the Sedu I buy? Due to the different plugs?I'm terrified of getting this wonderful hair straightner only not being able to use it.Anyone.. ?

There is a European version available on this site... it may work better with your current electrical system. You can also try buying a universal converter, but make sure the converter will allow for the correct voltage. It can be a problem, otherwise.

To ANYONE out there who is buying a Sedu outside of the US ensure you order one that can hangle 220-240 volts. American voltage is DIFFERENT. Read this: "While it is easy to buy a plug adapter or a new "local" plug for your "foreign" appliances, in many cases this only solves half the problem, because it doesn't help with the possible voltage disparity. A 120-volt electrical appliance designed for use in North America or Japan will provide a nice fireworks display - complete with sparks and smoke - if plugged into a European/other socket." Buy one of the Sedu's with a plug type which handles 220-240 volts. (Australia = 240 volts). :-)

Sedu only for thick, curly hair?
My hair is NOT naturally curly or thick but it gets extremely frizzy with tons of fly aways. Everytime I have it done at the salon, my stylist always blow dries and then uses a straightener to smooth it down and make it shiny. I have never owned a straightener and I dont know waht kind she uses on me. Is the Sedu only for people with thick, curly hair or will it work to just smooth down and increase shine?

My hair is long, thick, and coarse but not curly. The Sedu really helps tame the frizzies, making my hair look smooth and have a little swing to it. Until last month, I'd always just used a curling iron, but then my new stylist used a flat iron on my hair for the first time, and it looked great. I was so happy with the results that I decided to get the 1 1/2" Sedu, which I just love. Very lightweight and easy to use. Also, a good friend of mine has thin, coarse hair (right at shoulder-length), and she uses a 1" flat iron to tame her frizzies.

Your problem is with your stylist technique in blow-drying your hair. Stop her from using high heat and pulling the hair tight. This causes your flyaways/breakage. You know need to reconstruct and moisterurize your hair. Folica has Redken Extreme Products now, so I suggest you start with that first as well as using a blow dryer with a pic/comb attachment warm temperature, protectant serum suitable for your hair texture

it helps alot, although if you live in a high humidity area, it wont do miracles...you have to spray a bit of hair spray after to repel humidity (humidity creates the puff)
