To get your hair straight you should:
1.) Do not worry about using straighteneing shampoos- they don't work. Use your normal shampoo and conditioner. Leave the conditioner in for at least 3 minutes. *To get your hair really silky you should use a leave-in- conditioner. I recommend Pantene. Cheap and works great. Oh yeah. :)
2.)Towel-dry your hair. Do not pull at your haar or shake the towel around. This only damages and breaks your hair. Try squeezing all the excess water out, then squeeze it with the towel.
3.) Immediately after towel-drying your hair you should start blow-drying. Use a rounded or flat brush. Pull your hair up towards the ceiling using the brush and hold the blow dryer close to your hair. Let your brush guide the blow dryer as you move upwards. FOLLOW THE BRUSH! *Do not leave any hair wet; this will only cause the wet strands of hair to wave, curl, etc.
4.) After your hair is completely dry, you can crank up the straightener. Use Folica's guide to determine how hot you should make your straightener. Use the flat iron (straightener) to make your hair straight. Take a small to medium peice of hair and press the flat iron against it. The first stroke should be about 3 inches from your roots. Get closer on the second stroke- if you feel like you need to go over the strand of hair a third time,do it! You know your hair- do what you feel will keep your hair the straightest. Repeat this throughout your whole head until the straightenest you crave is achieved.
5.) Rub some hair/heat creme to restore the nutrients your hair loses while straightening.
FINISHED.
*** See, easy!
Hope this helps!

As a hairdresser for over 10 years I am a tool junkie I try it all because the clients are all so different. In the black american community hairstyles are always changing and versatile. This iron can crimp, spiral curl, flip, and where ever your creative mind can take you in less time than its competitors, it will amaze you. On a healthy head of hair that can handle heat after using the proper professional maintenance (shampoo/conditioner) I advise KeraCare demineralizing treatment, leavein cond. + silken seal under the dryer for 15 mins, blow dry with an ionic dryer and ceramic paddle brush until water has evaporated, turn on your paul mitchell iron and the rest is up to creativity. The iron will perform with a standing ovation from the client. I mean literally you will have to pry the mirror out of their hands and their hair from touching it. Proper usage and correct product choices will not only please the client but increase business as you share product and tool knowledge. Have fun and let the Paul Mitchell Smoothing Iron command the stage!
