not for curly or really wavy hair

took 4 eva to heat up compared to the sedu or the solia. i have really curly hair and it made it feel coarse. it is bigger than the sedu so you cant do your roots that well. it looks weak and hollow. it just doesnt compare to the sedu, which is also cheaper. would work for straight hair with mild to moderate waves. i recommend the sedu, 1000x better.

I like the way it works on my hair, but I only had it a month before it broke. And many of my friends have the same problem. Either with the cord or the heating process.
DO NOT BUY

Whatever you do please do not buy this straightener... i read these reviews and you don't know the full story.. i bought this from the girl thats has done my hair for years.. i have really thick curly hair and it's middle of my back long... i have also colored it for many years.. and i no you are saying well thats not my hair at all and if your hair is like mine i'm sorry.. back to the point when i first bought the straightener i was soooo excited... my hair looked better than all the girls that were useing the chi... everyone wanted my straightener... i didn't use it all the time because i didn't want to damage my hair... about after i had it for 5 MONTHS at the most it broke... i would turn it on and it would not heat up... the light would not come on... if i wiggled the cord around it would work for a little while then it would stop again... normally it takes me at leat 45 minutes to perfectly straighten my hair... after it broke IT TOOK ME 2 HOURS AND IT STILL LOOKED LIKE CRAP... i would post pictuers but its completely broken now.. even if i stand on one leg and hold my tounge to the left and pray to god for it to work it won't... and after this i sent it back and they wouldn't give me my money back because it looked like i wrapped the cord around the straightener and it caused the wires to disconect and if i would have read the instructions and warenty details is says DO NOT WRAP CORD AROUND STRAIGHTENER... THATS BULLS**t I DID NOT wrap the freaking cord around the straightener... so beware please do not buy this straightener... it's not worth your time or money... Thanks

i just bought this flat iron a few days ago and it is absolutly amazing. i have curly hair and most flat irons do not work at all. this one straightened my hair in half the time that it normally took.
was perfect- until it stopped working!

This was given to me as a gift- I used it for a year, took very good care of it, not wrapping the cord around the flat iron, etc.
Recently, the light started blinking on and off, similar to what i have been reading on here... the heat stops and what usually takes me 10 min to iron my hair now takes me almost an hour because I have to fiddle with it until the light turns on, let it heat and iron as much and as fast as i can, then let it re-heat. URRRGHHHH!!!!
I have been trying to contact PM customer service. wish me luck!
Poor Quality

I've only had my iron for 14 months. For the price of the iron I'm amazed at the poor quality!! Within 10 months the ceramic was chipping off and now (just like many others have said) there is a short in my wire. It is impossible to keep it on and straighten my hair at the same time!!!!
My next flat iron will be a Chi! Many girls I know have had there Chi for 3+ yrs and No Problems!! Plus, they're cheaper!!

I have owned many different flat irons including the CHI and the FHI, I loved my CHI but after one year of use it broke, I wasn't very happy because CHI's are not cheap. So my hair stylist told me about this flat iron so I bought one and it is awesome it has lasted longer than the CHI and has done just as well on my hair as the CHI did for a better price... I highly recommend this product.
I have had four different kinds.

All the other ones of different brands lasted about a year I have now had this one for going on 4 years. Its the best of them all and lasts a while, as long as in is taken care of, like all fragile products. They dont get any better then this!
OMG!! LUV LUV LUV!!!

I was very happy with this smoothing iron. It worked wonderfully and made my hair straighter than I could even had imagined. I loved my hair and used the Paul Mitchell for about a year and a half but soon enough, the light started to flicker and then turn off. The heat would not stay either. I am very disappointed in what I believed was a wonderful product. Also that is a more valued straightner at only about half the price of this. Any tips?

I tried this flat iron back in 2006 and I hated it I thought it moved too slow and it didn't do anything for me but I decided to give it a second chance in 2007 and I loved it it does make your hair super shiny and super smooth and I've had it for almost a year now and it's still going strong for those that had problems with theirs make sure it's from china not korea I heard those are the bad ones I made sure mine was made in china before I bought it and I love it but then again not all hair is created equal but it works great on mine!
Absolutely Love It !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody has the right to their own opinions....I've had the Paul Micthell flat iron for over 2 years now and I've never had a problem with it at all...I've dropped it a few times here and there, but the main point about maintaining its life is the way you care for it...I have medium corse hair and all I do is split my hair into three big sections and it takes me 5 minutes or less to straighten my hair...Tip: Always unplug it after use..Never wrap the cords over the cords...and always clean it after each use to keep the blade clean...by doing this, you actually save yourself money so you don't have to spend another fortune on purchasing a replacement....
Same thing happend to me

I just read the last review about the flat iron and the same thing happen it mine. I got it for xmas of 06 and it was AMAZING for my out of control curly hair. Then a year later almost to the date, it stopped working, the light wont come on and it only will turn on if you hold it in a cretin spot.
Had a chi.... went to Paul Mitchell and here is why....

I originally owned a Chi after hearing such great things about it and being tired of cheap flat irons. After about 2 weeks of using the chi, my hair began to break off, and I now have little pieces of hair sticking out everywhere, after using for about 4-6 months. At times I would straighten my hair and I could feel it tugging on my hair when i would straighten it. I have been through Cosmetology school and try to use the best products and tools on my hair.
One day I went to a new hair stylist, and I warned her about how I have never had a hair stylist that was able to style my hair at the very end. SHE proved me wrong... and you want to know why.... The Paul Mitchell flat iron she used and the PM super skinny serum she used on it. Even with the highlights I had, my hair looked so good I could not believe it. I didn't have to straighten my hair for the next 2 days, it looked incredible.
So I went back and asked her about it again and she told me that she used to have a chi as well and it ripped out her hair. I went and bought the Paul Mitchell flat iron... and there is no comparison. PM is hands down the best flat iron I have ever used or owned.
I would totally recommend it. For those with long hair----stay away from the Chi, its not as good as it sounds, plus it does not have a heat adjustment like the PM!!! Hope this helps when making a decision. Spend the extra bucks and buy the PM.
Awesome! Then it broke.

It WAS the best straightener I've ever had, but about a year later the light wouldn't come on. I'd wiggle the cord and it would only come on in certain positions, and now its useless.
It is a great product, but it doesn't last.

I've owned my iron for 2 years and have been generally happy with the results until recently. It seems there is a problem with the swivel cord. Paul Mitchell will not replace the cord or give me the option of buying a replacement cord and the phone rep was rude. Is a $200 iron supposed to last only 2 years? I've learned my lesson, I won't buy anymore of their products.
IT IS THE BEST!

OK, HERE IS THE DEAL! I OWN A PAUL MITCHELL FOCUS SALON IN OKLAHOMA WHERE WE USED TO SELL CHI IRONS AND NOW EXCLUSIVELY SELL P.M. THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST AND I THINK HAVE AN OUTSTANDING WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD ONE COME BACK TO MY STORE AND JUST HANDED THEM A NEW ONE. PAUL MITCHELL HAS THE BEST 100% SATISFACTION THAN ANY OTHER COMPANY IN THIS MARKET IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, HAIR SPRAY, SHAMPOO, STYLING PRODUCTS, YOU JUST BRING IT BACK AND WE WILL SWITCH YOU OUT FOR THE PRODUCT THAT WORKS FOR YOU. PAUL MITCHELL IS BY FAR THE BEST COMPANY OUT THERE. SO IF YOU HAVE HAD PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT TRY BLAMING THE SALON OR STORE YOU BOUGHT IT FROM BECAUSE PAUL MICHELL WOULD ALWAYS STAND BEHIND EVERYTHING IT SELL!

I am African-American. I have medium/full relaxed hair. My hair is not coarse. My salon uses the PM iron and my hair always looks and feels great. I bought a PM two days ago and it has truly been a wonderful experience. My hair is soft and very straight. I have received alot of compliments and I am very happy with my purchase. If my PM broke tomorrow. I would go and buy a new one. Sistahs, if you want straight, shiny, healthy looking relaxed hair...this iron is for you...
