Using The Right Product and Gliding submitted by: Erica, Thu Nov 22 2007

The Maxiglide will do just what it was manufactured to do, which is to straighten the hair. If you're not getting the desired look, check the product(s) you are using or try switching up. Also, be sure to use a heat protectant. Also, if you have really thick hair, don't glide too much hair at one time. It will indeed snag and possibly pull your hair.
Prevent Water Reservoir Leaks submitted by: JoantheTeacher, Wed Dec 27 2006

When I first received my Maxiglide, I filled the entire reservoir with bottled water. This was a mistake as it caused it to leak while I ironed my hair. In order to prevent it from leaking, I recommend that you only fill the reservoir halfway with water. I also recommend that you iron your hair with the reservoir facing up as opposed to down in order to further prevent leakage. After following both of those tips myself, I experienced no more leaks on my Maxiglide whatsoever!

Before using it make sure watch the instructional dvd they will send you because everything is there from how to take care of your hair to how to clean your Maxiglide.
Make sure if you are not quite sure which heat temp you need make sure you start with max of 5 do not go over 5 it will ruin your hair and you'll just get disappointed... Use the Steam option it will make your hair softer and shinier afterwards and try using Frizz Ease Serum before drying your hair it helps alot....
Again NEVER NEVER abuse it just use it and enjoy the result.

I bought the Maxiglide straightener for my 10 year old daughter as an Easter present. She is bi-racial and has very THICK, curly, long hair-(down to her waist). The only time she has been able to have manageable, straight hair is when I take her to the hairdresser every week to 2 weeks and have it blow dryed straight and then straightened with a "hot comb". This is usually a 3 hour event and costs over $60 each time. I bought this straightener in hopes of not only saving time and money, but also being able to do this in our own home. I was truly skeptical. Her hair is SO thick. I have to say though, I am very happy with this product! The one biggest tip I have is that if your hair is not in good "condition", no matter what, you will not have "frizz free" hair. Make sure before you use the straightener your hair is CLEAN and if you have african american hair, make sure it conditioned well and has enough oil, (I use baby oil on my daughter's scalp). This will give it shine and protect the hair from the intense heat. I haven't tried any of the Maxius products for anti-frizz or straightening, so I can't comment on those, but DO plan on trying them. The steam is the best part of this product! TIPS for Long hair: Section small peices, (about 3 inches wide) Comb out with wide toothed comb Start in the middle of the section (not at the root yet) USE Steam as you go, press and release several times and "glide" slowly Use a burst of steam on the very end and flip the straightener up (like you are doing a flip) Then start at the root and do the same as above all the way to the end(DO NOT use steam near the scalp) I have never used a chemical relaxer on my daughter's hair as I am afraid of damage as well as also loving her curls. For manageabilities sake though, I have to say I "ALMOST" did have it chemically straightened. With this product I didn't have to, and hopefully this tip will encourage others to do the same. One last tip, I wash, condition my daughters hair, then comb through in sections as well as put baby oil on her scalp (on the parts and then comb through with a wide toothed comb). I then braid each part and leave it alone for at least a day to dry. The next day I remove each braid one at a time and straighten each section by section....GOOD LUCK!!!

I found that if your going outside and it's humid, it's better to use the flat plate then the one with the pins. It helps keep your hair smooth without too much frizz.

To Anyone who is SQUEEZING the maxiglide or pulling down too hard- it will not work, and the dvd and the directions tell you not to. The pins are there to guide your hair. If you squeeze the plates together you WILL pull out your hair.
