I am just thrilled and so glad that I purchased this straightner. At first I just didn't think that anything would work on my thick locks of curls. Maxiglide has changed my outlook on life. I have always wanted to be able to have straight hair and I LOVE IT! I would replace my maxiglide bi-yearly if necessary, but I really don't think it is going to be an issue. My daughter and I both use the same Iron daily and we are approaching our 9th month.

I've owned a few flat iron over the years with Hot Tools being my first and then a Chi Turbo. The Chi did not compare to the Hot Tools flat iron and I wanted to kick myself for not bucking up sooner to buy a better flat iron. The ceramic coated plates on the Hot Tools flat iron over a couple of years had fried my hair and especially my ends. It was at that time I finally understood the difference between ceramic coated and ceramic infused infrared heat. After 3 years my Chi quit working so I was forced to buy a new flat iron. Since I bought my Chi, technology has changed quit a bit, so I wanted to see if I could purchase a better flat iron and spend less than I did for my Chi.
I saw the infomercial for the Maxiglide and was amazed. I did a lot of research on the internet and everyone seemed happy with the performance of the Maxiglide. So I printed out a 20% off coupon and went to Ulta to purchase mine.
The first time, I was a bit disappointed since I didn't get the slick shiny hair I was expecting. I used Lanza Straight-Line thermal defense but the Maxiglide did not glide through my hair. I went back to Ulta and purchased Biosilk Silk Therapy and decided to give the Maxiglide another try. Wow! I got the slick shiny pin straight hair I was hoping for.
I know a lot of people have complained about the pulling of hair and I was expecting to experience that too. Use of a normal flat iron with no pins has always caused a great deal of hair loss for me on a daily basis. So much so, that I'm surprised I'm not bald after all these years. But I read and reread the directions to the Maxiglide and took to heart not to apply pressure to the plates when pulling the Maxiglide through your hair. My hair is extremely course and curly so even running a wide tooth comb through my hair still pulls out a ton of hair. But when I ran the Maxiglide through, I did not get the pulling I expected after reading the complaints by other users. From time to time I do feel the pulling but I realize that it's me applying to much pressure so I back off and my hair glides through the pins with no hair loss.
The one thing I do find difficult to do, is to run the Maxiglide through my hair slow, as the directions state. I'm so afraid of heat damage that I want to run the Maxiglide through faster than what the directions indicate. When I don't I have to rerun the Maxiglide a second time. When I take the time as directed, I do get the pin straight hair with one run through. But it's a work in progress for me.... I also noticed the slower I run the Maxiglide through my hair, my hair seems to more easily glide through the pins. So if you do feel any pulling, ease up on the pressure and take it slower. Just make sure you're using a good thermal protector on your hair.
Other complaints I've read have been the weight. I was a bit surprised for how heavy it is compared to other flat irons, but it's no big deal and you get used to it almost immediately.
I'm a tough critic, but I would rate this iron 4.5 stars out of 5. I'm concerned about the cord breaking as I've read in other reviews and when you place the iron on the counter, it always seems to want to fall on it's side so I have to pay careful attention since I'm afraid of the iron breaking should it fall off the counter (which I've also read). I think with the 20% off coupon and the end price of $63, the Maxiglide is a great buy and well worth the money!
no bs..

Im a 17 year old african american mixed with native american with a fairly good grade of hair to be black and i love the maxiglide. I have naturally curly hair, and when i wash it the curls are really tight, and it makes my hair look shorter than what it is, but the maxiglide definitly does what it says it will do. Usually when i do my hair myself it doesnt come out the way i want it..at all. It would always be frizzy, and really..NOT STRAIGHT! So when my birthday rolled aorund [2 weeks ago] the first thing to come to mind was to get a maxiglide, and I must admit it's the best thing a girl could get. [for her hair anyway] I cant stop touching it. It's so soft, and my hair doesnt smell or feel fried. I strongly suggest you get one..unless u have naturally straight hair..it wont work then. My friend was kind of upset..opps!!
u have to see it.. to believe it

Very good product and it straightens your hair dead straight however be warned that is pulls out alot of hair and is NOT for people with damaged hair as it will further damage the hair with all the pulling.

THE STRAIGTHNER PULLED OUT MY HAIR AND DIDN'T STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR I SEEN IT ON TV THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT IT BUT I GUESS YOU HAVE TO BUY THE SHAMPOOS OILS AND ALL THE OTHER STUFF THAT COMES WITH TO ACTUALLY WORK I WANT A STRAIGHTENER TO STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR BY ITSELF NOT BY PUTTING A BUNCH OF STUFF IN IT TO HAVE TO WORK RIGHT. IF THAT'S WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR THIS ISN'T THE PRODUCT YOU WANT MY CHEAP STRAIGHTENER FROM WLAMART (REVLON) WORKED BETTER THAN IT.

Dont waste your money on this thing!!!! It sucks!! I bought this and i only had it for almost a week, and one day, i put it on for it to heat up...and then i finally went to go do my hair (5MIN.), and the removable plate part melted to the straightener, so i could not switch to the flat one when i wanted to, and it dose not do the job well either!...DO NOT BUY THE MAXIGLIDE!!!

I bought two of these and bot times the temperature dial broke. I would NOT recommend this product. I would put the 79.95 to better use and buy a different brand. DO NOT purchase this item. They don't last long, only about 10 to 12 months and they break.

I love this straightener....I bought a second one for back up so that I won't be without. This truly gets your hair straight. My first one was a gift....because I would not have spent that much money on a straightener....I spend my money wisely and this is truly and investment for me....My daughter, sister and nieces use this as well....If you take your time and use it correctly you will get the best results....and the steamer comes in handy for those curls that just don't want to straighen....you will not be dissappointed.

I had to write another review for the Maxiglide. This is really really a big peice of crap. It doesnt even straighten my hair properly. Also it does burn your scalp and whats worse is that itll leave those nasty scab lines. It happend to me right on my forhead while I was trying to straighten my bangs... yeah not soo attractive. Another thing that really makes me mad is that it take FOREVER to get hot. I have to set like 5-8 minutes out everytime I use it just to get it hot. Also I have curly coarse hair but it takes sooo long to straighten it. And I have to pass the iron really slow in my hair just so that it could somewhat straighten it.And whats worse is that it doesnt last at all! I get so jealous when I see my friend (she uses a CHI) has prefectly straight hair that last ALL WEEK and mine wont even last ten minutes. And its true it really does yank waay to many hairs out of your head. And the final product is sooo disappointing because my hair isnt movable... it just feels like dry straw. And I have to use a ton of different products to somewhat tame my hair... All and all this is the worst investment Ive ever made. It really really sucks! I plan to just give this to my mom and ask her to buy me a Sedu.... just a really horrible product so think twice before purchasing.
Hopeful
