Product Rating: 5 Best Flat Iron for CURLY/WAVY hair
Reviewer: San Fran_Mama from San Francisco, CA  Thu Mar 05 2009

I have wavy, very thick hair. Normal flat irons take over 30 minutes to make my hair silky straight. If you don't use the maxi glide correctly I can see how it wouldn't work. I don't use the plates with the pins. The flat plates work wonders and ... I can flat iron my hair at night and not need to touch it up the next morning. I use the steam burst for the ends and any unruly waves. The best thing about Maxi Glide ... you can buy replacement plates instead of buying a completely new flat iron. I recommend this for anyone who has curly/wavy - ethnic hair.

Product Rating: 5 perfectly flat, straight, fast and totally easy!!
Reviewer: ROGER QUINTON from Savannah, Ga.  Wed Feb 25 2009

My Daughter has the thickest and curliest hair that anyone in the world has ever had!! and then after her Cancer and her treatments, it came back in twice as thick and 10,000 times curlier, it's so bad an extra large hair band won't go around it once!!!! Anyways, with a little patience and in about 30 minutes she gets the flattest, straightest, and most smooth and shiny hair in the world!! It's totally awesome!! Nothing and I do mean NOTHING in the world has ever been able to get even 10 strands straight, let alone her entire head, and do it so quickly!! Best money spent, and best results, if you have hard to handle, and thick fat wavy and kinky hair, this is the best thing that you'll ever in your life own!! I can guarantee that you'll be satisfied, if you follow the super simple instructions, it works even better than it shows!! IT TRULY IS TOTALLY AWESOME!! BEST Money ever spent!! You WON'T regret it!!

Product Rating: 3 Units stop working
Reviewer: Elizabeth from Georgia  Thu Feb 19 2009

I have owned 3 Maxi-glides and have always had good results with the performance. The other people who complain about burning their hair probably have the heating element set too high. Those who complain that the units are not straightening their hair, are obviously not partitioning off the sections to get the best results. My hair has always come out great. My only problem with this unit is that one side ceases to heat up after using it for a time. The last unit that I got stopped working properly 5 days ago and the blue light just continues to blink, as one side does not heat up. I agree that the cost of this unit is horrible compared to the reliability of it. This company needs to guarantee their units for longer than just one year. This last unit that I own only lasted 18 months.

Product Rating: 5 The only straightener I would EVER USE!!
Reviewer: Ali from Salisbury, NC  Thu Feb 12 2009

This straightener is awesome! I can't believe people are saying it is damaging their hair! I have been using it for 2 years and my hair stylist can't believe what a great job it does and she says I have perfect hair - no split ends or damage of any kind. It's the only straightener I've ever used that works this well and fast - and I have very thick, curly hair. It takes some getting used to - how much pressure to apply (as you will rip out your hair if you're smashing it together), how to use the steam without getting burned (of course steam will burn you if you're not being careful) and when and how much steam to use (which does a great job relaxing the hair). I am just so thrilled with this product - I straighten my hair EVERY day with it. So I have used it at least 700 times and have absolutely no damage whatsoever. And mine doesn't stink either. I am not sure what that's about - are you using distilled water in it (tap water can have things in it that aren't good to run thru the straightener). I don't think I could live without the MaxiGlide now that I've had one (it would be really hard)!!

Product Rating: 4 Works very well
Reviewer: Becky   Fri Feb 06 2009

I have had my maxiglide for over three yrs now and it still works great. Any flat iron is going to damage your hair and the maxi is no exception. However, it gets my wavy hair pin straight. I would recommend not using the steam or putting it on the highest setting. i try not to straighten my hair more than once a week so my hair stays somewhat healthy. So if your thinking about the maxiglide go for it. I works great but just be sure to use it in moderation.

Product Rating: 5 Wonderful
Reviewer: Jamie from KY  Mon Jan 05 2009

I have thick naturaly curly hair and have tried to many irons. I can't even count them all. All of them by the end of the day my hair was so fizzy it looked terrible. With this one though I can actually skip using a few days and my hair still stays straight. It leaves my hair soft, beautiful, and I actually get complements, something I never got before both curly or with other flat irons.

Product Rating: 2 It's not as great as it seems
Reviewer: Sarah   Thu Jan 01 2009

I bought the maxiglide 2 years ago and at first I was amazed with how healthy and nice my hair looked. I have thick wavy/curly hair of egyptian decent. After using the maxiglide a second time in my closed room, my mom walked in to notice nothing but a translucent layer of smoke that the straightener has been giving off. I have a long hair, about down to the middle of my back and now the ends are FULL on split ends and BREAKING HAIR! it already broke one and i got another one and now it just doesnt straighten well. My hair is poofy and extremely frizzy. Plus, the straightener has a hard time keeping up to the temperature its set at. I'll be straightening my hair and and i'll hear this sizzling noise and the blue light will be flashing, indicating that its not at the desired temperature yet. Extremely disappointed with it. Would NEVER recomment it to ANYONE unless you want to throw away your money.

Product Rating: 1 Bad Texture, Pulls Hair
Reviewer: Fran from Illinois  Tue Dec 30 2008

I tried this based on recommendations for thick, curly, coarse hair. This was to replace 5 year old Jilbere that I loved but broke.
The plate with teeth pulled my hair. I tried it with only the flat plates. They (obviously) didn't pull, but they didn't leave my hair feeling very good either.
The iron "straightens" OK, but my hair didn't stay straight, and it felt - and looked - frizzy!
I tried it with the sample products that came with the iron, and with my normal products.
I ended up returning it, and got the FHI brand my stylist uses - I know that works.

Product Rating: 3 Not keeping the new Maxiglide MP
Reviewer: Musicachic from Lansing, MI  Mon Dec 29 2008

So I tried the new smaller Maxiglide. It was nice to have a smaller size iron made by them, but it was still clunky compared to other irons. I like the steam and my hair felt moist at the ends. But the pin plate was scary. I guess it was not completely excessive hair coming out, but it was enough to make me uncomfortable. I detangled my hair first (african american relaxed hair) and made sure I didn't clamp the iron down too hard, but still it didn't smoothly go through my hair. It's a nice flat iron for someone with already pretty straight hair that just wants it smoother and flatter. Other folks... I would use caution. I like the idea of steam, but I will try it with a different iron.

Product Rating: 5 The best ever!!
Reviewer: E. Rivera from Newport News, VA  Mon Dec 29 2008

I have various flat irons to include the Chi, biosilk and hot tools spending so much money in my search for the the best straitening machine. Maxi glide is by far the very best and I have acheived the straightest and shiniest hair ever. Next best thing to going to the salon!! If you learn how to use and take care of your hair by buying the appropiate hair products to avoid heat damage your hair will be he silkiest and straitest ever. Enjoy

Product Rating: 4 So far so good and Happy!
Reviewer: Kuhrayz from Miami  Sun Dec 28 2008

I have been reading the product reviews on the Maxiglide for about 2 years now. I have always wanted to purchase once based upon the infomercial and internet reviews. Like MANY others, I was a skeptic. I am bi-racial, with very curly hair, my front hairline and the crown having the tighter, kinkiest curls. Fast forward a couple of years, I turn on the tv and see a new informercial for Maxiglade XP. Looked pretty much the same but there was something new I wasn't sure about...anyway...I ended up purchasing the Maxiglide XP for under $100 complete with instructional DVD, product, extra plate and detangling brush.

The XP now has a swivel cord and there is no blinking led light (it blinks and remains steady once it is hot)and I noticed no leakage. Perhaps, these are some of the improvements made, no thanks to our prodict reviews.

I have had it for 4 days now and I have done my hair once complete and touched it up last night...and did my friends hair today. We live in Miami and it was in the low 80's today with a bit of humidity. I love it. My hair is very soft...not so shiney but then again I have curly hair. Curly hair is naturally dry.

I think that there will be a lolt of mixed feelings on this product. You really do need to follow the instructional DVD, do small sections...detangle your hair first...the glide is not supposed to comb your hair. Also make sure to protect your hair from the elements....you should not treat your hair any different than you normally would.

Bottom line is that I love this device and am excited to see its functionality over the months to see if mine breaks or stopes working as others' have that I have read.

I would say that if you can afford to part with the money, it is worth it. Just follow the instructions and take the time to do it the right way, have a little patience the first time.

Only took me 4o minutes. I have used Chi, Wigo, Revlon and all of them made me look like a chia pet!

Product Rating: 5 L O V E IT !!
Reviewer: Robin from Georgia  Thu Dec 18 2008

Ok ....I heard about this maxiglide and I was like yeah I don't beleive it does that great. Well my husband got it for me for Christmas and my friend and I used it... She has very thick and curly hair and she pulled it through once and it was all straight and shiny. When it usually takes 1 hr with another straightener it only took about 10-15 mins with the maxiglide. My hair is thick also but I have a short haircut, it only took about 5 mins to do mine it is prefect!

Product Rating: 1 what the heck!
Reviewer: Sara from Reston, VA  Fri Dec 05 2008

this is one of the cheapest flat irons i've ever seen in my life....OMG! 1. DOoesn't do an extreme great job on your hair. 2. leave your hair with a freezy look 3. its too bulky and heavy 3. i want to know since when using steamed water on your hair leave it free out damage such as breakage & split ends........!? don't recomend this item unless you have long corse/curly hair. then it might work well for you b/c it would brushes your hair wile straightening it.

Product Rating: 5 Best Iron I have used so far
Reviewer: Tee from NYC orig frm TX  Thu Dec 04 2008

I belong to several hair forums and this product was recommended so I looked into it. I have seen several realtime reviews on youtube and decided to get it myself.I love it! I have natural 4a african american hair and let me tell you it got it straight and I didn't blow dry it straight first I admit I may have lost less hair if I did blow it straight first, but I was excited and had to try it out. It is soft still and the steam actually serves a good purpose I thought it would revert my hair and it didn't it helped to straighten it. I really think the word GLIDE had been over looked by many review people cause you can glide it and it straightens no real need to squeeze unless you wanna lose hair. Here is the youtube vid that I made helped me decide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3tec_9WnqQ.I want to add that I love the fact that you can get it sooooo close to your scalp and it does not burn. Ok that is my review.

Product Rating: 1 The worst ever!!!
Reviewer: faith crys from texas  Tue Dec 02 2008

I got this in hope of getting my little girl the straight hair she wanted but instead her hopes of having straight her went crashing to the floor when she saw that her curly hair ended up being just a big poofball. I don't recommend this product to anybody i recommend the chi or solia so far they are the best!

Product Rating: 5 Super Straightening Iron
Reviewer: Shirley M. Clark from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada  Tue Dec 02 2008

I bought my iron a year ago to use on my show dog with long hair. I have been using it for a year now, and wouldn't trade it for anything. The steamer works perfectly, the little 'teeth' line up the hair for a smoother finish, and it heats quickly. It may have been designed for people, but it is a great grooming tool for my showdogs. The value pack has been a great bonus, providing a bag to store several grooming tools, and I love the hairbrush that was included. I kept that for myself.

Product Rating: 5 Bar Far the best !!!!
Reviewer: MAnda from Toronto , Ontario  Tue Nov 25 2008

I originally got this straightener for christmas one year and i first i didnt like it becuase the pins pulled my hair alot but then i actually watched the dvd and realized you didnt have to put pressure on it . after that if was fine and i love it i have very coarse multi racial hair and its thick and usually takes along time with the maxiglide i get it done in like 10 minutes because you only have to go over it once . than my dad broke it by stepping on it so i ordered a new one from folica it came quickly and its now the only straightener i will use the other one make ur hair look bushy and dry but maxi glides perfect.

7. it started smelling like it was going to catch on fire which in turn made my hair smell horrible
8.it broke the other day and i had to go back to my cheapo walmart clearance $14 straightener AND IT WORKED BETTER !!!

10.even the most mousterizing shampoo and products WILL NOT HELP THE DAMAGE IT WILL DO !!
11. it pulls your hair out and it gets stuck in those pin things and needs to be cleaned every single tim you use it cause the steam kills all the oils in your hair and guess where they end up ?! In the plates !

4.THE STEAM CHAMBER LEAKS all over my hair and then i have to re do most of it.

LIKES
