Yes, please pay attention to the reviews. I didn't and now I'm returning it. Yes, it gets hot and all that but it's heavy, not so pleasant to use, the frizz is still there. You might as well buy a cheaper one. I think the little teeth are the worst feature because they pull out your hair. It's an okay product, nothing you couldn't find elsewhere for cheaper. It doesn't style either. I think if you're going to be paying so much for one item it should do more then, semi-straighten your hair. If that is all you are looking for then I suppose its okay. Some advice with it is to prep your hair ahead of time and brush and comb through it thoroughly if you don't want to end up bald.

Product Rating: 4 Good Product; Just Take Your Time With It

I am African American & Puerto Rican, with primarily kinky/wavy hair (think Rudy Huxtable's hair mixed with Kelis's old hairstyle). My hair is THICK, gets dry very fast, and requires alot of moisturizers; all people with African textured hair needs moisture. I am in the process of going natural (no longer wanting or needing a hair relaxer!) and thought to buy Maxiglide to keep my roots straight until my natural hair comes in completely.

This product works well if you take your time with it, and have someone assist you. If you don't then be prepared for your arms to get tired, because it's not that light of a product. Anyway, I recommend that you use a small amount of moisturizer at the roots, but not too much or else your hair will get flat..we need that sexy bounce ladies! So, part your hair, and MAKE SURE YOU CAREFULLY..CAREFULLY, COMB OUT YOUR WAVES/KINKS (which are tight curls, not nappy hair, as society would like us all to believe). The Maxiglide will be able to glide better. Go over each part two or three times, depending upon how straight you want it.

Afterwards spritz with an oil sheen (not too much!!), and either wrap your hair (for a more straight look without too much bounce) or set it in rollers (for a full Beyonce bounce). Either way, if it works on my hair, it can work on almost anyone's. JUST DONT RUSH, AND PART YOUR HAIR IN SMALL SECTIONS. And always comb out your hair WELL. Otherwise, you will be disappointed.

I have very curly hair, (I am white). I have used mannnny other straightening irons in the past, and I have to say that this one is pretty good. It does really tug at your hair, pulling it thru the pins, which was uncomfortable for me at first, but I am used to it now. I do appreciate that a flat plate was included in the package I bought, it really comes in handy for very frizzy patches of hair where the pins do not do such a great job.

The Maxiglide is a GREAT product, I have never, ever found something like it! I was so amazed at the final result of it when I was finished doing my hair!! My hair had NEVER and I mean NEVER, EVER been this smooth! And I can style it to my liking. It's so easy to use, once you get the hang of it you will be able to do it in the morning in just like-10 minutes!! I'm serious!

I am so happy with my Maxiglide, I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. I really encourage everyone with frizzy and unmanageable hair to buy this wonderful product, forget any bad irons that just literally fry your hair, this steam technology hair iron moistens your hair, I love it I just love it.

Product Rating: 2 good product, bad handling
Reviewer: Kevin   Tue Sep 05 2006

I bought this straightener for my girlfriend and when it arrived at her house, she told me that the package was damaged and the instructional DVD that came with it was also damaged (beyond use, in fact). The actual straightener is functional, apparently. I don't know where the handling miscare took place, but it was definitely not a pleasant transaction.

As for product performance, the maxiglide works quite well. Not as spectacularly as on the infomercials, but with a little work it produces nice, straight hair that resists frizzing for quite some time.

Pros: It does what it says-leaves your hair straight and silky

Cons: The teeth will break your hair off regardless of how gentle you are while straightening.
Your hair will have a "smokey" odor even after you wash it, regardless of the setting you used.

When I first saw this product I knew I had to have it. A co-worker has small curls and she couldn't find an iron to flat out her curls. I told her about the Maxiglide, she tried it and it has saved her $$$. Now she takes 30-45 minutes to straighten then 2-3 hours.

I bought mine 2 years ago and I use it almost daily. I love it. Plus, their customer service is excellent. Some infommercials sell rip offs but this one pays off.

Reviewer: Staci   Thu Aug 24 2006

I bought the Maxiglide about 2 years ago. At first I was in love with it, after all the headache of trying to achieve the perfectly straight look with other products, I found that the Maxiglide was the best thing that I had ever tried. In the beginning it left my usually course hair shiny straight and smooth but after about a year of regular use the ceramic plate started to wear down and it left my hair looking dull and dry. Also, the steam burst mechanism no longer works and the iron does not heat properly. After spending a 100.00 on this product I was a little disappointed that it only lasted 2 years. I think I am going to try the Sedu after reading the amazing reviews!

This is the best straightening iron I have ever purchased. What use to take me 45 minutes, now takes ten minutes. It leaves your hair shiny and smooth. Absolutely no frizzies!!! I recommend this product to all my curly haired friends.

Reviewer: sasha from los angeles, ca  Thu Aug 24 2006

Still better than average. But for the price, I rate it as average. All African American women with unrelaxed hair know how virtually impossible it is to straighten our hair and make it last without the use of chemicals and excessive heat. The Maxiglide is the only plug in that's gotten my hair straight. Ever! The steam adds nice shine and moisture.

Cons: Curly hair reverts back quickly, burning smell after using it a while, coating comes off plates with extended use and hair gets caught/broken in the teeth unless your hair is really straight already.

I recently got a Sedu and OMG! I have retired my Maxiglide forever!

Steam is a no-no for the hair. The best product to use is a ceramic flat iron 400 degrees or more. Hair stays straight no matter what, no need to go to the salon anymore. Stick with the ceramic, high heat is always the key.

my mother ordered it for me. I have frizzy hair and its very unruly! At first it seems like its doing the trick, but beware the humid days!! My hair looks like a big monster on top of my head!! Its likeit straightens at first but any humidity ruins the effects, plus I feel my hair looks dry, even more dry than before?DONT BUY IT, ITS A WAIST OF MONEY!!

Product Rating: 3 nice product, not amazing
Reviewer: Joanna S. from Chi, Illinois  Sat Aug 19 2006

I got the maxiglide for christmas of 06. I am so happy that I bought my maxi glide. I have extremely strange hair..I can't even say that it's curly, because it's more like squiggly and unruly. The maxiglide works fairly well, and it is the best I have found so far.

maxiglide positive points:
leaves shine
doesn't make your hair smell burnt
leaves your hair soft
the steam is an effective feature not found on many other straighteners.

maxiglide negative points:
your hair won't stay as straight as when you first straighten it. I find that I have to do numerous "run-overs" (as i call them) before I leave the house, and I usually end up tying my hair up by the end of the day because it gets poofier than i would like.

After a while, the iron starts to smell like burnt hair during the process due to hair caught in the needles which is hard to get out.

The iron seems to decline in heat as you straighten your hair.

---Overall---not a miracle product or as amazing as the infomercial makes it look--but highly effective and the best i've come across so far. (I am soon to try the CHI straightener since a few friends of mine are RAVING about it. so look into that if you wish.)

Product Rating: 2 Attention: Au Natural Sistah's
Reviewer: LaToya from Connecticut  Wed Aug 16 2006

I have been au natural for three years. In the past I pressed my hair to get that straight sleek look, but I soon grew tired of pressing my hair, e.g. the smell, too much heat, time consuming. I opted to get a maxiglide after watching the infomercials thinking that this would cut the time I used to press my hair in half and cause less damage. Instead I got horrible results. I got it on Tuesday and am returning it on Wednesday. It gave my hair a nice shine, but it did not keep it straight. I flat ironed it and went to the mall and by the time I left the mall I had a blowout. It was not a humid day. Moreover, the maxiglide is large so it is difficult to straighten the roots. The miniglide makes it easy to get to the roots and to the edges, but it does not keep them straight. Until I find a good flat iron, I will go back to pressing when I'm not wearing it natural. If anyone has any suggestions about what I should purchase next, I would love to hear your recommendations.

Thanks and save your money and time on something other than a maxiglide.

Reviewer: Erika from New York  Tue Aug 15 2006

So as for the rest... ive seen the infomercial and this straightener looked like it worked so good so i had to have it. i had finally got it hoping it would work as expected but it didnt. i will say that my hair wasnt staticy or frizzy at all but it wasnt straight either. now i use my conair flat iron first because it works good but then i use my maxiglide so that my hair isnt frizzy at all. my opinion is that this particular straightener is for use on frizzy hair, not curly or wavy!!! Dont buy this product!!! and as the others said its going to break... i havent had mine very long and i never use it so hopefully it will last at least until i move out of the house so that my dad dosnt get mad that he bought me a straightener that sucks for so much money. i could've bought a better one at wal-mart.

Product Rating: 5 i <3 it!!!!!!!
Reviewer: Jenny from Washington  Sat Aug 12 2006

ya it works really well. even though i had to get 3. it work sooo good. and if it breaks within a year u can still get a new one. and every ones complaing about it pulling out hair and making it frizzy. well switch the plate with the pins for the flat one. it will work much better. but im thinking about trying a different one. but still GREAT!!
