A few years ago, I seen the commerial with this and thought like most that it wasn't real, but about 3 months ago...I finally got feed up with all the flat irons that weren't doing the job to straighten my hair. See I'm Black, White, and Native American...so my hair is curl but the only time that I get it real straight is when I go to the salon. Now that I've bought the Maxiglide...I don't have to go to the salon to get my hair as straight as they can do in the salon. So, I would recommend this product to everyone who wants a real product that will get the job done.

I had my Maxi Glide for almost 3 years & it broke 2 nights ago. I immediately knew what I had to do...get online & order another one. I have a mix of thick, kinky, curly, long hair & there is no other product on the market that has EVER straightened my hair the way the Maxi Glide does!

I don't understand why so many people have the problem of the product pulling their hair. I have to wonder if it's because they are under the impression that because the item has "teeth" that it will detangle the hair as they go - this is NOT the case. You have to brush/comb out your hair prior to straightening it or you will definitely have some major hair pulling going on.

The only down side I find in the Maxi Glide is the weight of it. Since my hair is so long (about waist length) it can be a bit burdensome on my arms to hold it for the amount of time it takes to finish all my hair (30-45 minutes). I really would give this product a 4 1/2 star rating, but that wasn't an option.

Regardless, I love this product & would recommend it to anyone.

I originally bought this flat iron in July of 2005 and it worked miracles not only my hair, but everybodys (my mom, my sisters, my brothers and my cousins) hair that I did. The only reason why I am buying a new flat iron is because my sister dropped it and it cracked in December of 2006 and it just recently stopped working!!!!! My hair is naturally curly (like really tight spiral curls) and whenever I used it my hair looked as if I used a chemical to straighten it.

Product Rating: 2 Damages hair and breaks after a year
Reviewer: Eleni from New York  Tue Sep 16 2008

I recommended this product to my friends in the beginning, but then realized how much damage it was doing and I got rid of it. I had it for about a year and so did my friend, her's broke right after a year..mine was still good, but my hair was dry and damaged. It's a lot easier to use, since it already has the teeth and combs the hair for you, but that also means it breaks in it the process! I now use the Sedu and my hair comes out very shiny and healthy.

Back in April I put in a order for the maxiglide straightner and got it really quick after putting in a order. The first time I used it i wasnt all too satisfied with the product because then it didnt do what it claimed to do on tv. the next time i used it i put it all the way on 10 and my hair looked amazing but now when ever i use the straightner i have to go over my hair like 3 times. it isnt working good anymore and i would NOT reccomend this proud to anyone because of it.

Product Rating: 5 FREAKING AMAZING!!!
Reviewer: babycakes<3 from NEW YORK BABYYYY  Tue Sep 09 2008

My hair is partially curly and partially wavy/frizzy, so it's really hard to get it straight and nice, and smooth and shiny. I used all kinds of products, i went and had it chemically treated and everything. And nothing worked. I even used the house iron, as in the iron you use to iron clothes, yeah...because NOTHING else worked, and everything was just damaging my hair. I used to have gorgeous, thick, full, long hair, and after i turned 16, it went downhill because of all the nonsense i did to it.

I got it when it first came out, my mother saw it on HSN. She was tired of watching me go through so much to get my hair at least decent, and to have so many worthless products that didnt even work in the end, so she went and bought it. Of course it was ridiculous expensive, and i was annoyed that she spent so much on a flat iron, which by the way, came with the iron itself, and not this whole package that this site is offering, no it was just an iron, NO replacement plates, no DVD, no nothing.

Anyway, i was pretty skeptical about using it because of the steam being directly on top of my hair, in addition to the heat from the ceramic plates, but after about ten minutes of styling my hair, i realized HOLY COW! this works, and it took an hour and a half job, and cut it down to 10-15 minutes at most. I was so impressed. Its been three years now, i believe, that i've had it, it's been through so much, through traveling, through me throwing it in the drawer when in a rush, and me coiling the wire around the base to leave more room in the drawer. And it still held up through all that abuse...that is until now, that i'm buying a new one lol.

I forgot the name though, so i've been searching EVERYWHERE for it, because once you use it, i swear you never go back, thankfully i figured out the techniques on my own, and anything and everything i do, works out beautifully. And i read another review saying that her hair grew, and now that i think about it, i think mine did too, because after i damaged my hair from all those other things, i had it at shoulder length, at the longest, it went from my waist to shoulder in about 2 yrs, and i was devastated. But now i'm trying to grow it back to my waist, and it's about 10 inches or more from my shoulders because it hangs over my breasts, and when i bend down it will come under my arms, so i'll pull on it by accident as i'm moving or picking up things. So honestly, if you're contemplating buying it, it was the best thing i've ever used. And it doesnt make your hair SUPER STRAIGHT if you dont want it to, which is great, because it can go either way, it can be PIN STRAIGHT or you can style it so it'll curve at the bottom, or flair out, or whatever you want. Its so versatile, i love it. So def. buy it, and if you dont like it, then you probably just dont know how to use it.

Product Rating: 5 I really like the Maxiglide
Reviewer: Eunice from Queens, New York  Wed Sep 03 2008

I have kinky tight curly hair and I have been doing my hair myself for years. I was working with curlers and a blow dryer for over a decade and straightened my hair so well that I fooled hairstylist into thinking my hair was straight not kinky tight fuzzy curls. I was really impressed with the Maxiglide XP my hair is beautifully straight. I did not have to use a blow dryer or curlers or anything else.It was a humid hot day today and my hair was still super straight at the end of the day.

Product Rating: 2 It Does Work But...

I have had this straightener for about a year and I am on Folica to find something new.

You do have to be careful otherwise the little pins will rip your hair right out but the biggest problem for me was overall quality. In about six months the ceramic coating was coming off the plates and now the plates are actually rusting because of it's steaming system.

Product Rating: 5 WHAT MORE COULD A GIRL ASK FOR?
Reviewer: Gwendolyn from Charlotte, NC  Sat Aug 30 2008

I just ordered the Maxiglide a few days ago; I received it yesterday. Since I was 100% new to it I tried it on heat setting 2 and I didn't see much of a result. But, I wanted to test out the temperatures to see which one was right and safe for my hair. I tried it again today on heat setting 4 for my thick hair. I was so surprised at the results. I am an African American female with the kinky, thick, nappy hair that gets to the point where you can't even get a comb through it after it has been washed and dried and currently it is rebuilding from a lot of damage due to chemical relaxers and color. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE MAXIGLIDE RIPPING PEOPLE'S HAIR OUT. The maxiglide was nothing but easy to use and gentle on my hair; I could count the few strands of hair that came out with the glides. I watched the dvd and followed the directions, and if you do that you will never go back to an ordinary flat iron again. Previously, I had been using a ceramic flat iron from Hot Tools and it worked alright but, I had to add a lot of grease and oils to my hair to get the healthy shiny look. However, with Maxiglide I just added a small amount of carrot oil and I glided away. I had body and bounce when I had finished and my hair felt soft and smooth at the root just like if I had a relaxer but, I don't. I've been all natural for over a year; I usually do my own hair (wash, air dry, blow dry, flat iron, and style). My advice for potential buyers of the Maxiglide: ----- 1. Don't pay too much attention to all the negative comments about this product that you see posted (ripping out hair, breaking off hair, burning hair etc...) Any product can rip out your hair if YOU have the temperature too high or if you squeeze or do a rush job. I have burned/broke some of my hair out before with a hot comb but, that was not because it was a bad hot comb, it was because I had the temperature too high for my hair. This is the mistake that others must be making. 2. When you get the Maxiglide watch the dvd and follow the directions and take your time until you get comfortable with this product. If you only have 15 minutes to spare then don't use the Maxiglide or if you are already frustrated with your hair then don’t work on it with the maxiglide until you calm down. Again personal experience—I have had braids before and while taking them out I have just got frustrated lost my patience and started yanking the comb through my hair trying to hurry up and get done but, hey it doesn’t make that the braider’s fault. 3. Use the steam function. I must have had to refill the blue water reserve about 5-6 times while doing my hair to get a better result. If the Maxiglide slows down while you are gliding and seems to be stuck in your hair, stop use the steam function and go back to the root and use the steam all the way down the piece of hair and it will be perfect. I did not have to run the Maxiglide through the same piece of hair more than twice at all. So, go ahead purchase the Maxiglide and if you purchase it and decide that you like less manageability from your hair then you can always return it within 30 days. I have been in the mirror since I finished using the maxiglide so you read between the lines. Glides by G.

Product Rating: 2 what a nightmare
Reviewer: Angel   Fri Aug 29 2008

when i bought this iron i loved it at first. it straightened my hair and heated up pretty quickly, my hair seemed healthy.
a year later i had to cut my hair short, because this iron breaks hair, pulls hair and i ended up with split ends. my hair went from looking nice to pretty horrible, so yeah it is a nightmare. i am buying the chi.

Product Rating: 3 Just OK
Reviewer: Never Mind from columbia, sc  Thu Aug 28 2008

I have thick yet fine wavy hair which is also curly underneath. I have used the Chi for 2 years and saw the Maxiglide and thougt perhaps technology had gotten better than the Chi. I purchased and have used for about 5 weeks now and noticed at my scalp little short hairs popping up. The Maxiglide rips out your hair and this in new growth. It is also bulky (and I have the small one)The Chi is for me.
Sorry Maxiglide..It is over rated.

Reviewer: Jayme   Mon Aug 25 2008

My mom bought this iron after seeing it on TV. She has very curly hair and never straightened her hair. So it sat in our bathroom drawer for a few months until I decided to use it one day. I had never straightened my hair before and was stunned! It made my hair so smooth and silky and shiny. I was hooked. Right off the bat though the commercial lies when it says the sides aren't hot. THEY ARE!! I never used the steam applicator (it steams without it too. WATCH OUT IT'S HOT!) It was complicated and took forever to use and ended up tangling my hair. And I soon gave up on the de-tangling plate, it hurt and pulled my hair!! I thought that was the only problem. It then started to loose heat and I would have to crank it up to the highest setting and it would still not be hot enough. Then the light that blinks to let you know when it's done stopped working and just flashed continuously. While all this was going on I failed to notice the cord until it was too late. After wrapping it up after each use, the base where it connected to the iron got tangled to the point where it couldn't be undone. Then the plastic covering twisted off completely and exposed the copper cords!! I was horrified and then it shocked me!! On top of all this it slowly fried my hair and my ends were so split and fried. So in the end I gave up and tossed it. So basically, it's great in the beginning but doesn't live up to the hype. In the long run, don't waste your money. if you do get it, READ THE WARRANTY CAREFULLY!! NOT EVERYTHING IS COVERED!!

Product Rating: 2 Do not recommend for thick, frizzy hair
Reviewer: Anonymous   Sun Aug 24 2008

My hair is thick and frizzy, and it takes me about 45 min to 1 hr to straighten my hair with this, and my hair is shoulder length. It also makes your hair smell burnt, and damages your hair more than most other products I've used.

Product Rating: 3 Made my hair fall out!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewer: Blance Vela from Chicago IL  Wed Aug 20 2008

I bought the maxiglide on HSN about 1 yr ago and I have been using it ever since although it did work very well to make my hair straight it didn't get it very shiny and after a few hours my hair would frizz again and after using it for about 6 months my hair got alot thinner and even after I would use it would pull alot of my hair out, and I have pretty normal hair I'm white so I pretty much rarely use it now.

Product Rating: 5 for those that don't know how to use the Maxiglide
Reviewer: Jennifer   Fri Aug 15 2008

I have read numerous reviews and can not believe the people that say their hair is damaged and being pulled out. First of all you have to set the heat setting for your hair type, or you will damage your hair....any and hair straightener product will tell you this. Second if your hair was being pulled out your were applying to much pressure to the plates. The Maxiglide is designed so that you can apply as little or as much pressure to the plates as needed to "comb" through the hair....a simple hair brush will pull hair out of head !!!! I use this flat iron on my daughter and it is the only flat iron that I can use on her hair because of the thickness and curliness of her hair. The plates with the little "combs" on it glide through her hair and it takes me half the time with the Maxiglide than it does with traditional flat plates. After 2years her hair has never been damaged because of it, we are only buying a new one because our puppy chewed the cord on the one we currently have.

I do not like this product at all. It pulls my hair out. My hair gets caught in it which freaks me out. It fries my hair & makes it smell terrible! It's big & weighs too much too hold for the amount of time it takes to straighten the hair! I have to go over the same spot like 5 or 6 times for it to be smooth and add body to my hair. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
