Product Rating: 4 Loved it...if only it lasted
Reviewer: Alejandra from Chicago, IL  Wed Nov 11 2009

I have pretty wavy, thick hair and I'm pretty obsessed about my it. I had a boyfriend buy this for me as a gift and I loved it! Even convinced my sister to buy one. I loved this straightener, my hair was always left soft and silky with very few split ends (of course I deep condition regularly) even my hair dresser complimented me when I went in for trims. However, it only lasted for 2 years. After it died (the cord messed up, and started letting out sparks) I immediately ran out to get another one, which died 1 1/2 later this time the side that didn't move heat up. Other then that I loved it and still recommend it, but for now I'm on the search for a new, better straightener.

Product Rating: 5 Love It!!

This is the second Maximus I have purchased because the first one after 5 years now of using it 6-7 days a week is not as hot as it used to be. If you brush your hair first, the detangling pins do NOT hurt what so ever, they just seperate your hair so that each strand can get smooth and frizz free! What I love most about this iron is how healthy and shiny your hair looks! And for added bonus if your twist the iron around your hair at the ends, it makes for beautiful soft curls like a curling iron would do, but you only need this one tool! Totally worth the money and the best iron out there!!!

Product Rating: 1 Broke so fast!
Reviewer: Molly   Sat Oct 17 2009

I had one in high school and it worked really well, made my hair look naturally straight and healthy. My black friend gave it to me after owning it for a while, because she said it didn't work on her hair type.

So after a few months I stepped on it and broke it by mistake! I was so sad, so I bought another one. After maybe 5 months it still worked, but it just didn't seem like it was doing as good a job. It broke after about 7 months. One of the plates just stopped heating up. I heard this happens to a lot of people.

I bought one about a month ago, missing the super healthy looking hair it used to give me,and it is ALREADY totally broken. I've used nothing but bottled water, never dropped it, etc. SO ANNOYING.

Product Rating: 4 Used it for years!

I love the Maxiglide. I have not had a relaxer in 2 years and you would NEVER be able to tell.
I am mixed, spanish/black. My hair is dry, frizzy, and easy to tangle, but not coarse. This NOT only makes it straight, BUT it leaves your ends as straight and shiny AS the rest of your head. The steam works well (which is weird because instant humidity, rain etc, frizzes my hair) not this, softens and straightens. I have used this product for 4 going on 5 years. My first one went dead after two years, I got another one. I prefer the combs, because it gets your hair REALLY straight. I would advise if you have my hair type to put a bit of oil of some sort at your tips for maximum results. :) Prefer NO other straightener!

ok so i bought this straightener a week ago and it sucks! Dont waste your time even thinking bout buyin this because its a rip off! before i bought the maxiglide i had the jilbere de paris flat iron that worked amazing but after a year it stopped heating up. so i decided to buy this one and it damages your hair. the brissels in the straightener tug at your hair and trust me it hurts! also the thing i hated about this piece of crap was that you had to put water in it all the time and it had to be distilled water or purifyed water! overall its not worth it im going to return the maxiglide 2day and get the jilbere de paris iron again:)

Product Rating: 1 dont think so...
Reviewer: Sara from Tallahassee  Tue Aug 11 2009

I thought this would be good for my natural 4a/4b afro hair, but it was a disaster. After filling the contraption with water and turning it on, the boiling water proceeded to leak on me. After singeing my skin, I ran the flat iron through my blow dried hair without any product in my hair. Even after using the ridiuclous steam burst function, my hair just looked ultra blow dryed. And lets not forget how the iron ripped and burning the ends of my hair. I'm going to give this iron one more try using a higher setting and using a straightening product... But I doubt I'll like the results.

Product Rating: 1 DO NOT GET IT!!!!
Reviewer: Aloha from From online Maxiglide original website  Sun Aug 09 2009

My husband bought me a whole package as they were always advertised it on TV, so I was so excited when I first got however it hasn't been a year yet and it's NOT WORKING. I have no idea what happened to it but I've been using it for about 8 months now. The problem is that I don't know how to fix it. I regret bugging my husband to buy me one but it's useless it even damaged my hair real bad. So never attempt to buy it

Product Rating: 2 not that great
Reviewer: tahnee from bristol,tn  Fri Jul 10 2009

i have thick and wavy/curly hair and this iron straightens it but as soon as i step outside it gets frizzy again.i've had mine over a year and it seemed to work better when i first got it but nothing stopped the frizz like it said it would.the pins seem to pull and break my hair.i've used every hair product out there to get my hair under control and the only thing that really worked was a chi.i had my hair cut on a rainy day and my hair dresser used a chi and it turned out wonderful and didnt frizz at all.it wasnt just the products b/c i went and bought the same stuff she used and it didnt compare at all.if i was gonna spend that much money i'd save a bit more and get a chi or something else.i have a conair wet to dry iron and they pretty much do the same job.

I've had this flat iron for about a year now,at first it worked great but when humid weather and rainy weather came my hair just frizzed up.i always straighten my bangs and i would use heat protectant and serums and all that kinda stuff but it looked like i had a small animal on the side of my face. And whenever i tried to straighten it forget it,it would take about 4 hours which is too long if you ask me,or anyone. As soon as I would walk out my bathroom door it will frizz up and look awful.I have curly hair,it is not thick but i have a lot of it,but it shouldn't take four hours! so i say you should invest in something else!!

Ive had my Maxiglide XP for about a year now. I was very excited when I got it. It seemed to smooth my hair at first, but if the day got humid my hair would frizz up again. It wasnt until a while after using it that my hair started to break badly. Now I have short chunks of hair all over my head. Im letting it grow now and Im trying to get it back to what it looked like before I started using the Maxiglide.

Product Rating: 5 THE BEST EVER

I can't live with out this straightner. I will never buy any other hair straightner again. This is the best product for straight hair on the market, hands down..

Product Rating: 5 Awesome!

This product works great on my hair! If its pulling your hair out, you're just doing it wrong because i have thick curly hair (really, i mean its not nappy but its thick) and i don't know if you know this but if you have more ethnic hair you have to detangle it before you use a straightening product for the best results and no hair being pulled out

Product Rating: 1 The WORST flat iron i've EVER used!!
Reviewer: Shanon from New Orleans, Louisiana  Sun May 24 2009

I've used many flat irons in search of a good one, and my mom thought she finally found a good one for me and ordered this one off of TV. This flat iron RIPS MY HAIR OUT SOOOO BADLY and it's PAINFUL when it does rip it out. The steam dried out my hair even more, it didn't help get rid of the frizz at all! I would NEVER recommend this product to anyone! What a waste of money!

Product Rating: 4 REALLY Like this!
Reviewer: kome from san diego, ca  Tue May 12 2009

I had one of the initial ones and lllLLLOVED it!! My hair is curly being half Japanese and Black and for not having any chemical straightener in my hair, this is the best straightener i've ever used... I was very upset when it was broken to the point that i won't even buy anything else.. i just wish it was a little cheaper to make my pocket feel better but TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

Product Rating: 3 Good for long hair
Reviewer: Michele from San Diego  Wed Apr 22 2009

I have the Maxiglide XP and loved the way it made my long hair look. As long as it was not humid; if it was, my hair looked frizzy and almost worse than if I had left it alone. I had my hair cut short a few months ago and my Maxiglide does nothing to it. I now have to buy a new tool for my short hair.

Product Rating: 5 Can't live without it!
Reviewer: J   Thu Apr 16 2009

My hair is long and I section it. I do the whole bottom half of my head first, then I do smaller sections around the top. I air dry my hair first which is thin, frizzy and curly. It only takes me 10 minutes to straighten and I don't even use the steam. I did in the beginning, but it works so well without it that I don't bother. You just need to know how to use it properly and you'll be fine. Watch the instructional video first. Piece of cake. Be sure to comb through each section before straightening and don't hold it too tight on your hair or of course you will rip it out of your head because it's not flat plates. I live in south FL and it's very humid here. I've been caught in the rain and my hair still doesn't frizz, unlike with other flat irons.

Product Rating: 5 IF YOU READ THEN MAYBE IT WONT PULL YOUR HAIR OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewer: Jay from Houston  Sat Apr 04 2009

This by far is THE best flat iron I have ever had/tried and I've have owned all from the chi, fhi, ghd, hai, and even tried the sedu. None of them compare to the maxiglide. I am aa type 4a with a little bit of 3c in the center of my head. Yes, it does take longer to flat iron, BUT after a long day (11+ hrs) of being in Houston's humidity my hair doesn't frizz,it loosely curls up(seriously) by the time I get back home and my hair is known for being horribly frizzy (note: I use chi silk & john Frieda frizz ease (in the orange bottle). This tool reminds me of a hot comb. You will get wonderful results IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS on the dvd. YES it will take longer but its worth it.

Product Rating: 3 Don't use the steam.
Reviewer: Krissi from Oregon  Sat Mar 28 2009

I've had this iron for about two years, and I only straighten my about once a month. I used the steam everytime, hoping it would help condition my hair, only to realize that it was actually DAMAGING it. Just the other night, I was going to straighten my hair with it, only to discover I left the removable water holder (I take it out so it doesn't leak on the iron) at home. I decided to try straightening without the steam, and my hair wasn't damaged one bit! It was so soft and shiny. Try using the steam at first, and if it helps your hair not get damaged, keep using it. But if you're like me and your hair gets damaged from this iron, see what happens without the steam.

P.S: I have really thick, hard to straighten wavy hair. With the steam, it gets it kind of straight, and without the steam it gets it pin straight.
