I got the Maxiglide about a year ago. It still works perfectly! It straightens pretty well, but I highly recommend not using the the plate with pins. It just gets tangled in hair and yanks them out (ouch!). I usually don't use the steam burst, but when I do, it seems to work fine. Also, the size makes it SUPER akward to straighten smaller sections. I can't get my bangs straightened that well and getting really close to the roots is difficult. It's definitely not as good as a CHI or Solia, but it simply gets the job done for a good price.

This flat iron did a GREAT job on my transitioning hair. I have not had a relxer since last Sept (2007) and my new growth is very coarse. I watched the DVD for tips. One glide through my hair with no pressure was very efficient. The maxiglide does all the work. I recommend this product to ANYONE who has a difficult time achieving the bone straight bouncy look that they desire! See my before & after pics.

Hello! My name is Crisslie. There's a pic of me already so i decided to show my daughters pics. She is only 4 years old and she loves it. Any blow dryer would keep her hair puffy and frizzy looking, but as u can see maxi-glide does the job. I use to spend too much money trying to straighten out her long hair, but now I do it and it's done in half the time. Thank you MAXI-GLIDE!

I've been wanting the Maxi-glide for a long time now, and I am so glad that I finally bought it. It took me faster than I thought it would take to straighten out my hair. Now that I have purchased the maxi-glide, I no longer need to relax my hair. But one thing I should mention is that it's best if you buy a heat protection creme to apply prior to doing your hair. Overall it is an amazing product. Just look for yourself.

I bought the Maxiglide with high hopes after seeing the commercials and whatnot. ive been straightening my hair for years and this is the worst product ive ever used, i dont even understand how its on the market. the little teeth on the plates cause major breakage which makes ur hair very frizzy and damaged. if you use the flat plate that comes with it, when you close it the plates have almost a full cm of space between them. It was a waste of time and I hope I can save someone else from wasting their time on this product as well.

I just purchased the Maxiglide last week and could not wait to try it out. I read just about all the reviews here and was kinda skeptical but wanted to purchase it anyway. What I liked most about Maxiglide was the teeth. The product does exactly what it says it will do. The infomercials are true. The only reason I see this product not working is mishandling. If you try to flat iron too much hair at one time, it will be a nightmare (which is what I accidently did, twice).
For my african american 4a type hair, I used setting two. I don't see why anybody would need the iron hotter than 3 or 4 to be honest. I can imagine the iron melting if you have it set higher than 5. That iron gets some kind of hot. I didn't have bottled water so I got the water from my refrigerator, which is purified, and then I boiled it, and let it cool. I also didn't fill the water chamber with a lot of water. And when I got done, I emptied the excess water from the chamber.
The first time, it only took me 35 minutes. The second time, it only took probably about 20 minutes. There were times were I went over some sections twice, only because I failed to slow down toward the end of my hair. My hair is only about 7 inches long and I was able to use the steam burst on the ends of my hair without burning myself. I didn't have a problem with the weight of the Maxiglide at all. I do workout but not sure if that was it.
If you use this product the way they tell you to, there is no reason for it not to work. My biggest advice is to not get too anxious, do not to try to straighten too much hair at one time, and by all means, DO NOT SQUEEZE the Maxiglide. You're not flat ironing, you're Maxi-GLIDING. I added some photos of what my hair looks like before Maxigliding and what it did afterwards. I hope they show up. You can't tell me the product doesn't work well.

I wish i could give it a 3-1/2 star!
When i first got the maxiglide it heated up less then 60sec,and straighten my hair so well! But after a couple of months start rolling in,it would take up to 3min to heat. The steamer is not the best, and he claims it does not burn you?? HAHA it burned the crap out of me! It takes me atleast 2 hours to straighten my thick hair with the iron too and YES it does pull your hair out if it is not completly combed out AND you do not start at the bottom! Once a year passed i've have to go over my hair over&over again(and thats with a relaxer) to get it straight, it started to smell like BURNT plastic & hair, the Blk paint started to chip off too! OMG i would never ever eva reccomend this for someone with thin hair!Oh and there are certain websites that offer different deals for the maxiglide too(do your research)!
I have had my MaxiGlide for over 3 yrs now and i think its dead but as i said it was a Love&Hate relationship with the MaxiGlide =/

I have frizzy, curly hair, so I'm always looking for ways to straigten it. My sister and I both have the Maxiglide. She got hers first and I would always use it, until I got one of my own. Well, this may sound strange, but I noticed that my sister's worked much better than mine. Hers made my hair perfectly straight, smooth and soft. It looked amazing...so then I got mine and my hair looked no where near what it should. Now she went off to college so I'm stuck with mine lol My hair also stayed nice when it was hot/humid So now I'm looking into a Sedu or Solia. The first picture is when I used my sister's Maxiglide. The second is mine. (notice how terrible it looks in the rainy weather at my college graduation :( ) I blurred the face on the second one cuz it's just a terrible pic lol

Meet the maxiglide. (it doesn't deserve to be capitalized here)
I bought the maxiglide last month.
When I took it home and tried to use it, I was very very very disappointed. Yeah, it makes your hair straight. Yeah, it makes your hair shiny. Yeah, it looks good in the end. BUT, it's not so much about what the end result looks like, but how you get there matters more.
When I first plugged in the maxiglide and tried to adjust the temperature, a VERY bright light flashed in my eyes. The light is very very bright and it is impossible to adjust the temperature with that light flashing in your face.
After a few minutes, you are ready to begin straightening your hair. When it is heated up, the iron sizzles because the water from the Steamburst compartment leaks all over the place.
And then you run it through your hair. OH. MY. GOODNESS. You would not believe how hard you must yank and pull through your hair. The ceramic pins are a big pain. They The maxiglide even caused my little sister, aged 11pull out many strands as you run it through your hair., to CRY after straightening half of her head. She was very angry with me afterward, and was also upset with the way the maxiglide pulled and tugged on her hair.
If you only run it through once, it isn't straight. Run it through twice, still not straight. Five more times, it's pretty straight.
After straightening one section or two, the maxiglide begins to smell very bad. It emits a burning odor which lasts for hours. It stinks pretty awful.
You must take very little sections for the maxiglide to work well. If you take a large section, you will end up having to run it through more than 10 times.
Not only is it a pain to your head, but also is a pain in my arm! The thing is very heavy and I have to run that through many times for my hair to get straight. I found myself taking many breaks, in which my head would throb after the maxiglide ripped hairs out of my scalp.
Using the maxiglide, your hair will probably end up straight in about 2 or more hours. That's how long it took with me.
So, after all that pulling and tugging and burning, you have straight shiny hair. But after ONE HOUR, my hair gets curly again! ONE HOUR! Having to do so much work, you'd want the results to last longer. But, no! We're talking about the maxiglide here. The crappy, awful, painful, smelly, bulky, heavy, hair-ripping waste of money, the maxiglide!
So if you're in the mood for tears, headaches, and a sore arm, waste your money on this piece of crap. Go ahead. But I, for one, hate it and would not even recommend it to my worst enemies.

Hello all - I've had a MaxiGlide for a little over 2 years. It just recently broke and I'm going to buy another one. This has to be the most excellent product that they ever came up with. I happen to be mixed with Black West Indian and American Indian and have a pretty good grade of hair, but it's really curly. I really don't have the option to perm and really don't want too (Perms actually makes my hair fall out). I love the diversity of my hair. I've used everything to get straight hair. I like to wear my hair down sometimes. I tried everything from flat irons to hot combs and nothing really works.
When I first got my MaxiGlide I was so surprised with the results. My hair was so soft and silky and bone straight. The major problem that I have with other flat irons is that I loss all my curls and I can't re-curl my with a curling iron. It just straight and flat with no body. With the MaxiGlide I don't get that. I love this product.
I would definitely recommend it to my other mixed girls or for anyone with curly hair that doesn't want to perm. It is definitely with the price.

I just recieved this straightener a week ago, and I could not be more pleased with the results. I have read a lot of the other reviews, and the main complaints seem to stem from the longevity of the product and the damage to the hair.
However, any iron can damage your hair, if you don't take proper care of it. Deep conditioning and protective serums will work wonders for your hair.
And any iron can break, if you dont take proper care of it. I am wary of using the blue steam thing because it seems to break the iron for other people. I will leave another review in probably 6 months to report on how mine is holding up.
My hair is medium length, frizzy, and of medium thickness. I set it at an 8, which may be too high, but it litterally cut my styling time in half. I used to use Conair/GoldnHot irons, which were cheap and worked as such. Now I can do my hair in 10-15 minutes, and it stays straight a lot longer. It is also a lot softer.
If it lasts beyond a year, this iron will be well worth the money.

Before I get started I wanted to give much thanks to Renée O. from Houston, TX because she wrote an awesome review. I doubt I can top this in any way. I would have to say that everything she wrote was exactly what I would say about the product; especially the part about the cord, what's up with that?? However, I must say thanks to Maxius for an awesome product. I spend only 10 minutes a day doing my hair and it gets longer every month. When my cord got so twisted that my original Maxius iron stopped working, I quickly purchased another one. This time I will put a lot more effort into keeping the cord from doing this again. Yet, if I did have a problem again, I would purchase this product all over again. The steam works great and adds additional shine to my hair. I don't put anything else in my hair accept for CHI Silk Infusion, and I hate perms to death and don’t use them!!! I believe that if I didn't add the CHI, this iron would still do the trick.
It takes some time getting use to this iron but after you do, it is worth its weight in gold. A suggestion for future users, if you want your hair to look shiny instead of dull, it is a good practice to blow dry your hair first. You don't have to use the hottest setting but just make sure you get the curls out because if you don't, if your hair is already dry and curly, it's harder to straighten the hair in its final state. When your hair is wet get the curls out if nothing else, and no you don't have to blow dry your hair straight, just make sure your hair is devoid of any curls before using the Maxius glide; it just makes the end result that much better and your hair won’t be dull.
Also if you’re purchasing this product for the first time, try to keep the iron in good health. Clean it, make sure you don't pull on the cord (it will eventually break if you don't), and just practice upkeep because this product is really worth the price.
I didn't have any problems with the little blue steam dispenser, however based on other reviews; I can definitely see where this could cause a problem. I won't be leaving that connected with the iron anymore if I can help it. I would hate to purchase this product for the second time only to run into another mechanic issue!! By the way, I had this product for three years before I had to purchase the second one. Just like anything in life, some things (depending on use, I use it a lot) do not last forever; unfortunate but true. :(
All in all, if you looking for an iron that is easy to use and will flatten your hair in as little time as possible, this is definitely the product for you.
I'm not sure if anyone is interested but if you don't put a lot of products in your hair and you're only using the iron (or even if you do) a great purchase alongside of this is the Curlaway straightened. Put in a search for it on the internet and read some of the reviews. This in addition with this iron is phenomenal!!!! Although if your sensitive to smells and all, I wouldn't suggest sleeping with it in your hair overnight. Make sure when you apply it to your hair, the area is well ventilated. Everybody is different so don’t quote me. I had to get use to the apple/vinegar aroma, but once I did I had no problems leaving it in overnight. The Curlaway straightener will gradually release the curls in your hair and make styling that much easier along with the Maxius flat iron.
Hope this review helps, good luck to all of you in your future purchases!!!! :D

When I first tried the maxiglide, it took me about 3 hours to straighten my hair. My hair is really curly and frizzy. The maxiglide does straighten my hair, but it leaves it looking dry. When I straighten my hair I have to buy other products to make it look more natural. I think it works better if your hair is not as curly

I just ordered the Maxiglide a few days ago; I received it yesterday. Since I was 100% new to it I tried it on heat setting 2 and I didn't see much of a result. But, I wanted to test out the temperatures to see which one was right and safe for my hair. I tried it again today on heat setting 4 for my thick hair. I was so surprised at the results. I am an African American female with the kinky, thick, nappy hair that gets to the point where you can't even get a comb through it after it has been washed and dried and currently it is rebuilding from a lot of damage due to chemical relaxers and color. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE MAXIGLIDE RIPPING PEOPLE'S HAIR OUT. The maxiglide was nothing but easy to use and gentle on my hair; I could count the few strands of hair that came out with the glides. I watched the dvd and followed the directions, and if you do that you will never go back to an ordinary flat iron again. Previously, I had been using a ceramic flat iron from Hot Tools and it worked alright but, I had to add a lot of grease and oils to my hair to get the healthy shiny look. However, with Maxiglide I just added a small amount of carrot oil and I glided away. I had body and bounce when I had finished and my hair felt soft and smooth at the root just like if I had a relaxer but, I don't. I've been all natural for over a year; I usually do my own hair (wash, air dry, blow dry, flat iron, and style). My advice for potential buyers of the Maxiglide: ----- 1. Don't pay too much attention to all the negative comments about this product that you see posted (ripping out hair, breaking off hair, burning hair etc...) Any product can rip out your hair if YOU have the temperature too high or if you squeeze or do a rush job. I have burned/broke some of my hair out before with a hot comb but, that was not because it was a bad hot comb, it was because I had the temperature too high for my hair. This is the mistake that others must be making. 2. When you get the Maxiglide watch the dvd and follow the directions and take your time until you get comfortable with this product. If you only have 15 minutes to spare then don't use the Maxiglide or if you are already frustrated with your hair then don’t work on it with the maxiglide until you calm down. Again personal experience—I have had braids before and while taking them out I have just got frustrated lost my patience and started yanking the comb through my hair trying to hurry up and get done but, hey it doesn’t make that the braider’s fault. 3. Use the steam function. I must have had to refill the blue water reserve about 5-6 times while doing my hair to get a better result. If the Maxiglide slows down while you are gliding and seems to be stuck in your hair, stop use the steam function and go back to the root and use the steam all the way down the piece of hair and it will be perfect. I did not have to run the Maxiglide through the same piece of hair more than twice at all. So, go ahead purchase the Maxiglide and if you purchase it and decide that you like less manageability from your hair then you can always return it within 30 days. I have been in the mirror since I finished using the maxiglide so you read between the lines. Glides by G.

I have thick yet fine wavy hair which is also curly underneath. I have used the Chi for 2 years and saw the Maxiglide and thougt perhaps technology had gotten better than the Chi. I purchased and have used for about 5 weeks now and noticed at my scalp little short hairs popping up. The Maxiglide rips out your hair and this in new growth. It is also bulky (and I have the small one)The Chi is for me.
Sorry Maxiglide..It is over rated.
