so should i buy this again, or try a new product.
so ive had this straightner for almost 2 years. i got it as a gift. i loved it! about two months ago the button u move to set it to a temperature broke and it doesnt stop now, it just keeps going around and around, and i didnt know if it was ready or not to use. i still used it cause i had no money to buy a new one and it worked fine. now it doesnt heat up at all and i need to get a new one. i dont know if i should try a new straightner or just stick with this one. i have gotten used this one and im not good with change. i have only used this hair straightner and the hot tools before this since i was in 6th grade and im now a senior in high school. i dont want to waste money on something im not going to like. i have thick think curly tight hair, and i dont know what to do. any suggestions [resonable price too, i cant go over like 90 dollars cause my mom wont let me take anymore money out of my account] maxiglide or new hair straightner?

Well, I would get a new straightner! It could end up damaging your hair if the heat is to high! If you do decide to get a different brand, try CHI! CHI is the best straightner around! The cheapest CHI is around 90 dollars, but is worth it! I can get on strand of my curly hair straight with just one glide!

I would say stick with the maxi glide, i mean since it's only 80.00 with all the case and conditioner or whatever else comes with it and i see someone recommended moving on to a "chee chee" but t he chee chee is 90.00 and you don't even know if you like it or not. ya know? Just stick with what you know since it lasted you from 6th grage to 12th grade i would say it was a good buy and lasted a long time. i mean things get old, that is the way of life. Stick with the maxiglide.

I just ordered the maxiglide today, but I have a LOT of experience with flat irons and if your hair is anything like mine you're going to hate it. First of all, most (well, all that I've seen)Chi models do not have variable temp. control. I have frizzy curly hair thats a bit coarse and resistant....Whenever I buy a new flat iron the first thing i do is check to see that a) it's ceramic and b) the temperature goes to atleast 350-400 degrees fahrenheit. With the best straighteners you will not need to go so high but it's good to have, because depending on the straightener the heat will penetrate your hair differently. One of my irons I have to set to 400 degrees and another I can get by with around 325. I've also tried a red flat iron I think its called GHI its supposed to be like the Chi in every way, and as far as I can tell it is, only it has a temperature control. It's a decent enough iron but not for resistant hair, I just hope the maxiglide is as good as everyone says it is.....Bottom line is if you like it, and it works, stick with what you know.

no it will not go back to same way just make sure you put enough grease-it might puff up a little so its better to tie it up depending on how humid it is

Damage
I love wearing my hair curly, but I also love to wear it straight. Will this straightener ruin my curly hair completley, or will it still be pretty curly once I wash it?

after you wash it, it will go back to curly. the only problem i have with it is that it smokes really bad and that it leaves a burned smell on your hair for awhile.

Yes, it will. I have been using the maxiglide ever since it first appeared on the market. I love it. I have naturally wavy hair, thick and coarse. When used correctly, and you must do that, it works great.

I, too, am an African American with "nappy" hair. I find that this product works wonders. I use B&B's Hair Food to help it along.

Does it really work?
I am sorry to say but I am a little obsessed with my hair. As a black girl with relaxed hair, I'm always looking for the perfect straightener for touch-ups or after washing my hair. Gettting a staightener would save a lot of money and time for me. So, my question is, after reading some reviews, is the Maxiglide the best choice for me, or are there other straighteners that would be just as good, if not better? ...that are also under $100?

I had the maxiglide and I am a black girl with black hair and all it did for my hair was make it DRY and puffy. So I wouldn't recommend it. I would reccomend that you get a HOT flat iron and use OPTIMUM OIL THERAPY. By shoftseen carson. It is sold at Sallys. It is good. But dont buy this maxiglide it will only make your hair dry.

I have the maxiglide and im a black girl with black natural hair and I would have to say that the maxiglide works wonders for my hair. The only problem I have with the maxiglide is that after a year of using the product it no longer heats up the blue light flashes continously but never gets hot enough to straighten my hair.

Kinky/curly/tangled are not the same as coarse/nappy. They're on different ends of the spectrum. As someone mentioned, the ethnic women on the maxiglide commercials didn't have black (coarse/nappy) hair. They had curly/kinky/tangled "white/asian/hispanic" textured hair. If you have traditional black hair, don't expect to get the same results that any of these women did. your hair is not built the same. particularly working with heat and moisture can be an issue on black hair because our follicles are NOT structured the same as white, asian, and hispanic hair. it's ten times more susceptible to heat and dryness due to it being overly porous and therefore less able to hold on to moisture, which makes it more brittle and prone to damage from burning (when using too much heat) or "boiling" (when applying heat when the hair is damp). our scalps also produce a lower amount of oils on average than these other ethnic groups contributing to the problems with dryness, lack of shine, etc. it's always important to do what's right for your hair type. to lessen damage, use regular hot oil and scalp treatments, use a ceramic flat iron with adjustable heat settings, never apply it to wet hair (lightly spritzed once with a protective hair oil is ok if using a lower heat setting - the important point is you should NOT hear your hair sizzling), try to stick to non sticky, non build up mostly or completely natural products that are great for protecting against heat, and do not use the iron every day. do it properly the first time, really being patient with it, and you shouldn't have to use the flat iron again for a few days at least. every day use will definitely do more harm than good to your hair in the longrun.

Yes the product really works. It's the best investment I've ever made for my hair. I have used this product on all types of hair and on males too. We are all amazed by this product. You just have to get a really good Hair Polisher. I use Fantasia Hair Polisher. You adjust the heat according to your hair type and straighten away. This product save me time and money. I've save hundreds of dollars because of this product. If your hair turns out fizzy it's because you are using it wrong. However the fizzy hair product that came with the package, I did not use. I fine that the fantasia Hair polisher works really well. Every one at work thinks i go to the solon to get my hair done.

The maxius hair straightener really does work. I am a african american girl and my hair is naturally thick and cury. With this hair straitener is actually undos all my curls and leaves me with really straight shiny silky hair. I love this hair straightener so much that i now have to. I recremend this to anyone who doesn't just want the top layer straightened like most hair straighteners, but the roots and ends are beautifully straightened with this hair straitener

i bought a maxiglide due to my daughter putting peroxide in her hair to dye and my big chi was frying her ends and my edges (both had peroxide in hair for different reasons) but i had to find a flat iron with a temperature control.i have 3 girls and myself w/ long DIFFERENT hair textures and the maxiglide works (if not better than the chi.) we dont use it but every 3 weeks and if we wear our hair natural we keep it moisturized, braided, twist pulled in in a bun cuz again we cant wear the same hair styles cuz of the different textures. BUT WE get the SAME results with the maxiglide.

I am black and my hair had wonderful results with the Maxiglide. Like you, I am obsessed with my hair. My advice is avoid chemicals, you really don't need them. They damage your hair. I used to relax my hair for years and about 10 years ago, I STOPPED CHEMICALLY TREATING MY HAIR. I started washing it with good quality shampoos/conditioners and I started using Maxiglide. Guess what, I went from very short hair to very long to my back. People sometimes think I wear extensions and I have never used that crappy stuff. I am so happy that I have the Maxiglide and good hair care routine that I do myself. The salons always disappointed me. I did lots of research on getting healthy hair, regardless of length and my hair is just beautiful and CHEMICAL FREE....3/21/07

It should if you use it according to the directions. I have thick, wavy coarse hair. I've been using the maxiglide since it first hit the market. Unfortunately, and I think there is another post about this, after about a year, I have had two irons burn out. The blue light flashes continuously, and doesn't heat up. The upshot was that it was still under a year and under warranty and the company sent me a brand new one, no questions asked even before I returned the burned out one.

Get a pink Solia iron OR a solia 1-1/4" iron. Just go to the search bar and type in Solia and buy either the pink one or the 1-1/4" one. I'm a black girl and your hair sounds very similiar to mine. The maxiglide did NOT work for my hair but the solia did. I have the black one and my sister has the pink one. They're like 88 bucks on folica.

I really like the Maxiglide. You have to use the right products so that the 2 can work together. If you go to www.hsn.com and type in the search on that website, you can view the video of how it is done and what to use. You also have to use the steam while going half way down the sectioned off hair to the ends. That is what keeps your hair from getting dry. Hope this helps.

Well i have thick curly hair that is often frizzy, but when i used the maxiglide first at one of my friends house it did an amazing job. My hair was very silky and it could last a good week or more. As long as you use an heat protecting serum it won't damage your hair. I'm obsessed with my hair as well and i was buying all these different products for my hair and none of them really worked until i used this maxiglide and now i get compliments all the time. I'm also african American so i can understand the whole touch up thing. I've relaxed my hair a couple of times but i didn't want to rid my natural curl so i stopped and now i use the maxiglide for the straight look. it's amazing and i highly recomend this!

Doesnt work for kinky hair
If you look at the commercial the black models have thick hair but it's of a different texture. Thick but curly. Now I relax my hair but I have kinky hair. I don't know what else to call it. It's not "curly" it's just a kinky texture and the maxiglide doesnt work for my hair type. I bought if after watching the infomercial but wasnt happy with the results...sorry to bust your bubble

I know.. mine did the same thing.. what kind of quality is that? All of a sudden it just stops heating up?! I've done nothing to cause it to just stop working.. it must be a mistake on the maufacturer's part becuas ethat is a really bad product, and they probably already know that which is why they made the warranty only a year because then you can't do anything about your malfunctioned straightener.. and for that price ??!!! Bad manufacturing, I'll be sure to let people know not to purchase this product, it is not owrth your money.

It is sold in stores I brought mine at linens n things and the same thing happened to me it was the best flat iron made in history but it just stopped working after like 5 months now it just blinks and only heats up on one plate

Prep time?
How long does the maxiglide take to heat up after you turn it on? Some of the better flat irons take only 25 seconds before you can use them, and I'm deciding whether they're worth the investment.

I have curly hair, and I bought the maxiglide. It did NOT work after one use. It fried my hair, even with the use of thermal protective serum and spray, and my hair got tangled in the comb plate. The comb plate worked the first time only, and now it has the ends of my hair stuck to it. The instructions say in small print that this happens with curly hair and that you should use a toothbrush which i tried. It didn't work for me. Maybe it works on straight hair? I have a chi that works great, and I've heard of other straighteners that work too. The maxiglide is a disappointment.
