I wish my pediatrician found this sooner. But he was the one who recommended this to me. He too, was tired of his son putting his fingers in his mouth. The other stuff on the market is just spicy so there was no real deterrance. I decided to give it a try with my four year old. I was so tired of constantly nagging my son to stop sucking his thumb. I tried bandaids, I tried regular nail polish, nothing worked, not even bribing. I didn't want to do that plastic apparatus as I was afraid it would frighten him and make him feel bad about himself.
This product is amazing. It really works. And my son is so happy that he doesn't suck his thumb anymore and that he is now a "big boy"! It really worked for me. I am so relieved he has finally stopped sucking his thumb. If you're desperate, I would try it. It's a shame it's not more widely known.

I was skeptical and a little worried about putting something on my son's thumbs that tasted gross enough to cause another reviewer's daughter to get sick. But within 48 hours of applying this he stopped sucking his thumb. I applied it twice: 1st day and 3rd day and that is it. On the first day any time he would forget and suck his thumb he would rush to get a drink. But it did not make him gag or vomit. So don't let other, reviews scare you. My son can be a whiner and he never did, he knew it was time, and accepted the help. He doesn't even suck his thumb in the middle of the night. Thank you.

On the bottle it says for external use only, meanwhile its used for kids who put their fingers or thumbs in their mouths??? That doesnt make any sense. It smells like nail polish remover. I think if they are going to make a product geared for kids it should be safe if ingested.

My 6 year old painted this on her thumb fingernails herself. She gave it one taste, said yuck and has not sucked her thumb again. I will say that she was ready to quit sucking her thumb. They have to be ready.

The first 24 hours after using MAVALA my 3-year-old thumb sucker had a rough time, very moody, not sleeping well, etc. Very understandle considering she had sucked her thumb since she was 4-months-old. However, by the third night she had stopped vocalizing her disgust. It's been about 3 weeks now and she is learning to talk out her emotions instead of sucking her thumb when she gets tired, mad, sad, or nervous. Therefore not only will she have a beautiful straight smile she is also learning valuable coping skills. Last but certainly not least she is so proud that she is a "Big Girl". Thanks MAVALA!

I am an adult with a lifelong history of nail biting. As a medical professional I can not afford to have terrible looking nails. Mavala STOP is the only product that seems to work for me - one application and my fingers won't go anywhere near my mouth (it tastes that bitter). When I do have "relapses" after a few months, I simply apply it once more.

Unfortunately we're on round two because after we stopped using it, my 6 year old went back to thumb sucking. I read one review that the child got used to it - mine started to also though its hard to imagine, it tastes so bad! I guess it matters how die-hard and big a problem it is for the child. It did work better than anything else we've tried. Which is why we're going to do it again. I've even put it on the edge of my rugs to keep the dog from gnawing.

This stuff will keep your fingers far away from your face!I have been a nail biter ever since I can remember and the MAVALA helped me to stop quickly. I would recommend it to anyone who is having difficulties with not biting their nails.

On my 26th birthday, it was time to figure out how to stop biting my nails. i read the reviews for this product, purchased it immediately - and it's only been 2 and half weeks, but i've not only stopped biting my nails, i've stopped even putting my fingers near my face. This stuff is AWFUL! and really the only thing that in 26 years has even come close to helping.
*also, something important to note - while it does tend to come off onto finger foods once in awhile, it does not effect the wearing of contact lenses. i have had no trouble at all with mine. BUY THIS PRODUCT NOW!

This is a good product, but our 8-yr old overcame the foul taste and continued to bite his nails and also the skin surrounding his finger tips. We were applying the liquid every 1-2 days and letting it dry before he wqs out of our sight. It's not the fault of the product, we just have a determind kid!

I have a 3 1/2 year old son that has been biting his nails for a year now and I could not get him to stop. I tried Mavala and his nails are finally starting to grow. This product was recommended by a pharmacist when I purchased an over the counter product to help my 10 year old with his thumb sucking. I tried both products and STOP was by far and away more effective. Just one treatment has had a significant impact. It's been 3 weeks since the first treatment and my son has not sucked his thumb once! I am so happy for him and grateful to the pharmist and you for such an effective product. I wish I knew about it 6 years ago.

My daughter was a thumb sucker since birth. At 4 1/2 she was sucking her thumb day and night, constantly. Nothing worked; constant reminders to not suck, bribes, sticker charts, tobasco sauce...She just would end up crying that she couldn't stop. It was a very strong habit at this point. We received this bottle of Mavala 3 weeks ago, applied it the first day and she hasn't put her thumb in her mouth once! I did mention that the Tooth Fairy sent the nail polish because she wanted her to try to stop. She never looked back and is now so proud of herself and feels like a big girl! I only wish I had found this sooner!

My daughter has been a thumb-sucker since day one. When she didn't outgrow it by age 4, I started trying everything to help her stop. I'm glad I made the choice of buying this product. My son is 5 years old and was still sucking his thumb. And not just occasionally, but very frequently. We talked about giving it up and that he is ready, then I bought the product. We put it on and he went cold turkey. I could not believe it. 3 weeks and counting. I still put it on every 3 days or so, to avoid any temptation, but it does work. I would recommend it to anybody.

My 3-year old son was quickly turning his tumb-sucking calming time before sleep into an all-day long drooling obsession. I got particularly scared that things are getting out of control when I noticed that his front teeth (top and bottom) start to point forward and not to touch when he closes his mouth.
After the first application of MAVALA - stop for nailbiting and thumb sucking, the reaction was immediate. He will try to put his fingers into his mouth, but will pull them right away. However, his habbit was so strong that he tried to suck on other parts of his hand; and after a few days he got over the bitter taste and was suckin his fingers again.
I almost gave up any hope, but continued to apply MAVALA every second day, as well as remove any objects that will remind him of sucking (like the stuffed animals he used to sleep with). Gradually the result came - he's not sucking anything anymore. It took 2-3 weeks.
