7 yr old son chewing fingernails

My son wanted to stop chewing his fingernails and we tried a product found at our local drug store. It's main deterent ingredient was a spicy taste. Problem with that was the bad taste didn't "happen" right away in his mouth so he would chew the nail down and then realize he was chewing. This stuff taste's nasty right away. He has stopped chewing his nails after 3 weeks and since he was the one who has wanted to quit he does not have a problem applying every 2 days.
REALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She stopped nail biting with the first application. We have reapplied, but really didn't need too.

My daughter has been sucking her thumb for 6 years. I put this product on her thumb nails and within a week she had stopped sucking her thumb. It has now been about a month and she hasn't sucked her thumb.

My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and has been biting her fingernails for the past 6 months. After 1 application she has stopped biting her nails. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a problem with nail biting. It works great!!!!!!!!

We tried the product to get our 4-year-old son to stop sucking his fingers. Applied the product as directed and he didn't suck his fingers during the first day until he went to bed. Applied the product 2 more times (as directed) and it didn't seem to phase him. Discontinued use of the product.

My 2 year old sucked her fingers all the time. After just one day of using this product she has stopped. Its pretty strong so you don't need to use too much.

This product works great for anyone needing extra help (besides a nagging family member) to quit the nail-biting habit. Once you put it on, even the slightest hand-to-mouth gesture will immediately get your attention. The taste is very bitter and chemical (like nail polish, times 10) and lasts for quite a while in the mouth. So it's a good deterrent.
That said, be VERY careful preparing and eating any foods if you have this on. You may want to try using latex gloves when cooking and chopping food to avoid contamination. STOP transfers easily especially in liquids and oils and you can easily ruin a meal.
STOP also tends to make it hard to eat anything that requires putting your fingers to your lips...like potato chips. For kids, this could be a HUGE issue since they eat a lot with their hands.
Overall, highly recommended!

I have a 4 year old daughter and I had tried many, many different things to get her to stop sucking her thump. At first I was apprehensive about this product because my daughter loved the taste of all the other products that I had tried. It only took 2x of trying to suck her thumb with this on and she completely quite. I am so amazed because I tried everything and it only seemed to make her want to suck her thumb more. THIS PRODUCT REALLLY WORKS!!!!

I'm so happy I found Mavala. My three year old son has been biting his nails for 2 years. I can't even remember the last time I trimmed his nails, because he bites them so short. It only took one application of Mavala to get him to stop! Now, his nails are actually getting long--it's time for a trim, and he's so proud of that. I used it on my two-year-old daughter as well. She's been sucking her thumb since the womb! She quit after only two applications! This stuff is so great. I shared it with my sister whose six-year-old was still sucking her thumb, and she said it worked like a dream. I would recommend this product to any child or adult. Just remember, use utensils when eating, or it will make your food taste bad, too! Thanks so much. You have saved us so much future trouble with our kids.

We tried some off brand from Walgreens since it was the only one we could find and it wasn't worth the bottle it came in. Horrible! I tried finding "No Bite" by Orly, since I had used it on my 6 y/o before, but had no luck, so I had to to order it. When I went to order it, and a few reviews said Mavala Stop was better, so we tried it. It has been working awesome! There is definitely a distict taste to it, unlike the other kind I used. We have been using it for a couple weeks and he has gone from biting his nails & skin on his fingers every second you would look at him, to maybe once a day, if that...AND I hardly put it on him anymore. I definitely recommend this product! It's worth the extra couple of dollars in comparison to some other "No/Stop Biting" polish.

My 2 daughters ages 4 and 7 had (past tense) a terrible finger sucking habit. I applied it to the fingernails when they were asleep. My little one stopped the next day with just some whimpering. She only had the habit for the past year after her pacifier was taken away. My older one stopped sucking right away but there was about 5 days of grief. She had the habit since she was 8 months old. I am on the lookout for any relapses but it has been over a month. I blamed the "yucky finger spell" on the Tooth Fairy and it help deflect the guilt and blame. Overall, it worked and was well worth it.
STOP is an excellent product!

Finally a product that actually works in putting an end to thumb sucking and nail biting! I had just about given up hope. We had tried everything ... gloves at night; hot sauce; other nail polish type products ... and our 7 year old just took them off or even licked them off. My son was destroying his teeth and upper jaw.
As long as you keep with it.. and reapply it every couple of days it will work! My sister (a pediatric dentist) even recommends it to her patients!

My 3 year old daughter sucks her pointer finger I thought this would do the trick but no luck. This product did not work for my daughter

After applying product, the bad taste will definately keep you from putting your fingers in your mouth. Unfortunately, the taste also spreads to sandwiches and other finger foods you may be eating. You need to wear gloves when eating. Any food that accidentally touches your nails will get the bad taste.

This product did not hinder my three year old from thumbsucking. He did not enjoy the first taste, but then went right on sucking his thumb after that.

I highly recommend this product! My five year old just started biting his nails and I tried this. His nail biting stopped almost immediately. It's been a few weeks now and I stopped applying, he still has not put his fingers back in his mouth. I think this product may work best with a child who is just starting to bite nails, because I think a dedicated nail-biter may grimace but tolerate the taste. I was fortunate to catch this early, and this product was amazing! THANKS!!!

I used this on my 2-year old to stop her nail biting, and it worked right away. I only put it on once and she stopped biting within a day. I highly recommend this product!
