Dangerous and painful Skin Reaction
Reviewer:

In March of 2007 I purchased 4 Kits of Just For Men 'Beards'. Product purchased in mid 2006 and prior to that, worked perfectly. These recent kits have caused a very painful facial skin reaction complete with extreme inflamation, blisters and chapping. My face has felt like it is on fire. The first kit application produced this result and so I was reluctant to try it again; however, I thought perhaps I had a bad batch. Trying a second application from a second kit a week ago produced the same result.
Has the formulation changed? My recommendation is to give this product a pass; or, if you do try it and it produces this same reaction it would be helpful to notify the Company. I plan to go one step further and notify my lawyers and the FDA. BEWARE!
It really irritates your scalp

I've used this product maybe a half dozen times and suddenly it burns. After applying it yesterday and leaving it on for seven minutes (exactly) I itched some but woke up this morning burning with my skin all red wherever it stayed on. I had never left it on this long so my guess is that this is the problem with the burning. Before when I'd leave it on for less than five minutes my skin just itched but I put up with it. Read the other reviews. This product is certainly the worst solution to grey in your beard or hair.
Face on Fire

I used the Just For Men dark brown beard and moustache dye and it was tantamount to lighting my face on fire. It's 4 days after I used the product and my face (where the product was applied) is bright red and in agony. The itching at night is particularly dreadful. I'd rather have gray hair than deal with this. I understand they recently (about a year ago?) changed the ingredients. Makes me wonder what was in this product before?
Make sure you do the patch test every time

I used the Just for Men Hair Coloring for Facial Hair a few times and found it did a good job at getting rid of the grey. Because I used it before and didn't have any reaction I used it this past weekend without doing the patch test. BIG MISTAKE! I successfully colored my mustache, but my upper lip has become quite inflamed and feels like it is burning. It has become very chapped. I have a bunch of weeping blisters under my mustache. I guess I won't be using this product again.

I got complete coverage. It took longer than I thought to apply and it made my hair appear darker. I will try a lighter shade next time.
For beards product is great, but...

A couple things to remember:
1)My stylist recommended a shade lighter than my natural growth, which is mostly black. However, most guys will find their beard is really made up of several different shades of whiskers (got some red in mine). Going lighter allows your won variations (if you're not totally Santa-bearded) show through for a more natural look.
2) A buddy of mine with a really thick beard dyed his and then trimmed it. Wrong! Unless you really work that stuff in, you may miss the whiskers underneath...which he did. The effect was, uh, interesting! Trim first, then dye.
3) I only ever got a week out of an application before fading.
4) I used it for two years with no problems, and THEN developed allergies to the dye. Realize that reactions often develop over time with repeated exposures. For me, the result was red, itching skin...I ended up shaving off my beard, and it still took days and hydracortisone to clear it up. Do the patch test...and not just the first time you use the product. Do it every time!

been using it for 3 years and works very well for me but:
- is messy..you have to use the gloves and be extremely careful not to spil a drop or the stains are just impossible to remove..otherwise the whole thing takes no more than 10 minutes (including 5 minutes wait time)
- if it trickles on your skin you better stay at home for couple of days...use vasoline on ears and neck and skin near your hair before you apply..it helps
- as your hair grows..white hair starts howing on the sideburns
hmm?

well i ordered this product thinking that my hair would darken up a little. since my hair color is natural dirty blonde my hair did not darken. i want darker hair (ash brown) but i do not want it to be permanent. a shampoo would be nice if they made that. and also maybe lighten up my eyebrows a little bit to give it that natural look but that didnt work either :(. if you have ash brown hair as your natural hair color then this product is great, otherwise i wouldnt advise a purchase.

Used this garbage product about four years ago on mainly gray hair. followed instructions and ended up looking like a freak with elvis presley jet black hair. Had to wait approximatately 6 months for this crap to finally grow out. I would not recomend this to my worst enemy.

Esay to apply and covers white hair fairly well. The one thing that I don't like is that I have to do it every two weeks ! Any suggestions to make it ast longer ?
It works but watch out for allergic reaction

I liked the product for the most part. Easy to apply and worked well. One application lasted about 2 weeks for my goatee, but never really took care of the really gray hairs.
After using it for about six months, i developed a skin irritation which lasted for days. Caused intense itching, i actually used dandruff items and bactine, to relieve the irritation. About 3 weeks later, i started developing small bumps on my arm, which really itched. It spread throughout my upper body, with a couple on my legs. Went to dermatoligist then allergist. After multiple tests, i found i was allergic to the dye in this product, which is para-Phenylenediamine. I still have it, it has lessened, but still itching each day. Doctor says it may take 2-3 months for it to clear out of the body.
Look over the directions in the product, it specifically states that some may develop an allergic reaction to this, even after using it for some time.
Perfect Coloring for Men

This stuff is so perfect, it is undetectable from natural color. Admittedly, application is somewhat inconvenient. A fine lady friend (wife in my case) can apply it in less than 5 minutes with no hitches. Care must be taken to remove it from your skin quickly, (soaped tissue or Q-tip) to prevent dying of the area, but this can be done easily. Masking skin areas like the ear tops or hairline borders with Vasoline also prevents skin dying, but is not really required, so long as you carefully apply and review the areas afterward. Use the brush to apply in border areas, stroking into the hair from the border. Let it stay on for about 5 minutes then shampoo off and treat it like usual from there. I have used it for over 5 years! Another tip-> Mix ONLY half each of the two part liquids, (unless you have alot more hair than me) and stretch each box to do 2 colorings! Just so long as you do not mix the two together until you are coloring, they will keep. Also, in between touch-ups can easily be accomplished using small equal amounts of the two parts. Mix up and apply to border areas with the brush. As i said, no one knows your hair is colored unless you tell them!
Do a test before coloring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applied this to my husband head on a Sunday evening and by Monday afternoon his head was swollen twice its size and was red and itching and oozing. He was in a lot of pain and I had to miss a days work to escort him to the Dr.
The perscriptions were $37.00 and some odd cents. This is Wednesday and his swelling has yet to go down. It is still oozing and he is in a lot of pain.
I have colored my hair myself for years and never had a bad result. However the instructions say to do a test first. My husbands case is exactly why you should do the test a day or two before coloring.
Not on shelves in Georgia

I have also had trouble finding the Natural Sandy Blonde color on the shelves of ANY store in middle GA. The other colors tend to over darken my naturally light hair. Also the Beard and mustache color are almost non-existant. Maybe Grecian can help my Gray!
Hard to FindMy Color
Reviewer:

While "Just For Men" is very easy to use I have a difficult time finding the color I prefer. I first began using "Light Brown" but it made my hair more "Dark Brown." I tried it again, but not letting it set for the full 5 minutes, and it still came out too dark for me.
I stumbled on a box of "Sandy Blonde" at WalMart and was excited to find that it was the shade I had been looking for. Unfortunately, I could not find this color again. Either, it is a very popular color and sells fast or, it is not being distributed as much as the other colors.
So I will stay gray until I find another product that offers my shade or, until "Sandy Blonde" is stocked on the shelves.
I may have added another star to my rating if I could find my color on the store-shelves.
