Best Straightener I Have Ever Owned!

This straightener took me months of debating until I finally decided to buy it on an impulse. After going home, and picking up a container of distilled water (because it costs next to nothing and highly recommend using it), and using on my super thick asian hair, I have to say the results are amazing! I had previously straightened my hair with a TIGI Bed Head iron which I owned for a little over a year now and I was not happy with the results. It did what it was supposed to which was straighten my naturally straightish hair to pin straight but after a few hours, my ends will start to look unsightly. My hairs been chemically treated tons of times but I've always taken care of it (heat protection spray, protein fillers after color, moisture shampoo for chemically treated hair). My TIGI would always make my ends seem that much more burnt and damaged and it was like that before I first used the steam straightener. After using it on the steam setting and passing it over my already flat ironed hair, I was amazed. My hair felt super soft and silky and I only had to pass it once. Now, I know alot of people say it takes a few passes but if you do it slow enough (which you should to let the steam condition) it should only take one pass. But regardless it takes many with any straightener. I was able to run my fingers through my hair and after completing my whole head it looked thinner than ever. And by thinner, I don't mean flatter! My hair had volume without having to use any products! It's been a week since I bought and the results still surprise me. Although I have reallllyyyy thick hair, I use the straightener on the low steam, 2nd to highest heat, and high detangeler comb position. To get my pin straight results I don't even need the highest heat or the most steam to it. What can I say? I'm glad I finally purchased this straightener and will never return to my old ones again.
TIP! When filling up the cartridge with water, tilt it at an angle and slowly pour into the hole. If you pour too fast or flood the small hole, the air inside will only allow you to fill it a little bit. It took my a while to realize this and now, after filling it once it lasts enough for half my head on the steam setting. Some may find refilling annoying but its completely worth the time for this straightener.

im thinking about buying this straightner but i read these reviews and im concluding that it depends on the hair type u have.... i have wavy hair.. not frizzy but random waves and little curls evrywhere.... and when i straight(with my normal straightner) my hair about 15 minutes later.. the ends arent straight anymore.. they curl up a bit.. i wanna know if this steam straightner will keep my ends completely straight for over 10 hours?? plz help

I used my friends' straightener, and she happens to have this one. I used it on her younger sister's thin, straight hair. I liked that it uses the steam from the water you put in there, not making your hair as damaged. But when I actually went through it, it was pretty hard to actually get it all the way through. I noticed it kind of takes awhile to get done. You have to go through at least three times (even for thin hair) until it's actually straight. However, the ending results, which took awhile, was beautiful. I would not reccomend this for curly or thick hair.
Gets the Job done, .. I guess.

I've own this straightener since Christmas of 2008, and boy have I been waiting to get a new one.
I dont know how to describe this straightener. It's sort of bulky and heavier then others I've tried. Mine makes a rattling sound every time you pick it up, which kind of gets annoying after time. I see some people have rated this straightener 5 stars. This is not a 5 star straightener. I'm going to write the Pros and Cons of this straighter for you to see.
Pros-
1/It can get you STRAIGHT hair
2/Gets fairly hot (400F)
3/Gets hot quickly (around 20 seconds for lowest setting)
Cons-
1/ The prongs bend super easily
2/ The top blade gets hot, so you can't hold it down
3/ The plates DO NOT seal completely when they are closed!
4/ There is little bumps on the plates that are annoying
5/ Prepare for split ends, even using heat protection.
6/ Leaves hair more rough then silky
7/ Doesn't work with the weather
8/ Does not flip/curl very well
My suggestion:
This straightener isn't worth it's price for sure. Don't buy this straightener if you plan to play with it for more then a year, or you will end up in the same situation as me. This straightener was a HUGE upgrade for me from the old 20 dollar one I use to own, but as time went by, I realized that I could of done much better. This straightener will work for you if you can't order online because it is available for the same price at WalMart. If you are planning on ordering from Folica.com, then look up other brands. Search for Solia and Sedu straighteners before you decide that you MUST get this straightener.
Really works!

at first when i saw this straightener i thought it would act like my other conair straightener, which is really bad and made me spend about 20-30 minutes straightening my hair. I have wavy, unrelieable hair that sits just above my shoulder.
However, when i asked for a good straightener, i was very surprised to get this one. i immediatly went to the washroom and straightened my hair. I was so shocked! it worked AMAZING. the only drag part about it is that the steam chamber only holds so much distilled water and runs out easily. But I can live with that!
the best i have ever owned

i think anyone who uses this will be satisfied and as for the people who complained about it not working with split ends DUH get your hair cut normally and you wont have that problem i would tell everyone they should buy this

pretty good. i have naturally very thick, wavy hair and it takes around 20-30 minutes to straighten my hair with this. it gets my hair really straight and soft and i love the steam feature but after about an hour my hair gets a little wavy and i have to go over every piece a few times. it pulls my hair as well. its not worth the money. spend your money on something better like a solia or sedu or ghd. ive had it for a year and it still works though which is good.
Works well

It works well. I've had mine for almost a year now. Its starting to wear out. It makes my long thick curly hair staticy, but nothing thats unmanageable. In another 6 months, i'd assume i'll need another, as it is slowly getting old.
depends on your hair type.

i was very excited about getting this product because of the good reviews that I heared. When I first tried it, it made my hair stick straight (my hair is naturally wavy) and it gave my hair a nice shine. However, after using it so many times (i use it almost everyday), i developed LOTS of slit ends resulting in my hair to not be as straight at the ends. I use this straightener on a bunch of my friends and I found that the results varied. It won't go perfectly straight if your hair has lots of split ends. I once straightened my friend's hair with a CHI (i own LOTS of straighteners), and it worked well, I tried this straightener a few days later, and it made her hair VERY frizzy. Don't use the straightener if you have lots of split ends. Also, the container that hold the water for the steam is tiny, so you have to keep filling it up. Overall, it's an ok product. I, however, do not use it anymore.
Nervous to buy... GLAD I DID

Wow! I just bought it tonight after much deliberation. Pricey and I have a large collection of straighteners just not worth the effort for end result. I straightened my hair and could not believe the results. At first was worried because it looked frizzy but just made sure under layers were straightened and now I don't recognize myself in the mirror. Very put together for a change. Every time I straightened in the past I felt like I had a really bad wig on. Nothing worked. (I have very curly ringlets). I love my curly hair but it is so nice to have a change and feel smooth. I only had to put in a bit of a glossy oil in for finishing touch. NO gel or mousse. And I am very lazy but found the job not tedious at all. Fun!
Disappointed

Was exited to get this product. I find that it does not straighten hair as good as my other (wigo) straightener. I have fine highlighted hair - I just do not see what the deal is with this product. My tourmaline staightener leaves my hair silky and very straight - this one does not! Big waste of $$$$
OK product.

I just purchased this product for my 8 yr. old daughter and she has very thick curly hair. It works great from her roots to the middle of her hair but it has dried up her ends. Also the water reservoir is too small and you have to keep filling it up constantly or re-setting from low to high steam. If you have long curly hair like my daughter, it will take you about 1-2 hrs. just to do your hair. I also agree with another reviewer that it does make the hair frizzy. I don't believe this product was worth the $99.00 I paid in Feb.2009
Works really well

I've had my fair share of straighteners and this one really is quite effective. My sister got one for christmas and I was mortified when I saw that It was a conair, but was quite surprised when I tried it.
Conair usually makes cheap, waste of money straighteners but this one is just as efficient as the salon hair straighteners I've had. (Babyliss, solia)
The only downfall is that it's quite big, so not that great for shorter hair. It does curl the tips and sraighten wonderfully though.
I definetly recommend this one !
It's not that Great

I was extremely excited to get this straightener when I saw on TV. But when I finally got it, I was very disappointed. I tried straightening my hair one day and the straightener did NOT do a good job. My old straightener works way better than this. I would not recommend this. I love the CHI way more! It actually straightens your hair!
would not reccomand
