Mixing Ratio for Cream Color: - All of the Ian Zachary colors are mixed at a 1:1 ratio. i.e., 3.5 oz. of
any Ian Zachary Color Cream plus 3.5 oz. of Ian Zachary Developer.
Gray Hair Coverage: - In the majority of cases, a natural tone should be mixed into the tint
formula. Natural tones were created by hair color manufacturers to achieve
better gray hair coverage without tones.
- 0-30% gray hair: Natural tone optional
- 30%-60% gray hair: The formulation must contain at least 1/3 of a
natural tone
- 60%-90% gray hair: The formulation must contain at least 1/2 of a
natural tone
- When covering gray hair, always use the Ian Zachary 20 volume developer
- You have the option of reducing the amount of developer used, i.e. 3.5
oz. of any Ian Zachary Color Cream formulation plus 3 oz. of the Ian Zachary
20 volume developer
- After the tint application is applied, you may put a plastic bag over
the head, without disturbing the applied color, and then use a lukewarm
dryer for approximately 10 minutes. If the gray hair is extremely coarse and
resistant, then use the dryer for 15 minutes. This process intensifies the
action and penetration of the tint.
Developing Times: - Naturals/Ash/Golden/Tobacco/Red/Copper/Etc:
- 15-20 minutes with heat
- 30-40 minutes without heat
- High Lifts:
- 25-35 minutes with heat
- 50-60 minutes without heat
Developers: - 10 volume (3%): Used to deposit pigment without going lighter, both for
permanent and semi-permanent color
- 20 volume (6%): Same level or going one to two levels lighter
- 30 volume (9%): To lighten 2-3 levels and for use with high-lift shade
and bleach
- 40 volume (12%): Used with high-lift shades and bleach
- Please note that 40 volume developer works at a higher rate of speed
than the other developers. It helps the high-lift tints and/or bleach to
go lighter and faster. You must check the progress sooner and more often
to avoid damage to the hair.

and luster to the hair
- Ester Graso Cationics: equalizes porosity while strengtheningi the hair
shaft
- Keratin: a natural protein that softens and restructures the cuticle of
the hair
- Nano-Technology: allows deeper penetration of more hair color pigments
for 100% coverage of gray hair and richer, more vibrant color results
- Non-Ionic Tensioactives: active surface agents that emulsify the color,
allowing an even coverage over the hair
