Product Rating: 2 Disappointed......
Reviewer: Michelle from Chicago, IL USA  Tue Sep 22 2009

I was so excited to get a hold of my marcel so I could make sexy waves and loose curls. While initially my hair looked really cute, the curls dropped within a 30 minute window. I tried using a flexible hold hair spray....nothing helped. In the end, I'm returning it for the regular gold-plated professional marcel. Don't waste your time and money on this model--head straight for the original. I used the original model previously at a friend's house and the curl lasted for days.

Product Rating: 2 It is not that great...
Reviewer: Stefani from Des Moines, IA   Wed Aug 19 2009

I had high hope for this curling iron, but to be honest I like my old Clairol ceramic iron better. The curls do not stay as long, and if I am not careful I get crimps in my hair. The way I curl my hair is by starting at the middle of a section (not the bottom like old school methods) and roll it up and back towards my scalp. Then I proceed to twist and bump it out, while I work down the section. My stylist uses a Marcel (not sure what brand), and it always looks great. So I was disappointed that this marcel iron pretty much sucks.

Product Rating: 2 My thick hair didn't hold the curl.
Reviewer: m.c. from malibu, ca  Tue Jun 16 2009

I just got my 1.5" ceramic marcel today and tested it immediately. The reason I got it was to obtain the Victoria's Secret wavy look. I wasn't impressed. My hair is really thick so maybe that's the reason it didn't hold the curl well (I even set it with bobby pins while it cooled). I didn't really need the clip for the look I was going for - I simply wound my hair around the iron and clip together. But that caused a little crimp in the wave.
I think I'll return it and try the pricier Enzo Milano clipless curling iron.

For all the people that are stating this is the worst curling iron..hello..this is a PROFESSIONAL MARCEL IRON..translation..no spring clip or plastic tip. I have been using this iron for 2 years and have no complaints. I actually use this iron more than my stove marcels. I would not recommend this iron to the inexperienced "girl next door".
And for users who are complaining of burnt hair, common sense would tell you not to place the iron on the highest setting! You should not need extreme heat to curl hair. Please be reminded to use a thermal protectant when thermal styling.

One of the best irons hands down!

Product Rating: 5 Awesome Iron!
Reviewer: Lucy Lu!   Mon Jan 26 2009

I am a student in hair school and this is the iron I use. It is the most awesome iron ever. Doesn't cause heat damage, fabulous Marcel handle (which is saving my wrist, by the way)and best of all is the price! I've never had any trouble with this iron. :D

Reviewer: Grace from USA  Thu May 29 2008

I just got done using this item for the first time. It's amazing! I can't put my finger on exactly *why* this works so well. Is it the ceramic? Maybe the fact that it is a marcel? The fact that it heats up *so well* and STAYS heated the entire time? Whatever it is, I cut my curling time by *at least* half!
There is not a "cool tip" so you can grip the top of the iron.
And I'm sure that I'll get faster with practice. It's definitely not the same as a spring, but I seem to have more control over my curling.
But it's not impossible... right now I have a broken right hand, which is also the hand I use to curl my hair.
The ceramic really helped my hair feel healthier.

Styling tip: take a chunk of hair that you want to curl. Put the iron close to your scalp and drag it to the halfway point of the chunk. Curl it... therefore, only the first half (from your scalp to mid-chunk) curls. Then curl the second half, but don't touch your ends. Then just hit the heat on the ends for just a short time. This way, you aren't frying them!
It's a professional technique.
Don't forget to use hair products that work with heat tools!

Reviewer: lwest   Tue May 13 2008

this whole handle and barrel swivels so much it hurts my wrists and I simply cannot use it... also, it does not have a plastic part at the tip to hold onto to stabilize it... overall the worst curling iron I've ever used and I wish I could return it...

Product Rating: 1 Burned hair...
Reviewer: Rania from houston, TX  Mon Apr 21 2008

This is the worst curling iron I've ever used. After 7 months purchase, I still haven't used it much because it burns my hair. It fried it, not just burned. The first time I thought maybe it was still new and saw bits of crumbled burned hair with a terrible smell, but thought it may be new and I put it on too high of a heat. Since then, I have tried putting it on the lowest heat and it still burns my hair to a crisp. I can't use it anymore and can't return it because I've kept it too late. It's ridiculous. I'm wondering if its made for African/African-American hair? I am from the middle-east but my hair is like Caucasian hair. Don't buy it it you are Caucasian or you will have burned hair.

Product Rating: 5 Best curling iron I have had
Reviewer: Patty from Seattle   Fri Apr 11 2008

So far I love it. I have the 1" and the 2". As soon as the 3/4" barrel is back in stock I am going to purchase that as well. They do get very hot - so if you are not really good at using a curling iron I would not recommend it. You can burn yourself very easily.

This curling iron creates perfect curls every time in half the time of regular metal irons. I'm so glad I bought this product; it's excellent!!

If you are not used to using a Marcel curling iron, it will take a bit to get accustomed to. However, marcel curling irons are the best. Your curls will last!

Product Rating: 5 BEST I'VE EVER USED
Reviewer: Mary W. from Auburn, Al.  Mon Jan 14 2008

This marcel iron is A-1 EXCELLENT!!! I have used many curlers over the years but none that makes curls as smooth and silky as this one. It is a great buy and I highly recommend it. I would also like to see this available in the 5/8 inch size and I would buy it also.

a little hard to use at first but now i feel like a pro!
makes such pretty curls! and is easier to use than a spring curling iron once you get the hang of it!
so worth it!

Product Rating: 5 My hair never looked so good!

This is by far the best curling iron I've ever used. My hair is soft, shiney and stays that way for a full week. Wow. This is well worth the money.

Product Rating: 5 Excellent Curling Iron
Reviewer: Karen from Eden Prairie, MN  Fri Jul 27 2007

I have always been pretty inept with most curling irons. I would buy one every few years, then hate it and never use it - ending up giving it away.

This one, IMO, is much easier to use. It is very easy to roll it without tangling things up; the two handles can be manipulated and rolled through the hand very easily. The cord does not get curled up in the rolling. It is also easy to release the iron without mashing the hair or pulling it. Thanks to the level of heat, it is very quick to use.

I have kids, so I really appreciate the Folica heat proof mat that I can wrap it up with when I'm done (free with purchase of iron when I got it).

Reviewer: Kath from Minnesota  Tue Jul 17 2007

I am very satisfied with the Hot Tools Marcel Curling Iron. This is the first time I have owned a ceramic iron and I am very happy with the results. Folica made it easy to order and I received the product in a timely fashion. I wanted a one inch barrel and couldn't find one anywhere without a store ordering it and costing me more than I paid on this site. I like the temperature settings too. The free curling iron holder is not great. I have one already that I like much better, as it is more compact.

Product Rating: 5 Great curling iron
Reviewer: Pam Legall from Syracuse, NY  Tue May 08 2007

I had my previous curling iron for 20 years and would not part with it, until I purchased this one. This iron gets hot and works great for my African American hair and does not damage it.

Product Rating: 5 Great iron!
Reviewer: Julie   Fri Mar 23 2007

I really love this iron. It was relatively inexpensive and does a great job curling my hair. I cannot figure out how to get the Marcel handle to lock, but I haven't spent much time working with it either as I'm able to curl my hair with the handle in the swivel setting.
