Product Rating: 5 love it
Reviewer: Kayla from Ogden, Utah  Wed May 13 2009

I bought mine over 10 years ago and it just barely stopped working on me. So i bought another one :). I love it because its bigger than most flat irons, and if you have long, thick hair you would want to get this one.

Product Rating: 5 Great Flat Iron

I could not believe the bad reviews I read. I have african american hair and this is the best flat iron that I have used. I also have the Hot Tool ceramic iron, but I prefer the way this iron straightens my hair. I highly recommend it. You won't be sorry.

I've had this flat iron forever! I luv it! The only thing that I don't like is it's a little on the heavy side, but does a really nice job on my thin-medium hair. Way better than the ceramic hot tools version.

Product Rating: 1 eh..don't buy it!

i bought this flat iron for various reasons- 1. the price is SO CHEAP!!! 2. I looked at the pix on this review page and was totally convinced and 3. my other flat iron broke on me. I am SOOOOO PLEASED wit this flat iron and I recommend it 2 people with really thick hair.

Product Rating: 5 Great

This product is inexpensive and is the only hair straightener that works for me. There are different heating settings that you can choose from. I've tried about every straightener out there and none of them kept my hair straight and frizz free. They were also all ridiculously over priced. I highly suggest it. All of my friends use this straightener too.

Product Rating: 1 only good if.....
Reviewer: Nia from nj  Wed Nov 19 2008

I have thick fine curly long natural african american hair i get my hair done maybe once a month with a professinal ceramic iron such as fhi heat runway. my stylists told me not to use this or any iron thats not ceramic ion turmoline ect. i used to use this by my self for touch ups after i had gotten my hair done every couple of days. it would add to the straitening
BBBUUUTTT....
when i used this alone expecting it to do well..
IT WAS ABSOLUTLEY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it mightwork well on caucasian hair but definatley not on my type of hair
i would not recommend this iron
it fries ur hair and makes it smell burnt!
not good, it also dries it out and causes breakage ALOT!
so forget this iron and go buy your self a better one!yeah!

Product Rating: 5 FIXING TO BUY #4
Reviewer: Gail from Arkansas  Wed Oct 29 2008

I have only owned one flat iron and it is this one. I bought my first one eight years ago at a salon and paid $50 for it. It never let me down but after a couple of years, I needed a new one. I bought my second and third ones from Folica and I am now going to be buying my fourth one. I use this iron daily, I use it occasionally on my five year old daughter and my seventeen year old stepdaughter uses it along with her friends when they are with her. "WORKS GREAT"

Product Rating: 4 this iron is great!!!
Reviewer: amanda from wappingers falls, new york  Thu Oct 16 2008

my mother had purchesed me one about 5 years ago after trying everything i could to straighten my very long, extremly curly frizzy hair( even using a clothing iron!) it would take me 4hours to blowdry it straight and then it would still be crazy frizzy. i loved it so much because it got extremly hot and acctualy straightened my hair which was incredable and then unfortunatly i lent it to a friend and she broke it! sad day but she felt so bad she bought me a new one and ive had it for almost 3 years now and it still works like i just got it. as long as you keep the plates clean this will last a very long time. the only flaw this iron has is your hair sometimes gets caught at the ends of the plates, but usualy only when im russing and doing sections that are too big. but overall this product is great. next time i use it ill post before and afters..

Product Rating: 2 Works well at first, but doesn't last
Reviewer: Alice from Peoria, IL  Wed Oct 15 2008

I've been using this flat iron for the last 5 years, and have gone through four of them. My first one lasted two years, but since that first one the other thee haven't lasted very long at all. The last one I went through, after using it for about 8 months, started to only work if I positioned the cord a certain way, then not long after that it shorted out and exploded, throwing sparks everywhere! The one I'm currently using is now starting to only work if the cord is positioned a certain way... I'm scared every time I use it, and needless to say am looking into a different product. I say this product works very well when it is working, but I feel as though the quality of it has been going down exponentially the last few years, and I can no longer recommend this straightener.

Product Rating: 3 Good if you have healhty hair
Reviewer: Aurora from Florida  Mon Aug 18 2008

I was really worried about buying this, so I read up all these reviews and decided it was cheap enough. I was happy for a little bit at least...
It worked great the first and second use! I was so happy, it kept it straight and nice, I had beautiful hair... but unfortunately I don't have the best hair. By the third and fourth use my hair was fried, even on a lower setting and a spray in protector. My hair was damaged before, but its even worse off now. This straightener works amazing, but if you have hair thats on the verge of completely frying, or has a tendency to die... don't use this straightener. Trust me.

Product Rating: 5 It works.

It's one of the best inexpensive irons I've used. I never wanted to spend too much on an iron but I just couldn't find a reasonably priced one that would work well until a friend recommended this one. She had actually bought it from a salon for $25 at the time and always used that one. I could never find it in stores but finally i found this site which sells it for such an amazing price.

First of all, this iron works almost as well as the one my aunt bought for $100 and my hair is actually pretty frizzy now (after years of applying heat to it) and curly but it doesn't take too much effort to get my hair looking naturally straight and silky.

One problem I had with the remington wet to straight iron I used to use is that its got a teflon coat to make it nonstick. Once the teflon comes off though, the surface becomes almost abrasive and burns your hair making it smell bad. The coat on this iron is gold and it doesnt come off so it stays smooth doesnt make your hair smell bad/burnt.

Also I've used this iron on all hair types (doing hair for my cousins and aunts) and it works so it should work on anyone's hair as long as they know how to straighten their hair properly to begin with.

The only down side to this iron is that if you drop it on the floor you will most definetely break it since its made of plastic which is lightweight. The plastic on the side of mine snapped so that there was a gap in between and my hair kept getting caught in it until after a year it eventually came off altogether so i have to order another one. So try not to drop it on a hard floor. Other than that you should be fine, I mean I'm ordering the same iron again because at this price you can actually afford to replace it.

Product Rating: 1 awful!
Reviewer: Chloe from Portland, Oregon  Fri Aug 08 2008

This product was given to me by a friend a while ago, who's mother was a hair dresser/stylist, so of course i assumed the product would be top quality, (i was younger then, and i didnt have any knowledge about brands). my friend only used 'the best' products on her hair, so i was grateful for the hand-me-down, and i assumed it had been one of her regular styling tools. was i ever wrong. it barely gripped my hair (which shouldn't have been hard since my hair is neither very thin nor thick, or hard to deal with and i was putting in small sections at a time), and when it did grip my hair, ninety percent of the time it snagged it. i ended up having to go over it numerous amounts of time to have it come out only half way decent, and whatever straight-ness it did have, within four hours it was back to it's normal, wavy self. i confronted my friend about this, and she said that she wasnt serious about it being professional, and that she knew it was a bad straightener all along. we're no longer friends, and my old hot tools hair straighter is in the garbage. good riddence to the both of them.

Product Rating: 1 IT SUCKS
Reviewer: Ashley from florida  Mon Jul 21 2008

Not worth the money. It doesn't really work. You straighten your hair and it go back to normal after you step outside. I wouldn't recommend this.

Product Rating: 1 Not Good

It leaves my hair very unstraightened and then it quickly goes frizzy!!

Product Rating: 4 I love it works well
Reviewer: Maegan from Missouri  Thu Jun 05 2008

I have really thick hair and long hair and straightens well. I just got my hair cut to my shoulders and it still straightens my hair well. My sister has the same straightener and her hair is thin and kinky curls and it holds the straightness to her hair even in hot weather.

Product Rating: 3 good but it damages
Reviewer: Nicole from NY  Sun Jun 01 2008

this straightener lasted six years. and would have lasted longer if.. i didnt snap it in half lol. thats how bad it was. after six years it took like more time to heat up like 5 or 6 minutes and the hinge was getting loose so it wouldnt close right on top of the 2 irons.it made my hair shiny and super straight! but it did soooo much damage to my hair even with a heat protector since its only gold plated and gold plates are known for snagging and leaving hot spots. it doess snag owwie! but itss ok if your hair is so thick that it doesnt get damaged!

Product Rating: 4 love itt

Product Rating: 1 crappy
Reviewer: yvonne from Kentucky  Fri May 16 2008

I do not recommend this straightener to anyone my revolon I got from walmart worked better then this it took this thing like 30 minutes to heat up after I straightened a half of a section it was no longer warm. Junk.

Product Rating: 3 Good...for a non ceramic standard cheap iron
Reviewer: Daniella from NY  Thu May 15 2008

I got it five years ago...was the biggest hit with everyone I knew because it definitely was way better than all the drugstore irons like Conair. This was before ceramic irons were popular and known about well, at least in my crowd. It did do a decent job straightening especially with heat protectant/ironing spray and straightening shampoo and conditioner. But you basically get what you pay for-it gets very hot and is way better than Conair or other drugstore irons. But since it is non ceramic, it gives some frizz, plus I hear it ripping my hair as I iron. It needs more touch ups the next day than with a ceramic iron.In addition, it is 2 1/4 inch-monster size plates and also the iron is clunky and heavy...not exactly easy to hold. And my friends say that theirs broke. Mine still works after five years but that is probably because I didn't use it frequently. Bottom line is you get what you pay for-it is way more effective than Conair or the other cheap brands. But it doesn't work as well as a ceramic, plus has the cons of a non ceramic such as frizz, damage, less holding power and is kind of clunky. You get what you pay for.
