Reviewer: Sasha from Austin!!!!!!!  Tue Apr 05 2005

this straightner works pretty well i acutaully got it from someone and i was just boroing bc my conair *PEICE OF JUNK* straightner broke the night before and i had a contest for choir that day so i needed decent hair...so i kept forgetting to give it back so they just let me have it and im really not sure how long they had it before me or how often it was used but it still works semi well...a peice broke off and it gives me TERRIBLE split ends but it keeps my hair straight thru a little bit of humidity...and living in austin there is a lot of humidity so yeah...its alright and im getting a new one soon hopfully a Sedu or a HAI...

Product Rating: 5 Great flat iron - great price
Reviewer: KBB from Washington  Mon Apr 04 2005

I've been using this flat iron for years and can't live without it! My hair is naturally thick, course, colored and curly/frizzy and i live in a rainy/misty city. My hair dresser also uses this - she's Jamaican and is an expert on hard-to-straighten hair. The salon has many high-end ceramic irons but this is the one she always turns to because of the high heat and ability to straighten really course, curly hair. As someone mentioned, you should use a leave-in conditioner (but with my hair I need one regardless) This iron has worked incredibly well, and i've never had problems with it not working. The one i currently have is over 2 years old - probably closer to 3 and works like the day I bought it. I do take good care of it so as another reviewer mentioned, perhaps that's some cause to the short shelf life for others? Regardless, you can't go wrong with this product and the price is unbelievable!

My roommate has this incredible flat iron and I use it all the time! We both have thick curly hair that other flat irons can't handle. If you need something to straighten your hair so that it is silky smooth this is the perfect thing. This flat iron, unlike many that I have used, will not leave your hair frizzy and half wavey. This flat iron is the best thing ever! Can't live without it!

Product Rating: 1 Stops working fast - doesn't last
Reviewer: Max Magliaro   Sun Mar 27 2005

When it works, it works fine. It can straighten thick, long, wavy hair. BUT, dependability is a major problem.

My daughter had one of these. I fixed it numerous times. Finally, one of the heating elements burned out. It didn't last a year. Fortunatly, I'm handy with electronics, so I kept it alive THAT long!

Internally, the thing is a total piece of junk. The design is prone to broken wires and failed heating elements.
I'm amazed that some people have had this model for 2 years and it's still working.

Weakest link? The wiring goes through the hinge and the whole design depends on those wires flexing back and forth with the hinge. They are doomed to break, and they will.

Get something else.

Product Rating: 3 It's good, but there is better

I've had this hair straightener for two years and counting and it still works. I've read that some people's straighteners have broken within months, but maybe it's because of the way they take care of it. I've taken great care of it. And it still lasts. It works great, especially since I got a perm. When I first got my perm, it took forever since my curls were so tight, but after a while, it took less than 20 minutes to straighten. If you have really curly hair, I recommend something such as...Hai, Chi, Superstar is good too. This is a good hair straightener. A good money saver. Make sure that you buy some type of hair conditioner to put in before you straighten because this WILL DAMAGE YOUR HAIR if used WITHOUT a conditioner thing. The plate is NOT ceramic. Very very good straightener though. =)

Product Rating: 1 Just a word of advice... don't buy it!!!
Reviewer: Bri   Fri Mar 25 2005

I used this straighten four times, it worked great the first three times and then just stopped working while I was in the middle of straitening my hair. This product does do a good job or straitening your hair while it is working but it will only work for about a week.
PS. If yours breaks DON'T try and get a hold of the company to speak to a representative... you'll never get through. I spent three hours trying to get through; this is true for Folica as well as Hot Tools themselves.

I purchased this flatiron 3 years ago and have enjoyed getting compliments on my hair ever since. It is still in excellent condition. Always leaves my hair silky smooth, and never frizzy.

I have extremely thick curly hair and this flat iron makes it stick straight and thin! I love it! But it does break after about a year which is bad but they're cheap so you can just buy another one. :)

Product Rating: 3 Breaks after a year!
Reviewer: Montreal Chica   Fri Mar 18 2005

The good - it does an amazing super-job at straightening your hair; the fact that its bigger than most models means you get more hair done, quicker

The bad - its pretty big and heavy to hold and not that great to take on vacations; it breaks after about a year.

I love my Hot Tools Iron, along with any Hot Tools Product. I would recommend this product to anyone. The prices are great, and surely worth it. I have bought the infrared irons before, and had endless problems with them. I don't know if it was just a defect or not, but after buying 2 different irons, and using them just once, they stopped heating up. I was not to impressed with that, but this flat iron has been wonderful to me so far!

Reviewer: Rebecca from Virginia  Thu Mar 10 2005

well I bought this particular iron because my sister had one and I liked hers. I like it because it has different settings for different types of hair. It gets my hair straight (well straight enough because i dont use a hot enough temp. because i dont want to damage my hair) but anyways it jus makes my hair look good. I give it 5 stars :) wonderful product. Plus, folica.com delivered it SUPER fast to my house

Product Rating: 5 My First, (and Favorite) ,Flat Iron !
Reviewer: Nancy   Sat Mar 05 2005

I Got this flat iron about three years ago. It was the first one I used to straighten my hair myself. It works perfectly! It is wider than most more expensive irons and straightens my hair faster and with less frizz problemss than the ceramic irons I have tried. My husband has been a hair stylist for over twenty years, and he could not believe the results I got on my own hair with this! I have three other professional ceramic flat irons, but this is still my favorite one for quick, easy beautiful and long lasting results! I should note that I have very wavy hair naturally! A great product. I recommend it to anyone!

Product Rating: 3 Not too bad
Reviewer: Dina from Brooklyn NY  Thu Mar 03 2005

This was my first iron and I do have curly and long hair. It worked alright but not for my hair type. My friend has much softer hair and It works great on hers! Use it if you have normal type to straight hair. Its better than wasting your money on a more expensive one.

Product Rating: 2 uhh no
Reviewer: Jackie   Wed Mar 02 2005

I used to use and it would straighten my extremely thick hair, BUT it would take FOREVER! Of course, all straighteners would eventually straighten your hair, but this one took forever. Plus, it's made of metal, not ceramic, so it's more damaging. I've been using my Chi for two years now and it works wonders.
