my hair is very coarse and thick. it is naturally curly and very healthy.
my husband bought me this flatiron 4 years ago for $150, and it has been awesome. i have had absolutely NO problems with it. i have dropped it about 3-4 times, i wrap the cord, and i use product before and after;its awesome. i will say, from dropping it, recently, the plastic piece way at the top seperated from iron itself, but i push it back together, and it works just like it was brand new. no snagging, very smooth...but, since we paid $150, i cannot guarentee that this same flatiron for $25 is the same quality. plus mine is alot older. i only flatiron 2-3/week. you DO NOT need to wash your hair EVERY DAY!!! this will save on hair damage. talk to your stylist. she/he will know what is good out there. its their job. :)
Works great for the price!!!

I am a college student, and although I would love to shell out money for a high end straightener, it's just not possible. I have used this straightener for 5 years now and although they burn out after about 2 or so years, for 24.99, hell, I'll take it. The gold plates aren't the healthiest for your hair, but if you use a product to protect your hair from the heat, it'll be fine. I get comments on how beautiful my hair is, and I have straightened it almost every other day for 5 years, so it's not THAT damaging. Great product for the money!!!!!!!
I love it!!!

This straightening iron gets far to hot. About a month after I began to use it my iron began to melt itself. The plates got to such a tempurature that the plastic surrounding them began to melt. Everytime I would straighten the center of the plastic surrounding the plates would turn into melted plastic mush. I relized it was probably too dangerous to continue using, so I just discontinued used of this iron. I would really not recomend this to anyone. I purchased it for 70.00 in Canada and this is money i will never get back.

i have very very VERY thick hair...and i tried this one out...it worked pretty great...in the beginning....after a while it had heating problems and soon it stopped heating in the middle of straightening my hair....its not the greatest..
Use this if you want to take a really long time to do your hair

I think I have an older model of this straightener because it only has two settings: High and Low. The "high" setting does not stay hot long enough to straighten multiple layers of hair, so you have to wait around awhile for it to produce more heat. The one good thing is that it does not pull or snag my hair, unlike the Wigo straightener that I also have. I am looking to invest in a better-quality flat iron than these two. The HotTools is not worth buying.
GREAT... the first time

I used this product about three times... the first time it was great and the second time burned my hair so bad... i thought that i t might have been because I wasnt using the right type of hair product (heat proctectant) but it just gets and stays so hot no matter what number i put it on. Burns my hair and messes up my ends.
These are the best!!!!!!!!

I love these flat iron. They work so good on my hair. I have thick hair, but when I finish my hair looks kinda thin. I recommend these to anyone. A friend of mine had them. So happen, they broke, she was gonna throw them away, but since they was so good I use them until they fell too pieces. I thought I was gonna find another pair like them. Unfortunately, I did!!

This is a cheap tool and you get what you pay for. It takes too long to heat, and doesn't keep it's heat so you almost have to wait in between uses for it to be effective. My hair is very curly, and I had to blowdry my hair, and then go over it with this iron at least 3 or 4 times to get it "decent" looking. This doesn't get hot enough for girls with "wild hair!" My hair was NOT shinny, and it reverted back with in hours.
The tool itself is very flimsy and plastic. In the wrong hands it could also break off your hair, if keep going over the same piece desperate to get it straight. Trust my advice and go with a professional grade, ionized iron....The Sedu, Solia, Chi....anything. You hair is an investment so dont be cheap! Hot toolz is a cheap brand and a joke in the world of hair styling.
its ok

This iron does the job of straightening my hair, but the design is not a very comfortable one. Also, it snaggs my hair out with every run through (OUCH!!). The only great thing about this product is the price.

Tried everything, even chemically straightened my hair. It was completely ruined! This iron makes it sleek and shiny again (although the damage from chemical is still there). Better than the 200$ ones on the market now.

at first i was amazed at how well it worked! then the stupid thing BROKE, so i bought the same one (don't ask why). well one night i was watching the maxiglide show on shop@home and i started straightening my hair well watching it. Compared to the other straightner MINE SUCKED! it takes me 645736 strokes to get my hair straight, it just flattens it. this straighteners average for wavy hair or touchups, not for daily use and extremely narly hair!
Does what it's supposed to

I got this flat iron for christmas and was very happy. I had been using flat irons like conair and revlon, which are completly horrible. I have have very long, thick and curly hair. When i used it it got really straight, but it was still a little thick. But overall i was pleased with it. All of my friends borrowed it. It got damaged and burnt. I borrowed my friend's Chi and i saw what i was missing. This flat iron is good but it didn't get my roots very well and the cord is heavy and not very manageable. I am now seeking a chi or something like it.

I've had this straightener for about a year and a half. I've used it pretty much every day since then so I guess that I got a pretty good run out of it for the price that I paid. My boyfriend says that using it kills my hair, but I find that if I don't use it, my hair looks more damaged. I can see what he means though. It really dries my hair out. Using it is better that going without though I guess. It's like an addiction that nobody really understands :P I just bought a new flat iron though (the HAI convertable) which I havent yet received, but it has ceramic plates which should prove to be less damaging.
Anyway, for about a month or so, I've noticed that the light would turn off. I had to hold the wire a specific way to get the plates to heat. Then yesterday (while I was using it), I saw that the wire was splitting so that the inside was exposed. Now, I'm not going to wholly attribute this to the company or to shoddy craftsmanship. Maybe this happened because I accidentally twisted it or something too many times. But thicker wires or something might be benefecial. I don't quite know about the mechanics, but I'm sure there's a way to prevent exposed wires. Anyway, I only noticed said wires because there were sparks coming from them. I'm not saying that this will happen to everyone who purchases this product, but it might be something to look out for and think about. Ceramic is probably the way to go anyway.
ok..till

I bought this flat iron for myself back when i was a senior in highschool. i was amazed at how straight it got my hair at first but as i used it, it started to cause damage. i lost my color on the ends, my hair was split all the way up, and it was so dry that i could easily snap it even after deep conditioning. i tried to lower the temperature but that only caused my hair to turn extremely frizzy. after a while, the iron would only straighten if i had it hot enough to make me smell like burnt hair up to the next morning after straightning. i've had this flat iron for years and im not impressed with it at all
Awesome
