Well, I'm African American and I usually go to the salon to get my hair chemically straightened. I just wanted something inexpensive to straighten out any frizzies in case of a humid day. This straightener is decent for the money, but I understand when people say that the straightness doesn't last. Hot Tools straightener definitely doesn't make my hair the straightest it can be--and when I wash my hair, it feels kind of crispy before I shampoo it (which freaks me out). Whatever, now that I'm in college and away from my hairdresser, I'm pulling out the bucks for a hardier, more efficient straightener. (I'm waiting for my Sedu as I type this.)
If you already have manageable hair that you have time to take care of, get this straightener. But if your hair is insubordinate and coarse like mine, run away and invest in a different straightener.

i got it one year ago and it worked pretty good. it strightened my hair but it didnt always stay. some times it smelt like it burnt it but other than it wroked well.
untill the other day when i tried to strighten my hair and it jsut broke in half at the hinges. my sister has the same one and hes has started to stop working as well and now heat up or get as hot as it use to, but she does forget to turn it off a lot so it stays on all day.
its okay

My friend recommended for me to buy this straightner so I did. I've had it for about a year now and it works okay. It gets the job done (i have thick medium length hair)and comes out pretty staight but once humidity hits my hair becomes a giant ball of frizz! This straightner is good for temporary use but if you want something to last you a long time, dont buy this one.
Its alright!

Its alright! I just bought this one as an emergency. It doesnt really straighten your hair. I have wavy hair and I have to run thru it like 3xs and in the highest setting just to get it the way I want. I want to get rid of it already!
dissapointed

This straightener does NOT work on my hair. I have naturally curly hair, and it takes 10+ minutes JUST to straighten my bangs; sad i know!! DO NOT BUY IT

iv had this straightener for about a year now and i really cant complain.its a good straightener that heats up fats and straightens well, ut idont think its for my hari type.I have verrry curly and thick hair and although it straightens it well, it takes a very long time and i have to go over each strand many tymes until i'm satisfied. i would recomend this straightener to people with wavy or semi straight hair. for them this straightener would work like a charm
works great

I actually have had this straightener for 2 days, it works great! My mom bought it for me at a salon for $40.00 dollars. It has 10 settings and its amazing. It doesn't snag your hair and heats up quickly. My hair hair stays strait even if I sleep at night with a pony tail. If you have thick wavy/curly hair don't buy this. This is perfect for my wavy hair. I guess it depends on your hair type.
Does its job, I love it.

I always thought this was a great iron until I read these reviews. I've had mine for about 2-3 years now and it's still working just as well as the day I bought it. Maybe I have better results because I blow dry my hair first, but the iron takes away all the frizz and makes it sleek and smooth and it LASTS. I don't regret this purchase at all.

I've had the iron for about a year. It worked OK.. nothing fantastic... but it was fine for what i needed it for. Then one day a couple weeks ago I started smelling a horrible plastic burning smell. turns out the on-off mechanism has started to melt from the inside. The switch is now fused to the on position... not sure how safe that is. They say you get what you paid for.. well I paid quite a bit for this and i'm pretty upset. I'll be tossing this one and moving up to a CHI...
Worst ever. Don't buy

I bought this one TWICE!! The first time it just wouldn't heat up and that one was broken. Then i bought the SAME one again and at first it was amazing but then it wouldn't straighten my hair as well and plus the outside of it gets SOOOOO HOT that it burns my hand some times.
I don't recommed this one.

I stole this straightener from my boyfriend's little brother (weird, I know, when do boys ever straighten their hair) well before I had this Target Reminton wet to dry straightener and it smelled like burnt hair and generally sucked... But this straightener is like heaven for my hair, it does its job and does it well, I love it and will never give it back!

you get what you pay for. Seriously. Are you the girl looking for a flat iron? Confused, don't know what to trust? Had one of those 29.95 ones from Target and are totally unhappy with.. so you deceid to do some research.. well, that was me too... my neighbor has one of those $200 ones, so I tried it and was flabergasted with the pin straight results, so here I was looking online, impatient and a bit uneased by the cost of the high price dones, I went to a bueaty supply store and bought this for $70.. yep ladies... sorry to tell you DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY, THIS THING SUCKS!!!
Just invest in the expensive one.. it's totally worth it.
I am bringing mine back and am getting the one that is voted number one for like $125...
this sucks

I am surprised at all of the negative reviews. I purchased this product about six month ago, use it almost every day and it works great. It is the best Ceramic Flat Iron that I have ever used. My hair is perfectly straight and stays that way until I wash it again. I will replace it soon because some of the paint has come off of the ceramic plate. BUT, it still works great!
i guess im not the only one...stupid thing wont work!

ahhh it doesnt work! IT DOESNT HEAT UP
i have fairly thin/average hair, but a lot of it.
and my hair is straight! I've only had this straightener for a little over 3 months, and it worked ok for a while, but it doesnt get rid of frizz, and just yesterday, it wouldnt heat up!
my hair is completely straight but when it rains, my bangs get waivy. So i straighten them only a few time a month.
this flat iron is so cheaply made. i suggest you find another one
DON'T BUY!!!

okay.. so i got this straightener a while ago and it worked reallly well for like the first couple months .. but then it would never heat up. i realized one of the plates wouldnt even heat up at all ! it was broken and i hadnt even had it for a full year. i was furious with the results.. DO NOT GET THIS STRAIGHTENER ! my hair is wavy and wen i was done in a matter of an one hour it was still wavy after using it .. my hair normally takes 10 min to straighten with this it took hours.. do your self a favor and dont buy it!
