I bought this flat iron about 5 months ago. After 3 days, it died and would no longer heat up. I took the flat iron back to the retail store where I purchased it and they replaced it. The sales girl at the store told me that they constantly had problems with the Hot Tools straighteners not heating up (this is not obvious to me after reading several reviews). The store promptly replaced the broken flat iron but now just a few months later it has died. Do not purchase this flat iron unless you enjoy wasting $60 every few months for a new one.

I have had three of these in the past two years, and while they do an excellent job at making my really long, curly hair stick-straight without overdrying, they're really not long lasting. all three of the ones i have had have just died, first one side and then the other. I always get them because they are cheap and straighten well, but i've only had my current one for four months and it died on me today. so now ii'm thinking of getting a sedu, they're expensive but they seem worth the money.
overall these are great for short term or as a backup, but not a long term or full time use straightener.
What happened?!!

It worked well o my daughter and I's hair for 3 months and then one day it jsut would not heat up anymore. I payed $65 dollars for it so I was very dissapointed. I was going to send it back but looking at some of the reviews, it might not even be worth the time.....waste of money!

I got this flat iron as a Christmas gift last year and LOVED it. I have very thick, curly hair and it straightened my hair great. However, in February, the wiring in the cord shorted out and melted a hole in the cord with a firey blast. This was a little scary, so I returned the product to Helen of Troy and they sent me a new one. A couple of weeks ago, it quit heating up and then the wiring blew a hole in the cord AGAIN. There is obviously a defect in the wiring of this product, so I would not buy it again. Helen of Troy said that if I returned it, they would replace it with a Wigo 2 1/4" ceramic flat iron, although after reading the reviews for that product, it sounds like I'm in for the same type of problems. At least the Wigo has a 3 year warranty. I have had a Hot Tools gold plated flat iron for about 5 years, and it still works great. I really cannot recommend this product as a long lasting styling tool. It just is not well made.

iv'e had mine for months and its been working great! it heats up in seconds and the 3 inch plates make it fast and easy and makes your hair shiny!...its is my second one however i dropped the first one so its probaly the reason it broke. YOu just have to take care of it and it'll work great!

ive had my iron for about a year now and i have not had any problems.it still heats up fine, the 3" plates are great for my long hair and i (and my friends who have borrowed it) dont find that it snags my hair at all, and it definitely makes my hair shinier than the non ceramic ones.

I have purchased several hot tool flat irons and they have all died. Either bad wiring or just early burn out. Don't but this. Spend a little more for better quality.

I just started looking for a replacement for mine when I read the reviews that others had the same complaint. I was told this is not like the cheap ones. Well, it may cost more but the quality isn't there. It died after a few months. I expected more.

I have purchased several of these for personal & gifts. ALL of them have died. One after 2 weeks, most lasted about 3-5 months then failed.
Even the metal plate iron from HOT TOOLS fail.
I would highly suggest people to research other brands & not buy HOT TOOLS.
Helen Of Troy Customer Service was not helpful to resolve this problem.

I have purchased not one but TWO hot tools products. I should have learned my lesson the first time. I wasn't expecting my iron to go out on me within 3 weeks. THEN i took it back and got the same thing and it went out on me in 2 months. This is too much money to spend on a not so great iron to begin with... Then one that wont even last.. Don't waste your money. Wigo is ok. I am fixing to try sedu though. hopefully it's better!
