Product Rating: 4 great for a while
Reviewer: Patatie from chino hills, ca  Thu Jan 31 2008

I love, love this iron but just like the other emails its almost a disposal one. I have bought 3 and in need of my fourth one. My cord just gives out. I struggle with it every morning and only pray that it doesn't give out on me because I would just have to call in sick....

Product Rating: 3 So.....
Reviewer: bob from canada  Sun Oct 14 2007

When my friend first gave me this straightener i was soooo happy!!!

i works sooo good and doesnt fry your hair as quickly as other straighteners do. I had been using it for a while when i woke up one morning and one side was dead!!
after reading the other reviews, i wouldn't recommend this straightener because it seems to die rather quickly.

Product Rating: 3 The Poodle Look...
Reviewer: P Hernandez from Dallas, Texas  Fri Aug 24 2007

This is my 3rd straighter. They usually last about a year. I love the quality for the price, but the durability, it's not so good. I have very wavy hair that I usually wash at night, when I wake up it's dry, but as it dries it does whatever it wants. A couple of mornings ago, I was ready to straighten my hair and turned on the flat iron. A few minutes later I noticed it was still cold. I could hear some noise coming from the connection of the cable to the flat iron (I figured the cables are broken). I have never folded the cable in any way, it's ALWAYS been on my bathroom counter, so I don't understand WHY it broke. The wear/tear it's the regular use anyone gives it. I tell you, I looked like a poodle that day and it wasn't pretty!! I'm disappointed with the durability and makes me think I should buy a more expensive one if it lasts longer.

Product Rating: 4 Left Stranded...
Reviewer: PH from Dallas, Texas  Wed Aug 22 2007

I love this flat iron. The price you pay for the quality of the product is AWESOME! This is the second one I buy and now I'm hesitant to buy another one. Like I said, the product is amazing, but they just stop working without cause. I had my second one for about 1 year and just a couple of days ago, I plugged it in, came back a few minutes later and noticed that it was still cold. I plugged/unplugged over and over and noticed that the darn thing was not working anymore. I was left stranded and went to work looking like a poodle:) The product works, I just wish it would last longer.

Product Rating: 3 Nice for long hair
Reviewer: Sasha   Thu Aug 16 2007

I got this flat iron a couple weeks after I cut my hair kind of short and when I ordered it I didn't even stop to think that it was wider than any other I had. It works really good on the top layers of my hair but to get the under layers is kind of hard to do without feeling some nice heat. I would say it is totally amazing if my hair was long. It heats up very fast and it doesn't fry your hair because you can control the temp. I would definitely recommend it for anyone, even if you have shorter hair.

Product Rating: 4 AS GOOD AS THE CHI
Reviewer: Kelly from New Jersey  Thu Jul 19 2007

A YEAR AGO I PURCHASED THE CHI FOR DOUBLED THE PRICE OF THE HOT TOOL STRAIGHTNER.......
HOT TOOLS DOES THE SAME JOB IF NOT BETTER. VERY HAPPY, I WOULD PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. HOPEFULLY IT'S LAST LONGER THEN A YEAR LIKE THE CHI DID.

Product Rating: 4 Good, but not so good.
Reviewer: Jessi   Thu May 03 2007

This straightener is amazing. i love it. but there is a major flaw to it. i have gone through two, because they stop heating up all the way after about a year. i am now buying a third. they are worth buying one every year though, becau they are so great.

Product Rating: 5 No complaints
Reviewer: Kristal   Fri Oct 20 2006

I just recently purchased this 3" straigtener. I'm reading everyone's complaints about Hot Tools dying after a few days or months. I have a Hot Tools Gold plated straigtener that I use religiously. I have thick, curly hair and its great. I've had it for about 6 or 7 years and have yet to have a problem. I figured I'd upgrade to ceramic. No matter what the product, there is always going to be people complaining, usually a product breaks or doesn't work properly because of user negligence. I've used Hot Tools for years and have yet to have a problem so IN MY OPINION, they have great products worth the cost.

Its a little hard to handle. It heats up pretty good but i wouldnt recommend it.

Product Rating: 1 not worth it
Reviewer: Veronikah from Arizona  Thu Oct 05 2006

Times were hard so i decided to buy a cheap iron, bad idea!!! i did at one time like the product, it worked pretty well and was fast and easy, but less than a month after i got it, the on and off switch wouldnt work, it bacame loose and wouldnt turn on. I recently saved up and bought the 2" CHI turbo, and i love it so far, the results are much better, i shouldve just saved up in the first place, i wouldnt of lost out on the money i spent on this.

Product Rating: 5 Great Iron
Reviewer: Elana from Philadelphia, PA  Sat Jul 22 2006

This iron is great..I have really thick, extremely curly hair that it will straighten very well. All of these stories about it stopping heating up are probably true, since I actually got this one sent to me by the company as a replacement for my similar Helen of Troy model straightener that had a problem heating up. All of this complaining about paying 50-60 dollars every few months for a straightener is unnecessary since Helen of Troy( hot tools parent company will replace your straightener for free if it is under a year old. If not(like mine was) it only cost me about 20 dollars including shipping them the broken iron to replace it. I'd really recommend this iron fully even if it has problems, since it works teriffically(trust me, i've tried A LOT of hair irons)and if ( I haven't had too many) you have a problem, the company has great service that will replace your iron at a low cost(cheaper than going to the store and just buying a new one(and it didn't take that long either).

Product Rating: 1 Broken Iron!
Reviewer: Disappointed Customer   Fri Jul 14 2006

I've had my iron for about 6 months and have only used it less than 10 times. It always snagged my hair and the handle got too hot. Then one day I plugged it in and it stopped heating up. I used to use the gold plated hot tools, and that worked better than this one and lasted longer too. But today I purchased a Sedu 1.5 inch ceramin tourmaline flat iron and I'm very excited to use it! I've read the reviews about the Sedu, and the ratings were very high.

Product Rating: 2 Burnt Out
Reviewer: Alici from Orlando, Fl  Thu Jun 22 2006

I had this flat iron for 2 months, and one day it just died and burnt out. Also if you leave it on your carpet for more than 10 minutes, it oover heats and burns the carpet.

Product Rating: 3 Ew
Reviewer: Amber from Wisconsin  Fri Jun 09 2006

I had a 1 1/2 inch one before and it broke while I was on vacation in Europe. I'm pretty sure it's because I used it with a power adapter, but still. :[
I bought the 3 inch Hot Tools straightener and it works fine and it only takes me about 15 minutes to straighten my hair, but sometimes my hair gets caught near the handle or on the edges and it hurts.
Im thinking of buying a new flat iron since I've read all of these bad reviews.

Product Rating: 4 3 years.....
Reviewer: anonymous from CT  Tue May 16 2006

As you guessed I had mine for three years!! It worked great and I used it everyday. It one of the best products that I've bought, I swear by this brand. It was recomended from the women up the street and Hot Tools is the first and last brand I'll use. Even my hair dresser uses ONLY Hot Tools. It's not an over priced brand in fact it's fairly reasonable if anything the price should be high because of the quality.

Product Rating: 1 Worked 3 Months!!
Reviewer: Jen from California  Wed Apr 26 2006

I know I am not the only person who is tired of buying a straightener that works for only 3 months!!!! I bought this stupid thing for 70 dollars, and within 3 months it was broken and doesn't heat up. What in the heck...HOT TOOLS IS A RIP OFF...THEY MAKE CRAPPY PRODUCTS, AND YOU ARE LUCKY IF YOU GET A STRAIGHTENER FROM THEM THAT WORKS!

Product Rating: 5 Good straightener!
Reviewer: D.   Thu Mar 30 2006

This straightener works 10,000 times better than any straightener that I have ever used before. They do stop heating up if you're not careful. I've had the same one for a year and a half now, and it's still working fine.

Product Rating: 2 Worked for awhile
Reviewer: Stella from Bardstown, Ky  Tue Mar 21 2006

This was the best hot iron I had ever had for 3 months. I could straighten my hair w/o putting it into layers. Then after 3mo. one side went dead. I thought it was my plug in shorting out. Then I tried another. I don't have a reciept and after reading the other reviews I'm not going to bother getting a new one.

Product Rating: 1 Waste of Money
Reviewer: Annabelle from Chicago, IL  Tue Feb 21 2006

I purchased this product and within a week I would plug it in and the plates would not heat up. I assumed it was a product malfunction and took it back to the store. I got a replacement. Then four months later, the product did the same thing. Straightening Irons should last at LEAST a year and certianly more than a few months. I would not purchase this item-- it is too expensive to risk this happening to you.

Product Rating: 2 Well...
Reviewer: Jane   Sat Jan 21 2006

So about a year ago i baught the 3 inch straitener from hot tools. It worked wonderfuly. I had other straiteners before, that never worked as well as this one. But just a few weeks ago it just stoped heating on one side. so i went out and got a new one but this time a 2inch. i felt so wasteful for spending all the money when i know it will end up not working again. But i have Super super think hair and its really curley and frizy so i would recomoend this straitener if u feel like spening the money each month to buy a new one.
