Not excellent, not horrible

I'm also happen to be in 8th grade. At first, I had one of those metal conair straighteners. Honesty, my only problem with it was it was time comsuming and didn't get far into the roots, but my hair looked really shiny and soft! So eventually I got this one, the first time I used it I thought it was amazing in comparison to the conair. I straighten my hair about once a week, and as time went on (about 5 months) the results weren't as good, and my ends were getting crisp. The ceramic coating started chipping off and it ends up ruining and damaging your hair. I have pretty thick curly hair, I would recommend this for someone with just a little bit of wave to his or her hair, not curly and straightens occassionally. I'm now thinking of getting either a sedu or solia, possibly chi.
Great at first... Poor as it ages

I had gotten this straightener in late December. It worked Excellent at first. 5 months later.. the purple paint is literally melting with big blotches of melted paint. The heat is literally burning the black plastic around the handle leaving these ugly white streaks and scrapes from the heat. It now is leaving me to go over my hair 4 to 5 times to get it completely straight. It doesnt take away frizz and my hair still does get fly-aways. At first is was excellent. If you were to use this product everyday , you would notice how cheaply it is made. If you were to buy this , i majorly suggest using it maybe 2 times a month or not too long. I wouldnt suggest everyday. I am planning to buy a Solia Profession Ceramic Flat Iron in the summer. Im currently in 8th grade and after june 14th when we get out of school. Im DEFINATELY throwing this thing in the trasher. It is only worth it if you are gonna keep it for 2 months. TRUST me, if you just bought this thing... you will absolutely love it, but its annoying also how it pulls your hair out! leaves your hair dry the next day... the straightness does not stay. its better then Conair but im just saying keep it if you dont plan to use it too much.
Does a great job at first....

I LOVED it when I first got it. No frizzies, stick board straight and made hair silky smooth. In a little less than a year though, as the other ladies have stated, the plates don't touch anymore... it does pull your hair...and the cord gets tangled, as it is not a swivel cord. It got to be TOO much work to straighten. Worth forty dollars, but I think I might try something better.
Don't bother

One of the worst flat irons I've ever used. #1 problem is that the plates do not touch (lay flat against eachother) when the iron is closed for straightening. I don't recommend this iron. Spend the extra money and buy something better. Just bought a HAI which I absolutely love!!

Maybe all you pl who 's straightener is falling apart didnt take care of it. Or you have horrible unruly hair. I have thick wavy hair and it works for me so ..but i admit that it does pullout hair sometimes..but my friend has a chi and it pulls out my hair!
It pulled out my hair!

This iron is okay. . .for the price. My hair kept getting caught like others have said. It pulled out A LOT of my hair. I'm going to return it and buy the Solia. If this is the only one you can afford, go for it. Just be VERY careful that your hair doesn't get stuck. The straightening power is not that great. My hair was still frizzy.

My hair is thick, curly/wavy and quite frizzy and fluffy. Even without straightening balms and anti-frizz products, it straightened my hair and took away most fly aways and frizz. Using it with products gave me pretty good results (admittedly I need more practice). Some hair may get caught between the plates but it hasn't been to much of a problem for me. The product didn't knock my socks off, but it's a good deal especially for beginners.
Very good while it lasts

This is definitly worth buying. It's a great iron for 40 dollars. It lasted me for 2 years. Now i'm disappointed in it though, the ceramic coating started chipping about 3 months ago and now it doesn't heat up at much as it used to and the plates dont close together tightly. So it really is worth the money it lasts a pretty long time, but i dont think i'd buy another. It's the best iron i think you could possibly get for this price though.
works well but catches hair

this iron works very well and quickly. the size is right and it is very comfortable... my hair is done in 10 minutes easy. problem is that it catches hair badly. and not just a strand... it will catch a medium sized chunk so that you can hold your hair and hang the iron off of it. you learn to use it so this doesnt happen though after like 2 uses and it gets much better. that occasional catch remains very distressing though

This is the absolute best flat iron I have ever used! I am an african-american woman with thick corse hair. This flat iron has produced wonders on my hair. It really does straighten the hair right down to the root allowing you really make it through the countdown days to your next relaxer. It takes no time at all to curl my hair. The temperature this thing reaches is unreal. It really does add shine to the hair and everything. This is a magnificent product. So magnificent, I went out and purchased two of them! Great job Hot Tools!! Keep more of these types of products coming.
its ok..but can only work up to ...say 2 months!

this straightener worked fantastic for the first month! but when it came until...I say about 4 months later, the purple stuff came off and it was falling apart! i was devasted because i thought this hot tools ceramic straightener would work for a long time!! but i guess not. i advice you: you should only use this straightener as a secong apprentice straightener! you should only use this like once a month. but this straightener should only be used if you want it for like 2 months....
Ceramic coating chips off after a year

This flat iron worked at the beginning --- it did straighten my hair. But I agree with the other reviewers, the design is such that it pulls your hair every time you use it. I've had mine for a year. On the 8th month, the ceramic coating started to chip off and by it's first year anniversary, I am left with a flat iron with hardly any ceramic coating left. I thought the ceramic plates were real ceramic plates, not so.... they're just ceramic or smooth plastic coating. I just got a new Solia 1" and so far, it's way better than Hot tools and Babybliss..... and the ceramic plates seem to be made of hard ceramics.... we'll see after a year

This straightener is good for maybe a year. Then, it starts to break at the top of the cord where it connects to the actual straightener. Plus the plates don't close together tight after continued use. No wonder it's only a year warranty because it falls apart after that!!
Straight and great!

I love this straightener. I have had it for three years and i have never found a product that makes my hair so smooth. I had a ConAir and it was awful, it made my hair frizzy and did not straighten well at all. The ceramic straightens on contact. It gets hot immediately (sometimes too hot but that is all in the users discrepency on how hot to put the setting). I have used it on my friends and i have people come over just to use it. It is definately worth what you pay and its not too stiff.. if you have a problem with it and would like to replace it, do it within the warantee and then there is no problem. I love it and wouldnt switch to anything else.

My best friend Jessica has this flat iron. IT SUCKS! It doesn't straighten my hair at all! After going over my hair about 10 times, it still wasn't straight! And my hair is easy to flat iron! It's very fine! This flat iron's heat capacity doesn't get hot enough to actually straighten any hair. I also did not like the design of it. The plates are just cheap plastic and only create static because of it! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

This is the third Hot Tools flat iron I've purchased in 4 years. After a little under a year, it "burnt out" it just plain does not heat up anymore. I think I am done with this brand, especially this model, as the hinges are very close to the plates and pull on hair. I thought I was the only one, but not according to some other reviews. It is not worth replacing every year I've realized. The price of three of these could buy me an amazing one that would last for years. I am done with Hot Tools.

I have exremely thick and curly hair! I really wanted a good flat iron and this one was really great. I straighten my hard almost every day and i love this iron. My only complaint is that after a year the plates were sratched and it's performance dropped. I dont know if this is a result of me using it so much or what... But i got this product at a hair dressers and i recommend it for anyone who wants straight silky hair fast, but for someone planning to use it every day might want to reconsider.
It works really well....
