i have used this flat iron for several months because i got it as a present. it seemed to be working fine but as i kept using it, the purple iron part the ceramic chipped.
and now... the chipped part is big as your thumb so i had to throw it out.... and this flat iron takes long time to do the hair. i would not recommend this.
No thank you.

This is by far my least favorite of all irons I have owned(many). Not only does it not straighten my curly hair, it leaves it frizzy. When used on a women with straight hair it also caused frizz. It eventually caught hairs in its plates and proceeded to rip or break them. I threw it out 6 months later to rid my cabinet of it. It wasn't worth passing on to a client.

My hairdresser uses this flat iron so I decided to buy one. I took swimming lessons this summer and had to go without a relaxer for two months, when I usually get a relaxer every month. This flat iron was great it was as if I had a relaxer. Really worth the money.
Strengths and Weaknesses

I purchased this flatiron less than a year ago, and when I got it, I was thrilled! It straightened better than any other one I'd ever tried. It left my hair very silky. But the more I used it, the worse it got. Like super-speed entropy, the purple coating on the plates was peeling, my hair was getting caught in the clamps, and it became harder to keep my hair straight. I now have to use straightening shampoo, conditioner, and lotion to keep my hair straight through the school day.
I have thick, curly hair, so I assume that I put alot of stress on my straightener. My sister uses this flatiron, too, but hers is still almost like-new. She has thin, nearly straight hair anyway, though.
I would recommend this straightener to people with thin to average, straight to slightly curled hair. For people with these hair types, this straightener is great, and it's much cheaper than other flatirons. But in general, this is not my favorite straightener.

I use my iron everyday before school and when I get home in the afternoons my hair is still straight even after a humid day. I can't imagine life with out it. My hair is naturally frizzy and curly, and after using the iron in the mornings you can't even tell my hair has one ounce of curl to it.
Pretty Good

This was one of my first hair straighteners. I actually had it for the first time, and then it just got worn out and the pruple paint started to chip off. So I bought another one && I am now on the search for a different style.
Don't get me wrong, this straightener worked very good. It kept my hair straight, and it didn't make it unbelievably dry. But my biggest problem is that my hair would not stay straight. It would wave WAY too fast. Within twenty minutes, depending on the weather conditions, my hair had some wave back in it. And one other thing is that the plates did NOT last. the paint chipped off. But the iron still does work.
I have pretty thick hair, and I need an iron that will get my hair straight, and KEEP it that way.
But overall, this was a good iron. It just didnt keep my hair as straight as I wanted it.

Basically this is a terrible straightener if you have thick, wavy hair. It has a gross smell, the paint chips off, your hair gets stuck in the cracks of the iron, and it does not straighten your hair for very long at all!!! I wouldnt recomend this product to anyone.
Works perfectly well. Fulfills purpose.

Ive had this iron for over 2 years and it still works perfectly well. I do not straighten my hair everyday, probably use it twice a week only but it leaves it perfectly straight and silky (I have curly frizzy hair). I can flip my ends if I want to. The only but I can think of is that sometimes hair does get trapped in the cracks so you might pull or tear it, although that happens with almost all the flat irons I´ve used and you do need a special mat to place it or it will burn your carpet.

this straightener is horrible!!! your hair gets stuck in the cracks, damages ur hair w/o straightening it, and by some slim chance it does straighten your hair, it will only stay for abouut an hour. the paint chips off and i'd just recomend not to buy this product, it is a waste your money!
Not so good

I've used hot tools items for years. However, this was a bad investment. I've had this straightening iron for less than a year and all of a sudden it stopped working. I also agree with the other reviews about it pulling your hair. Not a good buy.

I have naturally curly hair and this is one of the best straighteners I have used. After using it, no one would be able to guess it is not naturally straight. It is very hot, but you can adjust the heat settings. It has a great handle to grasp the hair tightly while straightening. My old straightener got the job done, but seemed to not grip the hair tight enough to straighten it as much as I would have liked. My hair feels so much softer and after using this straightener, I have had to many compliments about my hair.

I use 2 different straight irons(both hot tools) to straigten my daughters curly hair. I use the hot tools ceramic iron last and it makes my daughter hair straight and shiny.

I have had this straightener for about a year. The purple ceramic paint is chipping off, it burns whatever you set it on because the plates wrap around. The straightener also pulls my hair ALL OF THE TIME. I have very long hair, to my lower back, so ladies with long hair ... DO NOT BUY.
Not worth the price.

After my first Hot Tools flat iron didn't heat up anymore, I decided to buy this one, figuring it would be better. I was wrong. If anything, I would buy the Hot Tools straightener that was cheaper ($19.99 vs $39.99)This ceramic straightener refuses to keep your hair straight, conjures very frizzy hair, and makes it feel very tangled. Also, it yanks your hair out while straightening, and turns off without you knowing which is a pain in the neck. I do not request buying this straightener, it is a waste of money.

it was great at first but the paint or what ever that purple stuff on the plates is gradually burned off,and smells really bad every time it heats up. in the long run if you don't have great heat protection that you use all the time your hair will become broken and dry. The design is poor and my hair gets caught in the clamp at the bottom and breaks. If not that the handle is located over the on/off button and squeezing it to hard to get the plates to meet up results in it turning off. straighten my hair should not be so frustrating. If it didn't have such a poor design maybe it would be worth it.

I owned the previous version of this straightener and I loved it, however, the new version does not work as well as it's original design. The two plates don't meet very well and have to be pressed together tightly with all your strength just to get an average result. I wish Hot Tools would go back to their original design.

I bought this after I had my hairdresser used it - same brand and all... It works really well. Every once and a while it pulls a hair - but it is great - and a great price. I use it 1-2 times a week - my hair is medium curly.
the best ever!
