I have been using Hot Tools Flat Irons for years. I was attacted to them at first because they heated up instantly & straightened my hair.I have owned 2 pairs of flat irons. Both pairs had cracks near the plates and snags and breaks my hair off. I also hear they burn your hair out. Which my hair does have a burn smell when I finish flat ironing it. After reading the reveiws I'm saving to buy a more expensive pair of flat irons that won't break my hair off!
DONT BUY THIS!

I got this flat iron almost a year ago, and i thought it was amazing. It was the first flat iron I had ever had or used and I thought it was amazing. I have thick wavy hair and this straightener got it straight for the first hour, and then it curled. I hated it. I only dealt with it because it was cheap. Then the purple paint started chipping off and my hair was showing strong signs of being extremely damaged. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that my boyfriend pointed out that my hair never looks straight anymore, and it is always wavy, even though I straighten it everyday. I hate this product. It makes your hair extremely frizzy and DOES NOT KEEP YOUR HAIR STRAIGHT. It burns my dresser top and only straighens when you press it really really REALLY hard and never stays straight at all. It has never made my hair pin straight. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I'm getting rid of it and buying a better one. YOU'D BE STUPID TO GET THIS.
DON'T BUY!!!

My first flat iron was the CHI Turbo. I loved it! It lasted probably 3-4 years and it was just time for me to get a new one. I opted for a cheaper one...this one. After six months the purple started to peel off the plates. It snagged and pulled my hair EVERY time I used it. It burnt my hair really bad, no matter what heat protectant I used. I would not reccomend this product to anyone.

For 3 years I have used a tru ceramic pro absolutly wonderful product. I decided to try something new big mistake. This product is horrible and only has a one year warranty. Even though my tru ceramic pro's ceramic has chipped off and the spring is coming loose it still works great. I got a letter from them saying to send it back because thats not susposed to happen (I got a lemon). I never did. But after trying hot tools I'm sending my tru ceramic pro back and getting a new one. Ladies looking for a flat iron try it. It has a lifetime warranty no questions asked and well worth it.
Smoking...literally.

I've been using this on and off for about a year. Long ago the purple paint chipped off and today it started smoking while it was heating up. It won't get hot anymore, just barely warm (I can stick my hand in it and push down and it's not even hot.). This stinks. I did like it a lot when it was new but this is absurd.
It also pulled my hair out A LOT from snagging.
One of the best products.

I bought my first Hot tools product about 3 or four years ago and before the warranty was up on it, I dropped it and it broke. I sent it in and with in 2 weeks I had my new and improved model. I have that one since. I use it daily and it works really well. I'm half black half white and my hair is really really curly. It does take awhile to straighten it be once I get it done it's good for about 2 weeks or so. One con is that the plates aren't totally ceramic, they're ceramic coated, so the ceramic coating on mine has started to chip. Which defeates the purpose of having a creamic tool. Needless to say I am now shopping for another one. Overall the product is well worthy the money and from experience I can say that on my hair type works better than the Chi.

I had this straightener for about 1 year and i liked it because it was cheap and it worked pretty well... well it only worked pretty good for about 8 months of the year that i had it. So for Christmas i got another one... well after less than a month of having it....THE PLASTIC MELTED!!! i didnt leave it on the carpet or on the counter i let sit over the sink so it was touching ANYTHING!!! Well i was in a hurry and i didnt see the melted plastic and tried to straighten my bangs... well they were singed like crazy and its a story i will never live down from my friends.... I WILL NEVER USE THIS STRAIGHTENER AGAIN!!!! it was absolutely horrible! well the store couldnt give me money back so they gave me another of the same straightener and it only worked for about 6 months! IF YOUR SMART YOU WILL NOT BUY THIS STRAIGHTENER... EVEN IF IT IS PRETTY CHEAP!!!

Plates are NOT Ceramic

I bought this at ULTA and asked in detail about it, like if the plates were ceramic, how good is the quality, etc. The lady assured me that the plates were 100% ceramic, and not ceramic coated. Well, about a year and half down the road, I notice chipping and realized that the lady was wrong. Also, the heat setting does not stay constant after longer periods of time. Hair snags a lot. You have to go over sections repeatedly to get them pin straight, you also have to press hard. Your arm starts to get tired. I have normal, wavy hair and it usually takes me about 30-45 mins. to get it straight. You can smell your hair burning after a while. I've had this product for about 2 years now, and I would NOT recommend it to anyone else.

Horrible handle
broken after using less than 10 times (light won't light up)
i had it for 4 years. The first year, I stopped using it because it was hard to hold. Three years later, after watching videos on YouTube, I used it again. Stopped for 6 months and when I plugged it in today, it no longer worked! It was $125!
I purchased it in Montreal at Trade Secrets.
Eh...

This flat iron is okay and straightens my hair very well, but it takes a long time to straighten and my hair doesn't stay straight. It also pulls out some of my hairs too!

I got my hot tools flat iron for Christmas last year. It was great, my hair was shiny and soft. Everything was working great on it, and then the ceramic starting peeling. My hair dresser said it was normal, so I continued using it. That was dumb!!! My hair starting breaking after almost every use. It was frying my hair !! I'm now using a Sedu and couldn't be happier. It may cost more, but you get what you pay for.

so i have had this straightner for 2 years. it worked so good until last year it started to chip. i took it in and i couldn't get a refund. i didn't. then yesterday i was using it and it was like it would not work. it didn't warm up. i started to panic because i straighten my hair everyday before school. i have frizy curly wavy hair that does not look cute. i would not reccomen this straightner.

i have used this flat iron for several months because i got it as a present. it seemed to be working fine but as i kept using it, the purple iron part the ceramic chipped.
and now... the chipped part is big as your thumb so i had to throw it out.... and this flat iron takes long time to do the hair. i would not recommend this.
No thank you.

This is by far my least favorite of all irons I have owned(many). Not only does it not straighten my curly hair, it leaves it frizzy. When used on a women with straight hair it also caused frizz. It eventually caught hairs in its plates and proceeded to rip or break them. I threw it out 6 months later to rid my cabinet of it. It wasn't worth passing on to a client.

My hairdresser uses this flat iron so I decided to buy one. I took swimming lessons this summer and had to go without a relaxer for two months, when I usually get a relaxer every month. This flat iron was great it was as if I had a relaxer. Really worth the money.
Strengths and Weaknesses

I purchased this flatiron less than a year ago, and when I got it, I was thrilled! It straightened better than any other one I'd ever tried. It left my hair very silky. But the more I used it, the worse it got. Like super-speed entropy, the purple coating on the plates was peeling, my hair was getting caught in the clamps, and it became harder to keep my hair straight. I now have to use straightening shampoo, conditioner, and lotion to keep my hair straight through the school day.
I have thick, curly hair, so I assume that I put alot of stress on my straightener. My sister uses this flatiron, too, but hers is still almost like-new. She has thin, nearly straight hair anyway, though.
I would recommend this straightener to people with thin to average, straight to slightly curled hair. For people with these hair types, this straightener is great, and it's much cheaper than other flatirons. But in general, this is not my favorite straightener.
