It cracked after only FOUR months of use

This iron was great at first...it cut the time it took me to straighten my hair in half. Then almost exactle four months after I received this straightener as a gift the plate cracked off from the rest of the straightener so now it won't close. Don't waste your money on this there are many other ones out there that do a good job....AND DONT BREAK!
Good for the Money

I really liked this flat iron. I used it for almost 2 years when it broke. I actually dropped it and it broke so I didn't experience the problems that the other reviews had. I thought it straightened great and I live in an extremely humid area in the summer. I think it is worth the money.
I'm being generous with the one star.

I used to love Hot Tools flat irons but, this product is a complete waste of money. I have gone trough two irons in less than a year. The handle breaks. The purple coating on the plates wears off. I've noticed that the heat has reduced and it won't get as hot as it used to. I recently used a friend's Solia flat iron that
made me realize even more that the Hot Tools flat irons are worthless. You are better off spending more money on a better flat iron.
THE WORST IRON!!! TERRIBLE!!!

This is probably the worst flat iron out there. I have gone through THREE of them in 10 months. The ceramic comes off, the outside melts and the arms crack and break off... to make it worse the company expects you to wait 6-8 weeks to receive either for a refund or exchange. don't bother with this... it is a waste of time and money!!!
Worst flat iron yet!!

I purchased this flat iron last December and by April the ceramic coating was already coming off and continued to get worse. Then in July the bottom plate completely broke right at the handle.
The store wouldn't allow me to return or exchange it so I contacted the company, which told me I could mail it to them for a replacement. That was July, it's now October and I never received my replacement.
I've owned a total of four flat irons and they all broke in some fashion, but this one is the worst yet!!
good!!

This straightener worked really really well for me, but after about a year of using it, it kindo lost it's touch. Other wise it was a great buy! :)

This straightener.. is the best I've had. First of all its ceramic protectin your hair from getting damaged. Also it straighs so well I couldnt believe my eyes. Im just a 16 year old and I can't take forever straightening my hair every morning for school, but my hair gets really frizzy.. and this is simple and fast it only takes me 10 to 15 mintues no kidding!
CERAMIC KEEPS COMING OFF!!!

In June of 2003 I purchased the 1 1/2 Hot Tools Ceramic Flat Iron and within a few months the ceramic started to come off. I called Hot Tools and they said I could send it in for a replacement as they said it must be defective. They sent me a new one in November of 2003. Well my new one has the same problem. The ceramic started coming off in August. I called Hot Tools and asked them how long is the ceramic supposed to stay on and they said indefinitely. I told them about my 2nd flat iron and they said that this has never happened before, but when I read reviews on it I found several people complaining about the same thing. Hate companies that lie to their customers. Now I am sending this iron back to them, they refuse to give me a refund so I have to get a 3rd flat iron and I am sure I will face the same problem again. I will keep you posted.
Waste of Money and Time!!!!

The performance is very poor and if you have fine wavy hair like mine, most likely after 2 hours your hair will be frizzy. You never get that straight hair at the first place, it will look poofy!
Broken

I puchsed this iron on a whim and loved it. I broke rite at the handle. Got another one and it did the same thing. This is a great product but always breaks in the same spot. I am on my 5th one. As long as they replace it I will return it.

I bought this straightener right before Christmas 2003. My hair is very thick and curly and it straightened it great every time. The only problem is where it closes it started to crack and eventually, one of the plate sides broke off! It was also very hard to clean and scratched easily.

i got this straightner right after my first one broke from the same company..That was in march it worked pretty good it left my hair frizzy and poofy sometimes tho..Last month it started not closing all the way so i would have to hold both sides together when i was straighting my hair causing me too burn myself quite often. Today (september 17th) i was straightning my hair before school and i noticed a crack on da right side of it but i figured i could super glue it when i was done. I was halfway done and all of a sudde da right side cracked all the way and the only reason its still attached to the iron is because the is a wire inside..pretty pathetic in my opinion only lasted 6 months and was 40 dollars..i dont suggest buying equipment from hot tools there stuff just brakes..
I love it!

Wow! I can't believe how much i LOVE this straightener! Just last month i was reading all these reviews, some saying-it sucks others saying-its great. So far this straightener is great especially for me and my kind of hair. I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair and this straightener works awesome! The only thing i don't like about it, is that your hair gets stuck when you straighten it. Otherwise, its awesome. I recommand this straightener to everyone. It is great, i mean why spend $100 or more a straightener that works the same way. Well, i hope this help and believe me, its wonderful!
good, but smelly

i just got this straightener a few days ago. it seems to work very well on my thick hair. but it gives off this horrible smell. if you dont have a lot of money and you think you can deal with the smell then this could be good for you.

My hair is wavy and fairly thick, and after spending the $70 that I did (from a local beauty supply store), I am very UNHAPPY with the results. My hair didn't even get completely straight, and I don't even live in a humid environment (Arizona!). I had to go over small pieces of my hair about three times before it was fairly straight, and even then, the ends would still be curled up. This is something that I never had to deal with my $20 Vidal Sassoon flat iron that I bought at Wal-mart.
The worst part was that my hair kept breaking whenever I ran it through the iron. It kept getting stuck and it would pull out my hair. I tried changing it to a lower heat, using some hair product to make it glide easier, etc. but nothing worked. Once again, this is something that I never noticed while using my old straightener.
In my opinion, this product would probably appear good to first-time flat iron users, especially after making the change from a non-ceramic straightener to a ceramic straightener. But the fact is, this product is not worth your money. I expected my hair to look smooth and silky after using this straightener, but it only ended up looking brittle and unhealthy. My other $20 straightener ran smoothly through my hair, made it looks silky and shiney, and made my hair very straight.
The end result? I'm still using my old Vidal
Don't buy this Hot Tools product. If you do buy it, save your receipt and the original packaging in case you need to replace it using the warranty.
Broke after four months

I flat iron my hair everyother day for the last four months. I recently tried to flat iron my hair and one of the plates had cracked. I actually blamed my boyfriend but after reading the reviews I guess it's a defect. Overall, I was pleased with the product until it broke. At least I bought it for 30 bucks and was able to do a lifetime warranty exchange at costco:)

I bought this straightener about 9 months ago and when I first used it I was totally unsatisfied. I was stuck with it though, because I couldn't afford to go out and buy another one. My hair is kinda thick, somewhat wavy, definately frizzy and short, therefore it only looks good when its silky smooth and super straight. Well, I would never spend my money on this again because this product does not do that. One, it doesnt straighten perfectly and two it takes so long to do my hair and three, your hair gets caught in the stupid thing and rips some of it out. Don't buy this its a waste of your fourty bucks.
I bought it 5 months ago the WORST

I love to straigten my hair 5 days a week althougth it is on the straighter side. I have fine, thin stratish/wavy hair that i hate wearing to school. So i live off the iron. I decided to buy the Hot Tools Ceramic but beknown to me it SUCKED. It pulled my hair out soooo badley and gave me the worst case of split ends. Also it says it keeps the moisture in your hair, but while doing so makes it a frizz ball. It gets frizzy when its hot and humid out and doesnt do a good job "eliminating frizz"!!! My advice to you is to buy a different straigtener than this. For instance i just ordered the SEdu. YESs i know its a little over the price but you should get something you know will give you the very best results. Good LUCK!
