i also have curly coarse hair so therefore i don't advise you to get this iron. It's horrible. I couldn't even get my hair straight. It goes up to 10

Auto Shut Off??
If by accident you leave this on after you've gone to work, does it automatically shut off after a certain period of time?

no it doesn't. i have left mine on so many times and now there are black marks on my vanity table from it.

purple coating
is it still ok to us the straitner after most of the purple coat comes off???

No because the purple coating is what keeps your hair from gotting danage.

Can this be used on damp hair
I have read where some ceramic irons work on towel dried hair. Is it OK to do that with this iron?
