I have been using Hennalucent (sunset glo) since I was 17 years old, & I'm now 34 years old. I am so happy with my hair & I have felt for years that my hair is my best feature!! I've been stopped and complimented continuously these years I actually let it grow out to it's natural brown about 5 years ago when I settled down & started a family. My hair was never mentioned again..... until I started back up a couple years ago! I immediately started getting stopped again regularly about my hair!!!!!

I had purchased Hennalucent in Bark Brown, but after reading some of the reviews, I wondered whether I should have gone with the Earth Brown instead. I found a handful of reviews that claimed that the Bark Brown turned their hair jet black, so that was a concern.
I have fine hair, that is porous, so I decided to leave it on for just 10 minutes. I noticed a very subtle change, but it's almost imperceptible.
I only used half of the product, so I am going to try it again in a few weeks. Maybe I'll let the product 'stabilize' longer before applying it, and leave it on my hair longer before rinsing it out.
Best mixed with Colora Henna

Over 30 years ago my hairstylist told me to use 2 brands of henna together for the best results. I have done this off and on since then, and have always loved the results. My hair is untreated, fine, limp, and stringy even when pretty short. This combo I'm going to tell you about makes it much shinier and have more body and look thicker. In the past, with the same stylist's approval, I have even used it on permed hair--just wait 2 weeks after perming to apply. Here is what you use. One package of COLORA henna in a shade that is closest to your natural hair color. I use "Brown" because my hair is naturally dark brown with warm hi-lights. Then you add in 1/2 package of HENNALUCENT neutral, and mix well (dry). Add the Hottest water that you can stand (just off of the boil, if possible). Mix really well until the goop is about the consistency of spinach pureed in a blender, but liquid. Kind of like thick junior baby food. You keep adding water a little at a time to get the right consistency. Put on like you would bleach--in slim sections with a bleach brush. Cover both sides of each section with the brush, and make sure it is thin enough to soak in, but not drip. The more hair you have, or the longer it is will determine how much you use. If you have a lot of thick, full or LONG hair it may take 2 pkgs of COLORA henna and one whole pkge of HENNALUCENT neutral henna. By the way, the COLORA henna goes on GREEN and smells pretty awful--kind of like burning spinach, but it is worth the smell! When you have all of your hair covered (if your hair is very long, you have to section it in such a way as to have it all packed on top of your head by this time). Then you wrap a cotton coil (available at the beauty supply) around your entire hairline, cover your head with a disposable plastic cap or just plastic wrap, and sit for one hour. It is easier to rinse out if you put a lot of conditioner on and mix it in first, but is still somewhat hard to rinse out. You have to keep adding conditioner until all of the goop is rinsed out and the stream of water running through your hair is clear. Then wash once with shampoo,(not one that strips)and style as you normally would. On my hair, it seems to take about 24 hours for the shine to fully develop. Also, one time I tried Hennalucent for my color, and my hair turned out much redder, and not as shiny or bouncy. I think the two types together work best. After you buy a box of Colora henna in what you think is the most appropriate color and buy a box of Hennalucent neutral, then both products ttell you inside the expected result of each color.
8 years and never a problem

I have been using this brand of henna on my hair for the past 8 years and it always looks great. I attribute my long hair to using it since I have very very fine hair that now reaches my waist. I never could have grown my hair this long without the conditioning it provides. I've henna'd my friends' hair in the past and all except one had amazing results. To those of you who say that it turns hair green or grey or blue. The only reason this happens is because you have other chemicals in your hair that react to henna!!! The friend whose hair didn't turn out denied having dyed her hair previously, and it turned silvery-blue-green. I would never use anything else on my hair.

I used to get Hennalucent done in my salon in the 70's when
it was all the rage. I was so thrilled recently to see it
in a beauty supply store, and bought it for my daughter who
has med. brown hair like me with red highlights. We mixed Earth brn w/ Sunset Glo like I used to and she was so pleased with the results we are doing it again next wk.
Don't bother using Hennalucent

Don't bother buying or using Hennalucent. I used it in the 1990's and got great results for both the red color and conditioning. Tried their NEW AND IMPROVED product with clear only (fearing green hair as I have read about in reviews) Nothing, no conditioning, no thickening. Even the consistency is different, it used to be smooth and usable and now it is like lumpy flour past. Don't waste your time, money or hair on this product.
Any henna (other than neutral) can produce weird colors

I read the review that said henna doesn't turn hair green.
It doesn't a lot of the time for many people.
But henna's results are unpredictable. Always do a strand test. And realize that the results on the whole head may be different than on the strand.
Results vary with how the henna reacts to the person's hair -- its color and its composition. Hennas -- especially those with lots of indigo mixed in (the darker colors)-- CAN produce some very odd looking (and long lasting) metallic green and metallic blue hues. I know. I've experienced them.
And on light blond and white (gray) hair, other henna mixes (all colors but red are the result of other herbs being mixed in or, with some brands, with some metals being mixed in) you can get a seafoam yellow-ish-greenish tinge to your blondes or browns. Or, surprise, you're trying for brown and you get copper. If you're mostly gray, chances are you are not going to get satisfactory results with henna coloring.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from using henna. I've used colored hennas from time to time for almost 20 years and have regularly used neutral henna for added shine. I've had good results and I've had bad results with henna coloring. I've had bizarre fish-skin-like metallic colors on parts of my head and nice darker hair on the rest. I've experienced the greens and blues and coppery oranges that others have talked about. And I've never found a way to remove a bad henna job. Hennalucent's in-package brochure tells about "Color Out" that supposedly removes henna safely, but I've never found it anywhere and don't even find it doing a Google search.
I'm not a hairdresser trying to trash a natural do-it-at-home process. I'm a naturopathic doctor who wishes henna were more predictably reliable.
I've found Hennalucent's products easier to work with than some other brands -- in part because they are so finely ground. I really like their neutral, which is a fine white powder that becomes almost pudding like when mixed.

I used hennalucent neutral. I noticed absolutely no difference in my hair. It doesn't appear shinier or healthier.
I'm wondering if it will be okay for me to bleach my hair soon since I didn't use a "real" henna... and since the hennalucent didn't deposit any color??

I quit using this product about 10 years ago. However, my hair has sustained so much damage from chemical dyes, that it was falling out in handfulls. I used Sunset Glow w/Earth Brown last night. My hair is now shiny, smooth & feels better than it has in years. Additionally, I had about half the hair loss with combing that I was experiencing prior to using. I also would like to point out that metals are elements found in nature, thereby making them organic. Chemicals are not.

Although advertised as 100% natural, there ARE metallic ingredients that reacted horribly with previous chemicals I had on my hair. My hair first turned bright orange, then after apply a brown my hair turned green.
I had to shave my head.
If you have ANY chemical on your hair do NOT use this product. Buy body art quality henna from a reputable dealer!

This is a great product that I have used for years. It is a new formulation and is a little different, but still great.
I use it when my hair needs shine and coditioning, usually after summer when my hair has been exposed to to much sun, and chlorine. It gives it a nice boost, not much color change, just shine and body.
Hennalucent has changed!!!

I've been using henna on my hair for 30 YEARS, and for most of that time I've used Hennalucent. I wouldn't have used one product for so long unless I was getting good results! I used to use only Sunset Glow, but as my hair got more and more grey, Sunset Glow left the resulting color more orange than red, so I started adding Earth Brown/Bark Brown to darken and tone down the orangeness, and I still got good results (more of an auburn than bright red). Many, MANY compliments on my hair color and shininess! Recently, however, I've come to dread the once-a-month henna application, because I never know what to expect. I'm still using the same "formula" of Bark Brown/Earth Brown/Sunset Glow in a 2/4/1 ratio, but sometimes I get a very dark brown, sometimes I get the red/brown I'm looking for, but as often as not I get GREEN. Whimper. I have no idea what Hennalucent changed in their formulations, but I wish they would change it back!
I love this product!!

I've been using Hennalucent for the past 30 years and have always had excellent results. I have fine, short medium brown hair and every six weeks or so, I mix Sunset Glo with Earth Brown to "do my hair". I end up with strong, shiny hair in a wonderful warm brown color with reddish blond highlights. The reddish blond highlights must be the gray in my hair since I honestly have no idea how much gray there really is. I always get compliments on the color and even the stylist who cuts my hair marvels at the natural blending of color in my hair. Yes, it is a bit messy to use, but it's no big deal. I leave the mix in for a solid hour and use rubber gloves when applying and washing my hair out. I'd be lost without it.
Wouldn't even give it a Star.

Reddish brown equals ashy/grey/green? I don't think so. I cannot believe the results of this. I wouldn't recommend this to ANYONE. Stay away from Hennalucent! HORRIBLE!

I have been using Hennalucent for the lase 20 years. I always get complemented on my hair color. I even get it to color my grey hair. It looks very natural. I liked the old but the new is great too. I think it's a great way to color your hair naturally.

I have used Hennalucent for the past 25 years. I stopped for a few years and started using Nexus products. I decided to go back to the best conditioner I had used in the past and purchased Hennalucnet Neutral for the overall conditioning I remember receiving after its use. First of all I was shocked at how the consistency has changed. It is no longer the honey consistency I was used to AND it was very messy and excessively moist when I put it on my hair. It constantly dripped, unlike the honey consistency of the old Hennalucent AND I don't believe it gave my hair the silky look and feel I remember obtaining after each use. I am very disappointed and the new and improved version and will not purchase it again. I wish I could contact the makers and find out why they felt the need to "fix" something that was not broken!! The "improvement" is awful!!!
AMAZING!

I have dark brown with greys. Sunset Glo made me a very natural looking shiny dark auburn and turned the greys a rich red that look like natural high lights. People comment on my hair, espeically in the Summertime. For 5 years I've used this product and I'm very happy with it.
When you apply henna, it's very earth smelling and green colored. I suspect people that gave reviews and say henna turned their hair green are really hair styleists that lost business due to the growing popularity of henna. Although the application paste is green, Henna does not turn your hair green. That's funny!
Typically you'll pay about $4 per application and I leave it on for an hour. The price is cheap, there is no big production going to a hair salon, and the color is really beautiful and natural looking!
Good luck and have fun!

I first used Hennalucent in Earth Brown a few years ago, before the 'new formulation' and was pleased with the results. It didn't turn my hair green. It also didn't completely cover my gray hairs (only a few at the time). It had a smell like cooking spinach. But on the whole, a nice product with a good price.
About a year ago I used the Earth Brown again and noticed a definite vinegar-y smell that developed after my hair was dry. It didn't go away for about a week, but other than that, no bad effects.
Just yesterday I used a combination of Sunset Glo and Bark Brown. My hair now has a definite reddish glow and the gray hairs are a coppery color that really stand out against the rest of my hair. Still, it looks much less noticeable than the gray. No vinegar smell this time, only one that could be described as 'vegetation' and very faint at that. My hair doesn't feel as dry as it did before the Hennalucent. BTW, afterward I used a neutral henna shampoo and conditioner.
I plan on continuing use of Hennalucent unless I find something better. . . .
From what I have read on other websites about henna products, if you have used ANY other type of coloring product then you MUST do a swatch test (one way would be to harvest the hairs in your hairbrush instead of clipping a piece from your head) because some dyes can linger in your hair and will react badly with henna. Bottom line: Proceed with Caution!
