i love this straightener...It's strong and durable...I'm a clutz and dropped mine all the time but it kept on working. Even when i broke the one of the sides off that hold the plate on it still worked great until i finally found this website and ordered another one.

Purchased because my stylist swears by them, and I have to say that this is the best flat iron I've ever used. Size is perfect, and doesn't damage hair. Doesn't give off the burning smell that some others do.
Great investment

This straightening iron has been a great investment and worth the extra cost. My curly/frizzy hair straightens much more easily now that I can use the 400 degree heat option. It is so great that it only takes seconds to heat up unlike my previous straighteners which took forever. No hair appliance is absolutely perfect but overall I am very satisfied with this and I recommend this to anyone with problem hair. I like the fact that my hair can be a complete mess of frizz and dryness and then after I use it my hair can look soft and straight. I usually have to go over each strand several times before it looks good but it still takes less time than when I used my old straighteners. I have received many compliments on my hair after using this.
Pretty good ...

I agonized over which hair straightener to purchase, and in February, I chose this one for its reviews, price, weight, and the fact that it's 1.25 inches wide, not just one. I have somewhat coarse hair (half Asian, yo!), and lots of it (w00t, eastern European blood!) and I figured that, unlike my hair, bigger is better in this case. Then I heard from an experienced flat iron user that it's temp, not size, that matters.
My hair's about three inches past my shoulders, and it takes me about 20 min. to straighten in layers, pulling up the rest of my hair as I work from the nape of my neck on up.
I don't use it at the highest temp, but I've been getting split ends here and there. Then again, it's probably my fault for not consistently using hair product. On the other hand, I ironically (whoa, major pun) began to pull up my funky hair a while after getting this straightener, so I don't use it very regularly. Overall, I say it's a good buy.

I absolutely loved this straightening iron. But it didn't even last a year. It made my hair very soft and straight but if I'm going to pay close to $100 for a straightening iron, I want it to last longer than a year. It just stopped working this morning. I didn't drop it or leave it on all night. It just broke.

I've had my HAI for about a month now and I'm addicted! My hair has never looked better, and I still get compliments daily about how good my hair looks. My hairdresser used a HAI on my hair (a week before I bought mine) and I was sold. My hair is thick and wavy, but not after I straighten it...it's smooth and straight. Two of my die-hard CHI friends said they like my HAI just as much as their CHI! I recommend the HAI to anyone.

I found this product to be just OK. I also have the FHI 1" and the temp goes up to 450. This product is not as effective.

I had not used a flat iron before, and my hairdresser has this model. I was really happy to have it on a recent trip to Europe; it was a great styling tool especially since travel hair dryers never do the job. The free mat/pouch is a helpful "bonus" and makes packing and storage really easy. Folica's price was the best I could find on line or in a store!
4 years and still going strong

I have really STRONG THICK hair and lots of it, and every morning I used to wake up to a mess of unattractive wonky waves. My hair just laughed at department store straighteners. Next I tried the lower end salon models but they just didn't last before they konked out. Then I tried the Hai convertible and it's a jewel! Basically, it will "straighten out" any mop, frizz, or unwanted curl - I keep it at the highest setting (10). It heats up to the highest setting in seconds and it's so hot that the job goes really quickly. I was worried about frying my hair but the Hai makes it feel smooth and silky. The swivel cord is handy too. Also, if you want your hair to roll a little, use the Hai to straighten a lock of hair and then really quickly, use a brush to hold the lock of hair in a rolled position for a few seconds. Just make sure you use a brush to do this as the lock of hair is REALLY hot right after. The Hai works perfectly, is light, and reliable. Wouldn't trade it for anything. 4 years and still going strong! Can't recommend it enough. And I'm really picky. If it goes, I will definitely get another.

Moisture & shine!

I am African-American, so I have pretty curly hair and this flat iron gets it pretty straight, BUT it doesn't last long. If I wear my hair down for longer than 10 minutes it gets frizzy :( When I first used it my hair was INCREDIBLY soft and shiny...and straight! For some reason, now I have to go over the same piece of hair a thousand times for it to get straight like that (maybe it's just getting old?). Another weird thing is that when I straighten my hair with a brush or comb next to the iron, there are little beads of water that accumulate from the steam that it gives off (even when my hair is COMPLETELY dry).
truly fantastic

i bought this iron less than a year ago. I still works beautifully and gives me fantastic results time and time again. My hair is really thick and really curly yet the iron still achieves the pin straight look I desired. Many of my friends had this iron and they too we're happy with their results.

I had this iron for 3 years... it finally died on me =( After 2 years of using it the iron started turning on and off i have to put the chord in a certain position for it to stay on. I handle my iron with TLC too. I didn't roll the chord or twist it, I learn that from using my first iron, the Chi. Overall both iron are excellent in straightening my hair BUT it doesn't last long .... now I'm back hunting for another one.
Great Value

HAI is great, I don't deny that, but I bought the product two summers ago..and the straightner is acting up already. Although it's plugged, sometimes the straightner refuse to be on. I had to place it certain ways in order to get the red light to stay on. I bought a hair dryer for $20, it still works and I've been using it since High School. If I had to pay $80 for a product that will last less than a few years..I really don't think it's worth it.
