African American Natural Hair

Less product is best for best results.

Do deep conditioner treatment (for the moisture angle that our hair needs), rinse out and apply the heat protectant. Use a good heat protectant but that is it. Nothing else, no leave ins, no creams, no nothing on the hair or the end results won't be right. If you must add -- use a little bit of curl wax, or pressing creme -- just a touch enough to make your fingers shiny.

If you don't have the swing and the bounce, chances are you didn't get your hair straight enough and moved the iron through it too fast. I did the same thing at first scared of burning my hair. Go a bit slower through the sections, just make sure you are using the heat protectant.

ghd to be used differently than others

The ghd stylers are different than others in one HUGE way: The temp is lower and doesn't change much.
This is so the user can slow down when pulling through the hair. It is supposed to be used slowly and only once to create the desired look.
PS: ghd provides a manufacturer warranty, so if there is a problem and you are within the warranty time contact them!!

Must-Have Products To Buy From Folica When You Buy Any Flat Iron
submitted by: Macky Melize, Sun Aug 26 2007

Thinking of buying a flat iron? Well, there's more to it than just a flat iron. When you buy a flat iron from Folica be sure that you buy these along with your flat iron! These products will ensure that your flat iron will last long, be easier to use, and straighten your hair much faster. This tip doesn't just go for the Sedu, make sure you get these products with ANY flat iron.

1. Time after time, build-up will cling to your flat iron, coating your precious flat iron in gunk and burnt residue. This will cause your hair to stink and also it will take you longer to flat iron your hair. Clean it with Sedu Professional Styling Iron Cleaner which is sold on Folica for $6.99

2. Using heat on your hair frequently will cause damage to your hair, BUT not if you use a heat protectant! If you're looking for a high-quality heat protectant, get FHI Heat Hot Sauce, which is sold on Folica for $14.00.
OR you can get any Sedu Heat Protectant for $12.99. They have heat protectants that volumize, moisturize, and smoothe your hair. If your hair is color treated, you can get one that is for Colored hair.

3. It is much easier to flat iron your hair if you put it into sections before you straighten it, and clipping your hair away so it doesn't get in the way of the section you are straightening can make the job go quicker. Use Metropolis The Crane Hair Clips to clip your hair into sections while flat-ironing it. These clips cost $9.99 for a box of 6 clips.

4. When you store your flat iron, make sure it is kept where it can't get dusty, dirty, kicked around, stepped on, or damaged. I keep my flat iron inside the Folica Heat Proof Iron Mat/Pouch which currently comes free with all flat irons. When you are not using it, slip it inside the pouch with the plates closed and the plug UNPLUGGED, resting on top of the pouch. While you are straightening your hair, you can also use it as a mat to not burn countertops and such.

So, there you have it! Four must-have flat iron essentials to get with your flat iron. Make sure you grab all these products from Folica when you get a flat iron!

reduce straightening time & damage

1.When straightening your hair it is best to start with the back first then work your way to the front. If you can't reach the back get a friend to straighten it for you.
2.Make sure you seperate your hair into sections using clips, so you won't mix up your straightened hair with your unstraightened hair.
3.Now, last, but not least,To prevent servere damage and split ends, try using some paul mitchel super skiny hair serum. This will not only help for damage, it will leave your hair soft, shiny, and straighten even when it's humid outside.

perfectly straight hair

i've seen so many moans about not getting hair perfectly straight, so here's some guidelines, and just so you know this isnt just a user of straighteners, my partner is the company executive for quality, user feedback and all the boring bits for ghd here in england! i am a hairdresser, and work in a ghd approved salon since ghd came around!

so here's some help...

always use reputable shampoos and conditioners, nu:u, and also l'Oreal are good shampoos. use a leave in conditioner, or make your own (1 part your fave conditioner, 2 parts water, shake well!) and use treatment masks once a month.

1- use a cream, anti frizz if possible, and blow dry your hair, in sections, aiming the dryer downwards, this minimises damage to the cuticle.
2- once your hair feels dry, put a serum or leave in conditioner spray in your hair, and blast on a cool setting, this closes the cuticles which open with heat (the same as your hairdresser should do when colouring your hair-but with water!) use the cool setting with a brush, preferably a bristle brush.
3- use a serum (liquid, not cream) section by section putting the serum in.
*if your hair tends to wave or frizz easily, use a hairspray as well before (yes, before) straightening, mixed with serum. (it's best to use a spray that isnt pressurised, such as a deoderant type spray where u hold the button and it keeps coming out, because these are cold and you could damage your hand!)
4- spray one pump of hairspray and a small drop of serum into your palm, and rub through the section (this should cover the hair from the ears and down) then use the straighteners immediately, or the spray will dry. if your straighteners have a comb attatchment then this is great, but if it doesn't, pull a comb through your hair immediately before the straighteners
*if you are slow with straighteners, do smaller sections. repeat this through all the hair, using more serum than hairspray on the top layers to increase shine.
5- once all hair is straighened, use a serum on the ends, then a spray on the roots to hold stray hairs.

so theres your beautiful hair, touch it all you want, the oils on your hair will hold the style! touch up with hairspray when required, but always use a serum or the hairspray will dampen the shine. never straighten or blowdry, or curl your hair, without a protective product, and never skip on the hairdressers every 6-10 weeks.

i follow this and i have tight, ringletted, fine and frizzy hair, my hair is perfect and lasts about 3-4 days. this may sound disgusting, but i never wash my hair anymore often than that, unless i am re-styling, in which case i dont shampoo i just rub over with water and condition the ends. this lets hair keep its natural oils for as long as possible.

smooth ends

many stylists suggest that you only go over your once with your ghd flat iron, i've noticed though that you need to go twice over your ends,so that you get a smoother finish that doesn't look dry. also a small amount of kms flat out serum gives wonderful shine and smells good too..
