I have been lightening my hair for years and its always remained healthy, until i was fooled into ghd straightners my hairdresser used them for the first time after highlighting my hair, well i loved them my hair looked like ultra soft spun gold!! i had to have a pair & was soon addicted using them twice a week for a year,i always used good quality heat protecting products, but my hair is now ruined breaking constantly & if i try & straighten now it doesnt look anything like it used too, so i cant highlight my hair anymore & have since sold my irons with the hope my hair will return to its natural glory. So be warned even if you use all the right products to protect your hair the GHD will eventually ruin your hair(note the burning hair smell you get when using a GHD.
Love the GHD

Okay well the only reason i am writing this review is because too many people on here are raving on and on about how great this straightner is, which is why i was fooled into buying one. First of all I had previosly owned The Chi, and i had it for 3 yrs or so until i dropped it on a hardwood floor and it finally broke, but until then no problems whatsoever..... So then after it broke I was curious to see if there was another flat iron out there that was even better than the Chi, and i came on this website and saw so many great things about the GHD, so i went ahead and bought it. First time i tried it, it was "okay" and was kinda dissapointed, but i figured i hadnt mastered the "technique" down, so the second day i tried it i was bit happier with my hair but not so much.... (by the way I have thick wavy hair, and a lot of it!) I will say , yes it does leave your hair shiny, and it does NOT snag your hair (my CHI did snag my hair a bit) those are the only good things about the GHD .... Now the bad things about the ghd, it totally killed my ends, and left my hair a bit TOO flat, boring flat...... my hair has been looking crappy lately , so now i am going to buy the CHI again! To make a long story somewhat short, go with the CHI its the best especially for the price! It gets the job done right! And it straightens your hair but doesnt leave it limp/flat/ boring, it still has a bit of volume (which i like) If you have thick wavy hair like me Please dont buy the GHD...
I love this straightener...

...and have used a few other brands in the past. In my experience, the one that comes the closest to the results I get from the GHD is the Chi. Despite the price difference, and positive prior experiences with the Chi, I opted for the GHD after reading so much on the Chi's short lifespan.
I have to say, the GHD is my new favorite toy. My hair is thick and wavy, but I only need one swipe per section with the GHD to get picture perfect, straight and shiny hair that lasts for days. I also noticed after using the Chi, that when I washed and dried my hair naturally, my hair was noticeably coarser and dry, which made me afraid to use it very often. I've been using the GHD two to three times a week for about a month now and much to my surprise, the few times that I leave my hair aux naturale, my hair actually looks and feels healthier than before! Pretty impressive. Thanks, Folica, for an A+ product!

I bought my GHD's in April 2006 from a website called beautysleuth.co.uk for £80, which was a bargin for GHD's. but 16 months on and the cable becomes unattached to the rest of the iron, and the LED is not lighting up, so therefore the straighteners do not heat up. i have read some reviews and other people have said that their cable has broken as well, which i think is absolutely rubbish, because the price of these irons should ensure the quality. i have not done anything to make the quality any less, i have never wrapped the cable around the irons or dropped them. i contacted GHD and they said they could find the fault and repair them...at a price. so i am going to have to buy a new pair of straightening irons as now the cable has actually split a little and it is sparky and smokey when in use.
very, very annoying and not what you would expect from GHD!
they were very good at the start but now the guarantee has run out and i have to pay more money to make my hair look frizz-free :)

I purchased my GHD after a raving review from a friend. Both of us have curly, course hair that gets frizzy in high humidity. Loved the results! but dissapointed when both irons (hers & mine) stopped working in less than a year. Would love to have another but the cost is too much for a product that breaks so soon.
Its nothing to scream about

I have used the flat iron a few times now. I do love the fact that its small and gets right at the hairline. It also straightens my hair with one swipe. However- I live in washington (its not that humid) and I have noticed the hair at my neckline will get wavy really quickly and definately overnight. So touch ups are a must. I bought the Flat iron because of a review on the East Coast saying that her hair didnt budge and over there its really humid. OVERALL- I am Disappointed!!

I really loved my strightener at first..it worked amazing i was so proud of the way it made my hair shiney and smooth. But i havent had it for about 6 months and when u turn it on to straighten it wont heat up or the light wont stay on. you have to wiggle the cord around and sit it a certain way and sometimes even then it doesnt work. Iv got it to heat up and then hurry and straighten as much hair as possible..its just a pain. And it my hair looks terrible because it takes 2 houors or so to do now. As of today it doesnt even turn on.

I saw a huge difference between GHD, CHI and Sedu flat irons. While I love my CHI and Sedu and they have served me well over the past years, the result I get from these irons are never as good as my GHD. I live in a very humid climate and my hair stays straight when I style it with GHD. Trust me, it is worth every penny so invest on a good one.

This is an excellent product. Say goodbye to humidity frizz and hours of styling. I have shoulder length hair and can now rough dry it and straighten it in less than 10 minutes. Absolutely brilliant!

i am a hairdresser for 22 yrs. i have been searching for the advanced in technology for 2007. the ghd does not straighten as well as implied. it takes even longer because the temp only goes to 374 which supposedly is all hair needs to be at to straighten let alone stay healthly.yes my hair is shinier and if i use it to make natural curls on my cliets it is awesome, but to be straight and stay straight there's better out there. i hope this helps...you can always try it for yourself.

As a customer from the UK who travels a lot to the USA I struggled with my own GHD's as they were not compatible with your electricity supply and therefore spoiling my husband's and my vacation (because if I cannot straighten my hair I am miserable). Having purchased my new american GHD's I am thrilled and they also work here in the UK.
Many thanks for speedy service and good packaging (nothing damaged including the box).

when i first straighten my hair its pin straight and smooth and i LOVE it but then after like 20 min it starts to wave and frizz again. in other words it doesnt hold the "straight" in my curly hair.

Well all i can say is this is the kind of flat iron that is for girls with hair that is naturally straight. I'm a black women with that curly thick hair and my sister has that nappy hair. The only thing that was okay was the fact that it came with a instructionale DVD, the sad thing is the curls and waves and volume stuff worked better than the straight style. Also it gets complicated because if you move your the iron a little then you hair is not going to be straight but more wavy looking. Save your money for $195.00 i thought this was gonna be the best it's a wast.Your better off gettiing a solia 1 inch. It's like a GHD but better and Hotter.
Missing Info a drawback

I bought one of these in the UK and it was great. I fried my T3 trying to use it with the UK current. Bad idea. Anyway, I bought this one here and it was supposed to come with a lot of goodies including a cd with info about the product. The cd was not included when I got it. The flat iron did not have a temp control and since I didn't have the cd, I had no idea whether there was something I could do about it. The booklet that come with it only had info about other products, so I'm assuming the product info was on the cd.
So, if you are overseas, it seems to be a great flatiorn. In the US it may be too hot. Maybe it has something to do with the wiring? Maybe some info was in the cd, maybe not, who knows?
Pleased with purchase

I have very curly hair that is unruly and horrible to deal with. GHD straighteners allow me to have beautiful straight hair that does not frizz after and hour. I have just moved to Canada from Scotland and one of the first things I did was hunt down a pair that would work over here. Lifesavers, I wouldn't use any other kind of ceramic straigheners.
