its all to do with the cermaic section of them.
other cheap straighters offer cermaic but its mearly bad quality
if you are puttin 220 degrees of heat on your hair normal srtriaghters make it straight but wont leave you hair without split end or anything like that but ghds lock in moisture
ghds are known to be the best around and certainly are quickest heat up
laster straighten curls so
all salons have them all other the world
hope this answers you question | does the GHD last longer than the CHI
I'm looking for a straightner and I was looking into buying the CHI at first but I saw the reviews on how quickly they break. Has anyone had their GHD for awhile? How long do they usually lasts? I just don't want to spend more money on it than the CHI and have it lasts about the same as the CHI. Question posted by R.G Mon Apr 23 2007 Submit your answer | Reply by gina

im going crazy trying to decide between ghd-paul mitchell- or sedu. why would yours be the best? my hair is very dry from coloring, so besides a good haircut, i just want it to be shiny and softer again. its naturally curly but ive been straighting with magic ionic for a while now, worked good while it lasted(3 years) but wanted to try something different. what makes this one so good for the price compared to other 2? I was torn between the Sedu & the GHD, I had a GHD used on me at a salon recently and was not able to try the Sedu so I went for it and I LOVE IT. Since the GHD costs more, I am sure it is better quality because you get what you pay for. :) | GHD hair straightener
Has anyone used the GHD straightener with hair being wet? Question posted by delia Fri Nov 10 2006 Submit your answer | Reply by shakira

When you use any heat styler on wet hair you produce steam.
It is this steam which destroys your hair | Fine/Fragile/Thin Hair
HELP!!! Most of the reviews are by people with THICK, COARSE, CURLY hair. But what about thin, downy fine, fragile (very easily damaged) hair? Since there is no temperature control, how does it treat fine fragile hair? Anybody out there with that kind of hair have experience with the GHD Hair Straightener? YES! You can use it on fine/fragile or damaged hair. Most people think, the hotter the iron, the better it will work, but NOT so! This iron was tested and made to have a fixed temperature, it doesn't need to be hotter than 375*. The benefit of this iron, is the heating element is THROUGHOUT the plate and not just an "S" curve like most irons. The heat stays constant, so one pass from root to ends and you are done. If you have ever used any other iron, you know that you always have to go over the ends of your hair again and again. Not with this one! I use it on fine/fragile hair with excellent results. The infrared heat, the ceramic plates and the even heat gives you results like nothing else. Try it, you will LOVE it!!! | | Reply by Kelli

I just talked to a ghd distributor. He told me the iron stays at 374 degrees (I think). He says this is the perfect temperature for all hair types. Hope this helps. I havn't tried one yet but I heard great things about the ghd iron. I am going to buy one soon. | volts
will this straightner work in South Africa with the different volts we use in South Africa? Question posted by carla Thu Oct 12 2006 Submit your answer | Reply by Mai

I'm not sure if the GHD MK3 will work in Africa, BUT the GHD MK4 definately will. It is equipped with universal voltage, so it will automatically adjust to the outlet that you plug it into. | GHD vs. CHI
GHD vs. CHIDoes anyone know which one is better? They look identical, I just purchased a GHD hoping that it's better than a CHI. Question posted by Suzanne Mon Oct 02 2006 Submit your answer | Reply by lilazngrl

I'm not sure, but I had a 2" CHI Turbo and I had it for 4 years and (recently) it broke. I loved my CHI. I used it everyday in the morning and at night and I never had any problems, then the other day the swivel cord broke where it attaches to the actual iron. It started shorting out. Now it doesn't stay on. Needless to say I'm now about to buy a GHD. I hear they're awesome. I can't wait to receive mine. | | Reply by laddeeddaa

I think that GHD's are better quality than CHI's so they last longer. I heard that chi's die quickly. | | Reply by Adam

GHD's are better. There's not a huge amount of difference (except the price) but GHD's are certainly better quality. I had my hair,(thick+curly, with irritating curls at the bottom of the back)straightened at my previous hairdressers with GHD's, and with CHI's at my current hairdressers. The GHD's made my hair perfectly straight and got rid of the curls, and the CHI's did the same, but didn't straighten out the curls to the same extent. Personally, I'm buying GHD's, but CHI's are similar quality.
Hope that helps. | | Reply by Stephanie

I have both and I would definately chose my GHD over the CHI. The new GHD can not only make my hair super straight, I can add volume to end by curling my ends. It's so easy to use. My hair always get's frizzy outside, especially in Houston, but using my GHD I don't have that problem anymore. I'm so HAPPY with my GHD. | will it burn my skin if touched
im looking for the flat iron that i saw on the television that your will be able to touch your skin or face it wont burn is this the iron? Question posted by wania saks Mon Sep 11 2006 Submit your answer damp hair?

i dont think so because it would damage it like that i think is best to use a spray or cream and then straight it on damp hair | | Reply by Adam

I wouldn't reccomend it. Chances are it would fry the straighteners and leave your hair brittle. If you want to use straighteners on damp hair, buy wet-dry straighteners.
Hope that helps. | Is it as good as the UK version?
I have the British version of these straighteners and am trying to find a replacement for when I go to Canada for uni. To the people who have used both- is there any difference in the quality of them? Do the US ones work just as well? Question posted by Sarah Thu Aug 17 2006 Submit your answer | Reply by Emily

There's a review written by someone who said that the US version works the same as the UK version. I wouldn't personally know though. | | Reply by Vikky
