Either a GHD or Solia! I wouldn't recommend CHI or Sedu for thick hair (my hair is thick and is way below my waist) | About GHD

The iron sold in the USA does not have a hollogram.
We have not changed the pamphlet that comes with the styler because we plan on adding a hologram.
The stylers are designed in Germany and produced in our own factory in Korea. | African kinky hair
I have curly kinky African hair. Has anyone with African heritage used the hair -- does it actually straighten the hair. Also if it touches faces will it burn (am assuming not since its infrared red). Question posted by Shanikqwa Sat Aug 25 2007 Submit your answer | Reply by Helen, ghd Customer Service

We recomend the 2" salon styler for ethnic hair types. Used in combination with our product line, one can tame any sort of hair.
The plates of the styler do not extend to the edge of the wand. Only prolonged close contact could cause burning. | | Reply by Heath

I've used it on my natural hair and my hair isn't that long so I only used the 1" version (besides the 2" version is SOOOO much $$$) anyway, it worked just fine.
Check out my tips and advice. I also posted a review with before and after pics. | | Reply by carlie

this hair straightener will definently straighten your, to maintain that "just straightened" look, you should apply some products of your choice to keep your hair tame and undamaged.
GHD was actually originally formulated for african and other origin hair types, from my experience, GHD is deffo one of the best hair straighteners for unruly or long hair =]
GHD's reach a very high heat, i have burnt myself many times through the years, but so far no scars, with any hair straightener you will burn yourself if you are not careful.
hope that this helped. | strait to curly

The curling action of the ghd styler is amazing. You simply place hair through the plates and then twist the hair up or down. Slide the iron down the hair just as if you were straightening.
The speed and degree of turn will determine the type of curls you create.

I don't want to burn my face or scalp. How hot is the outside of this product? Question posted by Mimi Fri Jun 29 2007 Submit your answer ghd v hai v chi turbo
I have thin frizzy frizzy wavy hair. I don't have extra hair to spare so I need an iron that will not pull my hair out or break it. It's easiest to flatten when I hold the iron with my "other" hand to clamp the iron down to make sure it straightens out but I burn my hand doing this, so cant as it gets too hot!! I know the chi turbo felt stays cool and you dont have to worry about burning your hand or scalp but I'm a bit worried about qc. The pro-tools ceramic iron I have now pulls my hair and I have to go over it with more than one pass, just sounds like its crunching too as I get to the ends. Trying to decide and have it narrowed to these. Read the Solia does not keep away frizz. The Hai convertible sounds good to me and the chi turbo but just read about the ghd. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Question posted by Stacy Fri Jun 15 2007 Submit your answer | Reply by Helen, ghd Customer Service

The new ghd styler (MK 4) is hair porosity sensitive. These means that when using the product on thin or fine hair, the plates produce less heat. This is helpful if you have thin or thick hair.
With most stylers you have to move quickly over one area multiple times. With the ghd only one pass is needed as long as you trust that the iron won't burn your hair.
It won't.
You will use this iron much more slow that others.
You can place it right on your scalp and touch the tip of the styler with ease. |
