The Best Flat Iron. Fact

I have had this flat iron for over a year and I'm just now getting around to writing a review. I had a Sedu before this and after a while of using it, my hair became extremely dry and damaged--despite heat protection. Luckily, it was time for a new one anyway since my Sedu was on its last leg. Initially, I planned on purchasing another Sedu, but decided to try something new. There is a reason why this flat iron is so expensive (although I found mine elsewhere for less). It is the best. Forget the CHI, GHD, Sedu, Solia, or whatever it is you're using to straighten your hair--especially if you have highly textured hair that has not been chemically altered with a perm. My hair is 3c/4a, is very coarse, and thick and I use this at 370-400 degrees. It gets my hair straight in 2 passes. I use a rattail comb to guide the iron and my hair stays fantastic until I wash day if I wrap it up at night. When my hair grows out I will get the 1 1/4, but this iron is the way to go. I've tried a CHI and even with my hair already semi straight, it still did nothing. I've let several of my hair connoisseur and stylists friends test this iron out and they are amazed every time. Try it, you really won't regret it.

I spent $200 on this flat iron thinking, the more money it cost, the better it is for your hair. Was I wrong. I am so disappointed in the iron that I keep going back to my old one. It's too late to return it for a different brand. I just thought if would work better on my hair and it doesn't. If you have thick hair, don't bother buying this iron.
mine broke in a couple of weeks!

Of course, this iron worked well when I first bought it. It straightened my hair very well and left it shiny and smooth. I was wary about buying it because i read reviews about how it would break very easily. I thought to myself, oh i'll take care of it well. Well, it broke after i dropped it once. luckily, i bought it a couple of weeks before i broke it so i could get a full refund from the store. If you do end up buying it you MUST take extra precautions
Significant design issues..

In general I like the FHI flat iron but there are some serious design issues that you should consider when buying one. The most significant thing (that I've noticed) is the very bad swivel cord design. This is an extremely cheap design and the cord *will* eventually fall out of the swivel. How much use you'll get out of the iron before that point seems to vary. I would prefer to see the iron built without the swivel "feature" so that the cord attachment is more durable (untangling or untwisting a cord periodically is a small price to pay for a more reliable iron). The other design issue is that the ceramic heater plates are held into the iron with very cheap plastic clips. If the iron is dropped or used at high temperature for extended periods of time (e.g. straighteners) then the clips will crack and the heater plates will come loose. This could have been fixed with the use of metal clips but even their runway ($400!!) iron still uses the cheap plastic clip design.
A warranty would usually cover such failures but FHI's warranty specifies (other than purchasing directly from them at very high prices) "OTHER SELECT AUTHORIZED BEAUTY PRODUCTS RESELLER" which is *very* ambiguous and seems to give them a good reason not to honor the warranty when you purchase from online retailers (perhaps they aren't in the loop with regard to the 21st century and online shopping?).

I have used these straightners, and I must say they are one of the best. I am transitioning from relaxed to natural and this flat iron gets my hair very straight. It leaves my hair soft and it feels healthy. It will not leave your hair dry like some of the other straightners that I have used.
LOVE IT!!!!

I simply love this flat iron. Like any other tool that is new you have to experiment until you get it right. It glides through my hair easily. I have used sexy straight balm with goldwell highlight protectant and it stopped the breakage. I also use It's a 10 miracle hair mask once a week which will cut down on drying your hair out. Just remember what you take out must be put back. I have used all kinds of flat irons and the FHI platform seems to be the best by far.

I got this iron (1 3/4") from a much cheaper source as I was not willing to spend $195 on it. I am glad I did, as I don't think it's worth that much, but it is definitely a good iron. I bought it to replace my Sedu (after 2 years the plates are starting to fall off), so I had pretty high expectations. The FHI does have more of a tendency to snag/pull hair than the Sedu (which never once pulled my hair, but my hair is softer and shinier after using the FHI than it has ever been with the Sedu. If I could combine the FHI and the Sedu I think I would have found my perfect iron.

My salon uses this flatiron. I have always used the Chi but decided to give it a try. It worked great for the 1st year. Conventiently 1 week after the year warranty ran out it broke. The heating plate on one side just falls out and hangs by the wires. It's really hard/impossible to use. They wont replace it but offered a refurbished flatiron that I could buy for not much less than a new one. I wouldn't think this was such a big deal if the exact same situation hadn't happened at my Salon where the girl who cuts my hair had the plate fall out on her also. Not good and I will def go back to my CHI which I have had for years and still works!

This straightener is great when it works, but I had mine for less than six months and the plates began to fall out. I called FHI and they stated that the company I bought it from (either Ebay or Amazon, brand new) was not an authorized retailer and that they would not fix it, despite the fact that I still had all of my receipts and the warranty information. I tried to glue the plate back in and within another month the other one began to fall out. This is very frustrating when the product is over $100.
Badly pulls and snags hair

I recently purchased the 1 1/4" FHI Heat Platform hoping that for a good price I would get the results that they advertize. I was hugely disappointed. The first reason is that it is heavy and cumbersome and its hard to wield it and hold it. The main reason for its poor performance is that it pulls the hair and rips and snags it like a cheap flat iron. You can actually hear the hair being ripped, it was an awful experience, I almost cried, having spent so much money and having read many good reviews about it, it was all so convincing. I don't have especially fine hair that gets pulled and snagged and breaks, I have medium thickness hair, and quite straight, but I just wanted the sleek silky look (I have a chin length bob, and I wanted the "Asian" effect...). Also it didnt really straighten my hair making it sleeker, it kept the poufiness and volume which I didnt want, no matter how many glides I went through - it didn't make it sleek and ripped and broke my hair. Its horrible.

Thisis by far the best flat iron ever. I used a CHI for 3 years. It did a good job. I bought the FHI 1 3/4 in. Platform Ceramic Tourmaline with Nano Fuzeion....and it is incredible. I have thick coarse black hair to my waist, and it looks silky, shiny, and it is soft. The iron is lightweight, and the controls are located so you do not keep bumping into it like the CHI. Your hand does not get tired. The wide plates cut straightening my hair in half the time.

I am African-American with relaxed hair. After using the FHI my hair is silkier, shinier, softer, smoother and has more body. FHI locks in so much moisture that my hair looks a shade darker. I even use it on my damp hair with unbelievable results. I use it at 370 degrees. Make sure you play with the temperature settings to find the best one for you. I have owned Solia and Hai digistick flat irons. They didn't come close to giving my these kind of results. They say FHI is the trade's best kept secret. It won't be for long.

I am African American with relaxed hair. Hair is silkier, softer, smoother, shinier, and straighter. This flat iron locked in so much moisture in my hair it has made my hair look a shade darker. I have that moist, glossy, look to my hair now. I use it at 370 degrees. At lesser temperatures the result was not the same. Be sure to experiment with the heat settings to find your ideal one. I have owned the Solia. Then upgraded the to HAI Digistick. And, now the best so far the FHI 1 inch Platform. They say the the FHI is the trade industries best kept secret. It won't be for long.

i've been through them all. chi, hai, hot tools, corioliss, T3, solia, you name it. The Platform is hands down the best. if you can make an african girl (straight from the bush) look like she is asian, then enough said. this flat iron has everyone (i mean people i work with and see everyday that know what my hair looks like in its natural state, in addition to people i meet on the street) ask me "Is that your real hair?" then again, enough said. when i use this iron, my hair looks and feels like the highest quality Remy hair you can find on the market. yeah again...enough said. Use the nano 2000 blow dryer too. it works wonders.
Pulled my hair

I bought this at Ulta, tried it once (twice), and it pulled my hair (the way the plates are designed at the end catches your hair). If you're using a flat iron, and chemically treating you hair- pulling and breaking hair is not something you want from a flat iron- especially not at this price.
Great performance, not so great durability.

my FHI Platform was the love of my life. It works wonderfully! The only reason it did not receive 5 stars is because it's durability is not the best. I am kind of rough on my flat irons and this one was all messed up once it reached the one year mark. The plates were slipping out and then finally the cord seperated from the iron. :( Thats my only concern with this one...but it works well nonetheless.
LOVED IT...until it broke...

I bought the FHI Iron about a year in a half ago, and it has been an amazing flat iron. I have extremely coarse, dry hair that is wavy, frizzy and poofy. The FHI not only made my hair look naturally straight, it wasn't harsh on it either.
Although to my horror when I went to turn it on last night, it simply wouldn't. The plates wouldn't warm up, heck the light wouldn't even turn on! I have never dropped it, I kept it in the same place at all times and was very gentle with it.
So just a word of warning, LOOK AT THE WARRANTY INFO!
If a manufacturer has a long warranty policy, it means they have faith in their product and are willing to back it up.
I'm getting a metropolis right away, 10 year warranty!
