I have had this flat iron for over a year and I'm just now getting around to writing a review. I had a Sedu before this and after a while of using it, my hair became extremely dry and damaged--despite heat protection. Luckily, it was time for a new one anyway since my Sedu was on its last leg. Initially, I planned on purchasing another Sedu, but decided to try something new. There is a reason why this flat iron is so expensive (although I found mine elsewhere for less). It is the best. Forget the CHI, GHD, Sedu, Solia, or whatever it is you're using to straighten your hair--especially if you have highly textured hair that has not been chemically altered with a perm. My hair is 3c/4a, is very coarse, and thick and I use this at 370-400 degrees. It gets my hair straight in 2 passes. I use a rattail comb to guide the iron and my hair stays fantastic until I wash day if I wrap it up at night. When my hair grows out I will get the 1 1/4, but this iron is the way to go. I've tried a CHI and even with my hair already semi straight, it still did nothing. I've let several of my hair connoisseur and stylists friends test this iron out and they are amazed every time. Try it, you really won't regret it.

i had the first one and it simply stopped working. i had to purchase another one. nothing last forever. I now have the upgraged version. this iron is so amazing it not only straightens the hair it leaves it silky and shiny and it never snags the hair it is a great iron. i have tried the chi which i still have but it does not compare

i've been through them all. chi, hai, hot tools, corioliss, T3, solia, you name it. The Platform is hands down the best. if you can make an african girl (straight from the bush) look like she is asian, then enough said. this flat iron has everyone (i mean people i work with and see everyday that know what my hair looks like in its natural state, in addition to people i meet on the street) ask me "Is that your real hair?" then again, enough said. when i use this iron, my hair looks and feels like the highest quality Remy hair you can find on the market. yeah again...enough said. Use the nano 2000 blow dryer too. it works wonders.

I bought this at Ulta, tried it once (twice), and it pulled my hair (the way the plates are designed at the end catches your hair). If you're using a flat iron, and chemically treating you hair- pulling and breaking hair is not something you want from a flat iron- especially not at this price.
Great performance, not so great durability.

my FHI Platform was the love of my life. It works wonderfully! The only reason it did not receive 5 stars is because it's durability is not the best. I am kind of rough on my flat irons and this one was all messed up once it reached the one year mark. The plates were slipping out and then finally the cord seperated from the iron. :( Thats my only concern with this one...but it works well nonetheless.

I bought the FHI Iron about a year in a half ago, and it has been an amazing flat iron. I have extremely coarse, dry hair that is wavy, frizzy and poofy. The FHI not only made my hair look naturally straight, it wasn't harsh on it either.
Although to my horror when I went to turn it on last night, it simply wouldn't. The plates wouldn't warm up, heck the light wouldn't even turn on! I have never dropped it, I kept it in the same place at all times and was very gentle with it.
So just a word of warning, LOOK AT THE WARRANTY INFO!
If a manufacturer has a long warranty policy, it means they have faith in their product and are willing to back it up.
I'm getting a metropolis right away, 10 year warranty!

I love my flat iron and use it frequently, but I never received my paul mitchel super skinny styling gel, I have inquired several times. I won't be purchasing any folica products until I receive my gel.. Thanks.....

My stylist uses the GHD on me to amazing results and in only one pass. Oddly, this doesnt do the same even at the approximate same heat of 370F. My hair required several passes at 370 to get it straight and while soft and silky and bouncy - still kind of fuzzy at the ends and not super shiny or super straight. The GHD made my hair look super straight, slick and modern and it would stay like that humidity proof for several days. I live in NYC city where the humidty is disgusting - but my hair stayed perfect. I paid significantly less than retail for the platform - almost half the price of the GHD 1.75...but now I wish I just paid the extra for the GHD. But I think 225 is too much for a hair iron that may or may not last past the year. Although I must say that I maybe could have gotten the same results if I set the platform at the highest setting - but I dont see why I should subject my hair to extreme heat when I can get the same result at a lower heat setting on another iron. This is still a good iron but I would have been upset to have paid retail for it. It does deliver, softly straight, bouncy/volume silky feel hair - but not shiny and still kind of puffy in a way that will turn frizzy the moment exposed to humidity. I have a lot of fine to medium thickness hair, prone to frizziness and this iron would not save me from frizzies. A good iron if you dont have an issue with frizziness but not if you do and you dont want to subject your hair to 450F which should only be used on really coarse hair anyway. Suggest GHD for humidity defying straight, modern sleek shiny hair. Unfortunately, I spent my money on the FHI so I will do with until maybe the summer when I will save up for a GHD when I will REALLY need it.

I have thick, coarse, wavy, frizzy hair and this iron makes it look like I was born with shiny, frizz-free, stick straight hair.

I LOVE THIS FLAT IRON. However the first time I used it I burnt my hair bad and I had my beautician show me how to use it properly. Spray a light heat-protector (Miracle 10 is the best I've found) and I put CHI silk infusion on my ends. Then I start at the root, clamp down and glide to the ends...slowly. IF YOU DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR HAIR, IT WILL SNAP AND FREY AT THE ENDS. Following my stylists tips, I have salon quality hair. I am obsessed with hair tools and products...this is the BEST flat iron I have used. (I own a sedu, I love it too but it doesn't get as hot as the FHI)

This Flat Iron is absolutely Fabulous! I have had it about 4 years and it is still looks and works like it is new. It leaves the hair smooth silky and shiny. I recommend it highly.

Never flat ironed before and usually airdry. I was tired of having boring hair and decided to try a flat iron. I looked high and low for one that I could use without doing heat damage to my fine,thin hair. I got the "Platform" because it has the variable temp control which was important for me because of my hair type. I tried it using the FHI Hot Sauce and WOW! My hair came out shiny and with more body! I love my FHI Platform!

Like most people I did alot of research when buying this flat iron. I ended up buying three different FHI flat irons. I bought the one with the variable heat and I wasnt impressed so I returned it and got the technique with one heating range that one was good and alot better than the variable heat BUT the best FHI that they have out there is the platform FHI flat iron. This is the upgrade to the technique. I am black with a relaxer and because the platform is so good I have decided to grow out my relaxer. I hope this helps someone!!! Get the PLATFORM FHI!!!

I have african american hair. This flat iron gets really hot. I gets hair pretty straight. The iron is easy to hold and use. A lot of professional stylist have this iron. Blow dry your hair first then use a heat protectant spray, then flat iron. U will a salon quality results.

After researching for weeks, I finally purchased FHI Platform 1 ¼” iron. Even though I did not try using GHD, Solia, Sedu…. all should work the same, but FHI Platform or Technique series will not damage your hair as much as other irons. If you go to the official FHI website it says after using it for a while, it can actually improve your hair texture. That is why I purchased this iron. This iron works great. I think 1” or 1 ¼” is best size for short or long hair. I have long hair so I purchased 1 ¼”but I prefer 1”. I think I will get another FHI platform or technique in 1 for a backup. The difference between Platform and Technique is that the Platform model you can control the temperature. Personally I think the Technique is better because it is lot cheaper than the Platform model and the temperature is fixed at 410 for Technique model. I put the temperature to about 375 to 410. So for my next one I will save some money and purchase the FHI Technique 1”.

I love the straightener. It gets nice and hot! I curl, flip and straighten my hair. Everyone compliments my hair all the time.
