Product Rating: 4 Curly, Fragile, and would reccomend
Reviewer: Elle from New England   Thu Sep 10 2009

I was a HUGE skeptic but once I tried it I was impressed. I am Puerto Rican and Irish...So yes girls the doo is Cur-lay!!!! I also color it from time to time. When I use this product I am generally using it as a flatiron protective. While still in the shower, I squeeze the excees water from my hair, I put it on the mid-shaft to ends of my hair and comb through (in the stile I plan on wearing). Then let it AIR DRY. Once dry I flat iron. The hair line is where I tend to be most pampering that Even when dry I add a touch more of the sauce to give extra protection. Getting the right amounts on how much to use is all trial and error, so be patient. Also I have found doing this technique on rainy days my hair holds. I use no gels, hairspray or any alcohol products to maintain my flatiron style. When using it as the product directions for blow drying, I have found that again portions is the key. I also use nothing but boars head brushes to get the ultimate smoothness. On a side note to the one review that it made her hair frizzy I honestly have to say OPERATOR ERROR. Also try mixing with the CHI silk Infusion; I found they work well together if you are drying naturally v/s blow drying. I gave this a 4 star rating since I have found a product that does everything I am looking for to meet my needs. Try the Fig line of WEN products by Chaz Dean. My hair is very fragile and this not only protects, and restores luster, it is also my Hair shampoo and conditioner all in one. It is costly but worth it's weight in gold.

Product Rating: 2 Not what it's cracked up to be!

I am an african-american woman with type 4a/4b natural hair. Yesterday I bought Hot Sauce and after using it I am quite disappointed. Upon the suggestion of two women from two different beauty supply stores (one African-American and one caucasian) I decided to give it a try. I was apprehensive initially due to the size of the bottle and the price. I have no problem paying for a product if it will work. I have two FHI flat irons and absolutely love them! I know that the flat irons from this company are some of the best in the business, so I thought that Hot Sauce would be no exception. I saw absolutely no difference in the quality of straightness of my hair, nor was my hair any shinier than what they claimed it would be. Although my hair had body, I don't credit it to the Hot Sauce; it's like that anyway when I flat iron it. Perhaps I need to have a professional use it on my hair to see the desired results, because as it stands right now it was a waste of money.

Product Rating: 1 Little to no effect for African-American Hair

I used this product with my new tourmaline-ceramic flat iron. If you have relaxed hair that tends to be dry and/or brittle, don't bother with this fancy stuff, just get yourself some oils or grease - they prevented breakage much better than this hot sauce.

Product Rating: 5 Cannot Live Without....
Reviewer: Chantalle from Miami, FL  Sat Jun 27 2009

I have search my lifetime (32 years) for the right products for my hair. I am a light skinned Jamaica with very curly hair. I get a relaxer every 4-6 months and have fairly long hair (to my bra strap). I blow dry and then flat iron my hair so I was looking for a product to protect my hair from the heat. Since I've been getting relaxers my hair is much more prone to split ends. I started using Hot Sauce about six months ago and I have noticed a dramatic decrease in my split ends. I think the only reason I actually had split ends is become I went twice as long as I normally do before my last trim. This product is AMAZING! I make sure I never run out. I currently have a 4 bottle stash to make sure that doesn't happen!

Product Rating: 1 A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!
Reviewer: Krystal from Southfield  Mon Jun 22 2009

WHEN I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT I WAS THINKING THAT IT WOULD WORK LIKE IT "SAYS" IT DOES, BUT IN ACTUALITY IT DOESN'T. WHEN I APLLIED THIS TO MY HAIR AND BLOW DRIED IT THE PRODUCT MADE MY HAIR FRIZZY AND POOFY AT THEN ENDS. WHEN I FINISHED STYLING MY HAIR I WAS STILL DISAPPOINTED. AFTER ABOUT 2 WASHES MY ENDS WERE BACK TO NORMAL!!!!THAT'S WHY I SAW IT'S A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!

Product Rating: 5 Best heat protector
Reviewer: anonymous from Silicon Valley, CA  Wed Jun 03 2009

I am Puerto Rican with course, tight, natually curly hair. I've been through about five different heat protecting products and this is the best one I've tried. The directions are also very quick and simple compared to other products I've used. My hair gets damaged pretty easily when flat ironing but with this product my hair didn't get damaged at all; it was perfectly smooth. It also helps hold the curl from my iron. The bottle is small but worth every penny. In conjunction with a great flat iron you'll love it.

Product Rating: 4 Good thermal protector

I like the FHI hotsauce alot, it does what it saids, it protects my hair from the flatiron and it is soft and moisturized after I use it. some people have the misconception that it is suppose to straighten the hair but that is not the purpose of this product, it is suppose to keep the hair protected from your hot tools and keep it moisturized the jojoba crystals are melted into the hairstrand when you use a hot tool which is what it does for me. the price is a bit much but I still buy it when I can.

This is seriously not worth your time if your have problems with keeping your hair smooth and silky try Fekkai hair products, this product did nothing to my hair....

Product Rating: 3 Don't understand the hype...
Reviewer: Amanda from Iowa  Sun Aug 31 2008

I bought FHI Heat Hot Sauce, I will say that the small bottle isn't worth $14.00 dollars, and it doesn't work as well as people are hyping it up to be. My hair wasn't pin straight like I'd like it to be but the ends of my hair visibly looked put together and felt smoother. Overall, I don't know if I'd purchase this product again, it's not worth the price of a small bottle.

Product Rating: 2 Not Impressed!
Reviewer: Amanda from IA  Wed Aug 06 2008

I gave into the hype of the FHI Heat Hot Sauce and bought a bottle for $14.50. I was excited to go home and wash my hair and try this out, but needless to say, I applied it mid length and down to my ends when it was dry and it only stayed straight for 1 day. Sure, my ends were silky and smooth but the rest of the product is a gimmick, it's not worth $14.00, so please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I still have a little over half a bottle left so I'll try using it on damp hair and let it air dry and than straighten it. Something that's worth spending over $14.00 dollars for is the Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide Smoother, it works 10x better than this does. Also, I don't like the fact that you have to let it sit for 1 min. for it to 'work' or whatever, it's ok for somebody that doesn't do anything and that doesn't go to school or work, but I do, so it's a bit time consuming anyway when I have to flat iron my hair and than when I use this product, it takes twice as long. Sorry but I'm not falling for the hype if I use it again and it fails to straighten well or it doesn't stay straight.

Reviewer: Tina from Orange County, CA from Orange County, CA  Sat Jun 07 2008

Hello! I don't normally write reviews but I felt this product definately warrants some major kudos! I am a product junkie and I've tried a lot of different products over the years. Anytime I've purchased a product I've always done my research and I read all the reviews. After reading some of the review for the FHI Hotsauce I decided to purchase it. WOW!!! The first time I used it I was speeachless! My hair (which I've always kept healthy) was damaged when I had to go to a different hair dresser for my Japenese straightening - long story short - for about the last six months I noticed my hair has been dry and brittle with a ton of breakage and split ends. I've been using some great moisturizing treatments which are helping a lot but my ends were still splitting and breaking. I needed a good heat protectant and then I found Hotsauce. My search is over - this product is AMAZING! It makes my hair soft, silky and reduced the split ends and breakage (split ends by the way can never be repaired they must be cut off) BUT FHI has definately stopped them from getting worse. I have thick course hair so I used about a quarter size on damp hair and style. If I flat Iron, I use more of it (only a bit) on the ends to protect. Never feels greasy or weighs my hair down. Trust me - purchase this product, you won't regret it!!!

This is a very good product. Great on my hair, repaired the split ends and you only have to use a nickel size amount. Would definitely and have purchased again!

Product Rating: 4 Pretty good.....
Reviewer: Sarah from Cleveland Ohio  Thu May 01 2008

I just bought this product a few days ago and have used it twice now. I must say that my ends, feel and look much better, smoother. I dont flat iron but i do curl my hair w/ a curling iron. the ends seem to hold the curl better/longer, and dont look so dried out or frayed. It also had added some shine to my hair. I like it...its pricey but to me its worth every penny. Plus a little seems to go a long way. I'm sticking with it. I have no complaints at all about it.

This product worked good when I used my flat iron. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but it did work well. I would buy this product again.

This hot sauce does exactly what it's supposed to do. I apply this before I use my flat iron or any heat, for that matter, on my hair. It left my hair silky and smooth. Definitely use this product regularly.

Product Rating: 5 HOT stuff!

As someone in the biochemical l field, I feel strongly compelled that I should clarify a few misconceptions for those with a few angsts over certain things that they may not be well informed about, & esp 4 those considering making this purchase or a re-purchase.

1. Alcohols
In chemistry, an alcohol is any organic compound in which a hydroxyl group (-OH) is bound to a carbon atom of an alkyl or substituted alkyl group. The general formula for a simple acyclic alcohol is CnH2n+1OH.
~Wikipedia

In otherwords, there are such things like fatty alcohols too, not just ethanol & isopropyl alcohol that most of the population only seems to know. If u look at most conditioners, cetearyl alcohol (a combo of cetyl & stearyl alcohol) are your most common ingredients if not around 2nd on the list next to water. Omega fatty acids are also on the list of "alcohols". Google: fatty alcohols. Therefore, "alcohols" are your bestfriend (so long as u have hair, skin & nails & are alive).

2. Silicones
Especially amodimethicone, nothing comes close to that silicone when it comes to color & heat protecting & its proven to seal in moisture as well. There are so many studies from big pharmaceutical companies & very well reputated testing facilities & universities that I'm just going to leave to it to this: GOOGLE IT. Even just reading the titles (if nothing else) you can see how well they perform & just how widely they are used. They are also in some of your face serums & almost ALL your hair shine "polishes" & sprays. Amo's little sister is called phenyl trimethicone, if I'm not mistaken, as I've read from my last & most recent research on almost every silicone out there.

3. Split Ends
If they're there, they're staying there till u cut them off. This stuff hydrates, coats & seals them so that they aren't so rough & so visibile, but most importantly, so that they don't travel further up the hair shaft. Any stylist will tell u. The longer u wait to have them cut, the worse they'll really get. This stuff just prevents them from getting really REALLY ugly & keeps the healthy part of your hair as healthy as possible so that it is strong enough to keep the splits from traveling up any further. Cut them off & take care of the healthy hair u have now b4 u butcher it.

4. A little goes a looooong way. For people with fine, very fine, and/or oily hair types, it would be ur best bet to spread this stuff on damp hair, water it down a little or even water down enough to put it in a spray bottle & just take a go at it, or as some1 in the Q&A said, just go halfway down & to the ends. The longer ur fine/oily hair is, the easier it is to weigh it down. The thicker & dryer ur hair is, the more u can goof at just how much more ur hair can take. Less is always more, u can always put more in, but taking it out requires a lot more of u than u probably have time for.

5. Lastly, heat styling everyday is never a good thing unless ur doing a heat concentrated oil/moisture/reconstructing "treatment" every other day cuz the hair u see is already dead. If its past the skin & u can't feel it being cut, then its dead. So be good to it.

If u don't like something but don't know too much about it 2 begin with, GOOGLE it b4 ur rip on it.

If ur natural texture is anything but something close to being str8 then I highly recommend a light mist some kind of fixative (like a high-end flexible hold hairspray) if u have a problem of ur hair not staying str8 esp in humid conditions.

They didn't claim NOT 2 have silicone in it. They just said their product is not based on just that. That's where most of ur styling damage protection comes from anyway (if its the right given silicone). Take something, like say Biosilk or Citreshine, or other popular hair serums & products out there, & for a lot of them their main tool is mostly silicone (gets a lil 2 greasy sometimes too). Silicones aren't always the most cooperative in holding a lot of water/oil hair moisturing stuff & can separate right away. "Hot Sauce" utilizes jojoba oils (in the form of crystals which makes them suspendable) & fatty alcohols to hydrate, & protein to & repair holes in the hair's cuticles (again, only the surface gets repaired & the moisture does go to the center when u use heat). HOWEVER, split ends are when the WHOLE SHAFT is ruined, there's no cure @ this point & time (& b4 writing this). All of what I just said explains why people with semi-damaged to healthy hair see a difference while others (esp with hopelessly damaged hair) don't. Moisture is restored, along with that is strength, elasticity, shine, & temporary cover up of not-so-badly damaged hair & not-way-too-many split ends.

But ya, $28 for 5 oz is asking 4 quite a bit there, maybe 1 day I'll make the bigger & cheaper but even more pimped out version of it 1 day, LOL!

I liked this product. It made my hair very shiny and I ran the flat iron through my hair once. And I lasted days even in the humity

Reviewer: jill   Mon Apr 14 2008

Not 100% sure I really need to use this stuff but when I do, I really like it. It makes the ends nice and smooth when using the flat iron. Not sure I'll continue to buy more (it's pricey) but do like it.
