My niece turned me on the this iron. It is awesome. I have tried Hot tools irons (which I liked) but this one blew me away. It is small, easy to handle, and heats up really fast. Easy to pack when traveling. The temperature settings are really great...when there is humidity I turn it up. I highly recommend this!
It works on thick curly/coarse hair!

This flat iron has allowed me to do something that I've been wanting to do for a long time--- my own hair. Now I can wash, blowdry and flat iron my own hair (total time 2 hours and I have a LOT of hair). My hairdresser uses the same brand, but when he does it, my hair comes out super straight and kind of flat. When I do it, it still has some volume and LOTS of body. The FHI iron is great! By the way, I am mixed (Black and Jewish) and I have long, curly wavy, thick hair.

I ordered this fhi iron hoping to control the damage on my hair that i got with my other flat iron, Gold N Hot. I looked hard and long on the web for a ceramic iron and this one came out on top. I have had this iron for about a month and it is GREAT! I have very thick relaxed hair and i can straigten my hair now with one pass through in only 30 minutes as opposed to and hour with the Gold N hot. For all black girls out there,I reccomend using this with kera care silken seal serum, not the liquid, and TRUST, you'll get nice shiny staright hair. It also delivers quick, i ordered it the saturday before easter and got it on tuesday and i live in Toronto!

I recently purchased this product after reading all the reviews and other online reviews. I am a Pacific Islander woman with wavy curly fizzy hair. After purchasing this product I was surprised to find out that my $30 flat iron from Sally's Beauty Store was still better. The one positive thing about the FHI was that the plates were smooth and it glides without pulling hair, however, it took 3 to 4 times to run through my hair in order to get the desired straight that I was looking for, and the next day my hair was either frizzy or curly again. I am so disappointed with this product, it may work better for another person, but definately not for me. My cheap flat iron took less time to do my hair than the FHi which was very disappointing, because I thought the FHI would cut time in half compare to the cheap flat iron. I do not recommend this product to those with wavy or curly frizzy hair. I am returning this product and I am going to try the Solia flat iron. Hope this helps readers

I have never felt so strongly about a product that I felt the need to give it a review for all to read, but WOW!!! I have used several other flat irons, some cheap and some insanely expensive. My last iron, a Chi just experienced a plastic meltdown. Needless to say I wanted something that would work and not break the bank! I purchased the FHI 1-inch flat iron after recommendations from my stylist and hurried home to use it. Expecting a long and tedious process as with other flat irons I made sure I had adequate time to straighten. Much to my surprise I plugged this bad boy in, it preheated and I straightened in less than 10 minutes (My hair is curls into ringlets almost shoulder length). One pass over each section of hair, no tugging, and no wavy roots...what more can a girl ask for? My hair is shiny, straight, and free of frizz. I feel pretty confident in saying that this is the best flat iron that I have used and it was A LOT cheaper than some of the more popular brands on this site. I will definitely purchase an FHI iron again.

I have thick, long, wavy (unruly) hair. This product (FHI Ceramic Flat Iron with Variable Temperature - 1") enables me to straighten my entire head in under 20 mins and my strands stay perfect for a couple of days (as long as I keep my head dry in the shower). Also, by getting the 1" plates I can also curl the ends under without getting out a separate curling iron (wider plates would not serve this dual purpose). Worth every dime!
Love it...Love it....Love it

I purchased my FHI after my stylist purchased hers and used them on my hair on the first use. We were both impressed. After receiving mine, I shampooed my hair and dried my hair. After styling my hair, my husband and step-daughter both told me I looked like I just came from the salon. I was so excited. After those comments, it was definately worth the purchase. I look forward to Folica offering the FHI minis for my spikes.

I purchased the FHI iron on 12/28/05 and I received it the first week in Jan. I heard about the iron on Oprah, when a couple of the stylists had used it when making-over a few AA women. I was impressed by the results and I decided to my research. This is my first ceramic iron so I do not have anything else to compare it to. I read many reviews, but found little from AA women with my type of hair. I went out and bought many hair products to use with the iron and decided to use the trial and error method. I've only used the iron 2 times, but I must say that it gets very hot. Oil and heat adds the silky sheen that we need. These are the keys to success for most AA hair types. Although you do not want to apply to much heat or too many hair products, especially if your hair is already relaxed. This could cause damage. You will have to play around with the heat temp. I use it between 370 -400 F. I spoke with stylist and she suggested using a building process for moisturing starting with a good shampoo ( I use Mizani at home) and then a good conditioner (Neutogena Triple Moisture, Motions, Dudley's ..it varies). She suggested wrapping the hair( at home I use Motions foam and re-wet with water bottle), and sitting under the dryer. Once dry add Dudley's curling wax (for a thermal protectant) to the hair(no more than a dime sized amount on entire head or a little on each strand) and Razaac light oil spray to each section before flat ironing. I also have the Biosilk Therapy, but I have not used it yet. The results were much better the second time around. I think that it definitely takes practice and you have to figure out which temperature and hair products work best for your hair type.
I think the iron is great...it is light and easy to use and handle. The barrel does not get over heated and it only snags if I do not have my hair evenly placed in the iron. I would not use it every day, so make sure you wrap your hair at night with a silk scarf and comb it down in the morning.
awesome!
