Straightens coarse hair easily.
Good Iron if you don't have long or really thick hair

I purchased this iron less than a year ago when my T3 tourmaline iron purchase turned out to be a big mistake.
I have naturally curly hair that is long, and very resistant to heat, & chemicals.
The first time I flat-ironed my hair it took about 2 hours, and came out beautifully. It lasted about 3 days and then I had to wash it.
Since it takes me so long to flat iron my hair the handle which has little grooves in it left some of my fingers sore and calloused from gripping the handle for so long (2hrs).
After that, I wasn't sure if I would keep the iron because my fingers and hand felt so sore.
Now, when I use the iron I have to where a glove to protect my hand which helps but makes it harder for me to flat iron my hair as well.
Honestly, my iron is still in perfect condition, gets really hot, and works well but if I could do it over again I wouldn't own this flat iron.
My suggestion: if you have naturally curly hair that is thick, and takes a long time to flat iron....get something else.
Does its job

I bought this iron from folica.com and I received a free pouch with it.
I like the iron and it does a great job. Add hot sauce by FHI and use the iron your hair is straight and shiny until you wash your hair. People comment when I straighten my hair that it is shiny and straight.
Great investment and much cheaper to purchase from folica.com than anywhere else.
Good, but....

I've been using my FHI for a little over a year. It worked really great straightening my thick wavy hair. However, shortly after the warranty period expired, the plates started melting the surrounding plastic. Now I have to buy another flat iron - it won't be the FHI. Maybe the Sedu will last longer.

I have ordered this flat iron before and I loved it then but when it went missing I just went to the beauty supply and bought another brand. This was a very bad idea. After using a FHI flat iron for more than a year the difference was extremely noticable. This flat iron has an adjustable heat setting so you can be sure to get the straightening effect that you want. It's the best on the market for maintaining a smooth straight style.

I bought this flat iron after having tried both the sedu and the solia (which are good as well). I really like this flat iron. It's lightweight, yet durable. It was easy to use and manuever around the hair to create twists. It didn't leave me tired, annoyed, and in pain holding the iron like the solia did. As for the results, it is not as sleek as the SEDU, but it definately a time saver it took me all of 10-15 minutes to do my whole hair, and it looked smooth and straight and stayed that way all week. What I like about it is that it is lightweight, get's really hot (450 degrees), takes a short amount of time to flat iron my hair, and the results are smooth, frizz free straight hair, what's their not to love.
i love it!! CHI WHO??? ;-)

i am a african american woman with very natural thick coarse hair...its like a brillo pad..lol. anywho, i purchased the fhi after using my soroity sister's fhi. This iron works wonders it presses my hair silky stR8, with out burning it. My press can last about a week....which is a very long time for women with natural hair. This is sooo much better than any other flat iron i have EVER used..including the CHI!!! i do want to add, i use protective products....like the design essentials' silkner or kera cares's silk n seal, as well conditioning my hair when i wash it. this helps alot...Use good products. if you buy cheap and you get cheap results.
Wonderful!!

This flat iron straightens my coarse hair very well. I use this once a week after I wash my hair, and it stays straight until I wash it again. I reccommend this for those with very coarse or relaxed (African American) hair. Just don't forget to deep condition and use a thermal spray for heat protection!!!
Not pleased.

I have had this model iron since 2003 and wanted to replace it but was shocked when I found a $160 price tag at my local store. When I found it here for half that I thought it was too good to be true and I believe that it was. The red plates are supposed to darken when they are heated and this one they stay bright red. At the highest setting it was nowhere near as hot as my old one and I am left to think that this is not the same. I'm not sure why they would be different...but I am also not sure why Folica.com is able to sell it for 1/2 price. Just beware. I'm sure the iron works fine for most people, but it is NOT what I was expecting and I don't think I will be purchasing from this site again.
This FHI Flat Iron is fabulous...

It straightens, it curls, it shapes in every way without drying my hair. I have a short cut with blended highlights and the variable heat settings make all the difference. It heats up quickly. This is a must-have! I highly recommend it.

Love it, Love it, Love it! I'm an African-American female and I can't tell you how many compliments I've received. Even my hairdresser asked if I've been seeing another stylist! It was hard to get a technique down at first, but i got better with time. Don't give up if your hair doesn't come out perfect the first few trys!

i bought this for my mother who has hair on the shorter side. after she blow dries it she just smoothes it over with this iron and it comes out nice. i tried the iron my self and it heats up quick, and the plates glide nice and smooth over the hair. it leaves the hair nice and smooth and straight. i have no complaints about this flat iron.
From Coarse To Silky!

After shampooing and conditioning, and blow drying a head of hair that is naturally kinky and coarse this flat iron went through the hair easier than slicing a piece of cake!
Result: Pure silk in the end!
For someone who's still using a Chi iron or a professional using an oven with a thermal flat iron- make your job easier with this iron. I would highly recommend this iron.
I've had the FHI iron for almost three months and still loving it. Excellent quality!
IT'S OK but pretty good

Good deal for the price I guess but does not work as well as the Chi or Tru Ceramic that I had previously. I live in Houston, TX so I am always fighting the humidity and while the others would withstand in the wet air, with this one my hair is wavy again by the end of the afternoon. Not a bad product...just not as good as the others. The price was right though. :)
Great product

I decided to get this iron because it was a good price and I wanted to get something less mainstream than something like the CHI. However I highly regretted it as soon as I got it! When you clamp down the iron if you look carefully you will see that the plates don't close completely. Only the end of the plates do! (unless you clamp it down very firmly which will cause your hair to burn more). I returned it because I want the my hair to receive EVEN heat distribution.
I've Finally Found an Iron to Love

My husband purchased this iron for me and I love it. I'm African American with healthy, although coarse, color-treated hair. I've been trying forever to find an iron that gives me the same look that a professional stylist does. I tried the CHI and it made my hair hard and brittle. I returned it and purchased a generic CHI, which in my opinon worked better. However, my new iron still didn't leave me with a silky finish. Furthermore, after a day or two the humid NC weather made my hair frizzy and brittle looking. In comes FHI! Now my hair is silky straight and stays that way for days. Another added bonus is that it takes half the time that the other flat irons took to straighten my hair. It really just glides through. If your searching for an iron to love, I definitely suggest trying the FHI.
I love my FHI but . . .

I've had my FHI for a year or 2 now (can't remember exactly when I bought it). It still works great except for the fact the the protective coating has worn off the edges of the plates - not the flat surface. I didn't pay much attention to that fact until I started noticing that I'm loosing some hair each time I run the iron through my hair. Darn! I would have continued to use the iron until it stopped working, but I don't want to continue to loose hair each time I use it, which is pretty much every day.
