Don't buy if you have tight curly frizzy hair

So I bought this flat iron because of the amazing reviews. I have tight curly hair (3c/4a) African American hair that is fine, but I have a lot of it. The first week I used the FHI flat iron, I was not impressed. But, I decided to give it another try because I didn't use great products and got lazy after blow drying my hair and took big chunks. So, next week I used anti-frizz products and Chi silk infusion and I parted my hair in tiny sections and flat iron. It took me two hours to flat iron my hair and I had it on 370. I had to pass each section through the flat iron at least three times. After all that work my hair turned out great. But here is the catch, as soon as I turned on my heat for 10 minutes my hair poofed as if I didn't even flat iron my hair. I went ice skating the same night, I worked up a little sweat and but the rink was cold and my hair was completely gone. The next morning I woke and my hair was extremely poofy and frizzy. I tried to use the flat iron again to go over my hair and even though it was hot my hair was frizzy. You would think because this flat iron get really hot that the straightening job would last. But, it didn't I am going to trade it in and get the CHI. My Revlon can do a better job than this flat iron. Don't waste your money unless you have a perm, which I don't or really straight hair. The pictures show what type of hair texture I have, the second picture is after I straightened it and before it became poofy.

I love these flat irons. I am an african american with natural tight curly hair. I normally straigten my hair with marcel flat irons but the stress of the varying temperature, arms becoming exhausted, and going back and forth from the stove kept my hair straightening to the bare minimum. This flat iron is great b/c it doesn't burn the hair and can be used for any hair style I choose to do! It only take one to two passes over each section and I'm done. No need to keep running over each piece to get it silky straight. My roommate borrowed this flat iron from me and bought herself one the same day!!! The only bad part about this flat iron is the same gripe I have with all ceramic flat iron... that Ceramic smell that lingers in your hair. But, other than that, my hair look great!!
dont get these if you have very curly hair

FHI vs SEDU

I went back in forth between purchasing the sedu or the FHI. I believe in giving products serious consideration and evaluation before purchasing because I hate to waste money. After careful consideration i decided to purchase the FHI and I am glad that I did. It straightens my hair as If i went to a beauty salon and got it done. Finally a straight iron that I am actually satisfied with. Though every woman's hair is different so is every flat iron. You know your hair and only want the best for it. My advice look at girls who take care of their hair on a daily basis..I know that a woman who takes care of her hair uses good products. Find out what works for you!

I have bought several straightens and this by far is the
best tool I have purchased. I makes my hair shine and and straighten the first pull through so I am not damaging my hair with the heat. My hair is straight without a lot maintenance too it. Highly recommend this tool for anyones collection. This tool gives you professional quality hair care.

I purchased this iron less than a year ago when my T3 tourmaline iron purchase turned out to be a big mistake.
I have naturally curly hair that is long, and very resistant to heat, & chemicals.
The first time I flat-ironed my hair it took about 2 hours, and came out beautifully. It lasted about 3 days and then I had to wash it.
Since it takes me so long to flat iron my hair the handle which has little grooves in it left some of my fingers sore and calloused from gripping the handle for so long (2hrs).
After that, I wasn't sure if I would keep the iron because my fingers and hand felt so sore.
Now, when I use the iron I have to where a glove to protect my hand which helps but makes it harder for me to flat iron my hair as well.
Honestly, my iron is still in perfect condition, gets really hot, and works well but if I could do it over again I wouldn't own this flat iron.
My suggestion: if you have naturally curly hair that is thick, and takes a long time to flat iron....get something else.

I bought this iron from folica.com and I received a free pouch with it.
I like the iron and it does a great job. Add hot sauce by FHI and use the iron your hair is straight and shiny until you wash your hair. People comment when I straighten my hair that it is shiny and straight.
Great investment and much cheaper to purchase from folica.com than anywhere else.
Good, but....

I've been using my FHI for a little over a year. It worked really great straightening my thick wavy hair. However, shortly after the warranty period expired, the plates started melting the surrounding plastic. Now I have to buy another flat iron - it won't be the FHI. Maybe the Sedu will last longer.

I have ordered this flat iron before and I loved it then but when it went missing I just went to the beauty supply and bought another brand. This was a very bad idea. After using a FHI flat iron for more than a year the difference was extremely noticable. This flat iron has an adjustable heat setting so you can be sure to get the straightening effect that you want. It's the best on the market for maintaining a smooth straight style.

I bought this flat iron after having tried both the sedu and the solia (which are good as well). I really like this flat iron. It's lightweight, yet durable. It was easy to use and manuever around the hair to create twists. It didn't leave me tired, annoyed, and in pain holding the iron like the solia did. As for the results, it is not as sleek as the SEDU, but it definately a time saver it took me all of 10-15 minutes to do my whole hair, and it looked smooth and straight and stayed that way all week. What I like about it is that it is lightweight, get's really hot (450 degrees), takes a short amount of time to flat iron my hair, and the results are smooth, frizz free straight hair, what's their not to love.
i love it!! CHI WHO??? ;-)

i am a african american woman with very natural thick coarse hair...its like a brillo pad..lol. anywho, i purchased the fhi after using my soroity sister's fhi. This iron works wonders it presses my hair silky stR8, with out burning it. My press can last about a week....which is a very long time for women with natural hair. This is sooo much better than any other flat iron i have EVER used..including the CHI!!! i do want to add, i use protective products....like the design essentials' silkner or kera cares's silk n seal, as well conditioning my hair when i wash it. this helps alot...Use good products. if you buy cheap and you get cheap results.
Wonderful!!

This flat iron straightens my coarse hair very well. I use this once a week after I wash my hair, and it stays straight until I wash it again. I reccommend this for those with very coarse or relaxed (African American) hair. Just don't forget to deep condition and use a thermal spray for heat protection!!!
Not pleased.

I have had this model iron since 2003 and wanted to replace it but was shocked when I found a $160 price tag at my local store. When I found it here for half that I thought it was too good to be true and I believe that it was. The red plates are supposed to darken when they are heated and this one they stay bright red. At the highest setting it was nowhere near as hot as my old one and I am left to think that this is not the same. I'm not sure why they would be different...but I am also not sure why Folica.com is able to sell it for 1/2 price. Just beware. I'm sure the iron works fine for most people, but it is NOT what I was expecting and I don't think I will be purchasing from this site again.
This FHI Flat Iron is fabulous...

It straightens, it curls, it shapes in every way without drying my hair. I have a short cut with blended highlights and the variable heat settings make all the difference. It heats up quickly. This is a must-have! I highly recommend it.

Love it, Love it, Love it! I'm an African-American female and I can't tell you how many compliments I've received. Even my hairdresser asked if I've been seeing another stylist! It was hard to get a technique down at first, but i got better with time. Don't give up if your hair doesn't come out perfect the first few trys!

i bought this for my mother who has hair on the shorter side. after she blow dries it she just smoothes it over with this iron and it comes out nice. i tried the iron my self and it heats up quick, and the plates glide nice and smooth over the hair. it leaves the hair nice and smooth and straight. i have no complaints about this flat iron.
