Don't buy if you have tight curly frizzy hair

So I bought this flat iron because of the amazing reviews. I have tight curly hair (3c/4a) African American hair that is fine, but I have a lot of it. The first week I used the FHI flat iron, I was not impressed. But, I decided to give it another try because I didn't use great products and got lazy after blow drying my hair and took big chunks. So, next week I used anti-frizz products and Chi silk infusion and I parted my hair in tiny sections and flat iron. It took me two hours to flat iron my hair and I had it on 370. I had to pass each section through the flat iron at least three times. After all that work my hair turned out great. But here is the catch, as soon as I turned on my heat for 10 minutes my hair poofed as if I didn't even flat iron my hair. I went ice skating the same night, I worked up a little sweat and but the rink was cold and my hair was completely gone. The next morning I woke and my hair was extremely poofy and frizzy. I tried to use the flat iron again to go over my hair and even though it was hot my hair was frizzy. You would think because this flat iron get really hot that the straightening job would last. But, it didn't I am going to trade it in and get the CHI. My Revlon can do a better job than this flat iron. Don't waste your money unless you have a perm, which I don't or really straight hair. The pictures show what type of hair texture I have, the second picture is after I straightened it and before it became poofy.

I love these flat irons. I am an african american with natural tight curly hair. I normally straigten my hair with marcel flat irons but the stress of the varying temperature, arms becoming exhausted, and going back and forth from the stove kept my hair straightening to the bare minimum. This flat iron is great b/c it doesn't burn the hair and can be used for any hair style I choose to do! It only take one to two passes over each section and I'm done. No need to keep running over each piece to get it silky straight. My roommate borrowed this flat iron from me and bought herself one the same day!!! The only bad part about this flat iron is the same gripe I have with all ceramic flat iron... that Ceramic smell that lingers in your hair. But, other than that, my hair look great!!
Really Great <3

FHI IS THE BEST

All my friends have owned all kinds of flat irons, while I got a FHI. My FHI has out lasted all of their CHI's and done great things for my hair. I dye my hair a lot so I constantly need tools that wont do to much damage and the FHI has not. And I have the same FHI for 5 years now, most flat irons can't even make it past 1 year for someone.
I LOVE MY FHI

Trust me you should invest in a FHI iron it was the best thing I ever did. I also have a CHI however I can't change the temp on it and after I heard all the wonderful things about the FHI iron I bought one and I must say LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! Just make sure you get the one where you can change the temp very important!!!
Great...

So far so good. I bought this flat iron a couple weeks ago (from another site) and tried it out a few times and so far I'm loving it. It heats up in seconds, retains the selected temp setting and straightens really well from roots to ends.
AWESOME for Coarse Curly Hair

I tried 3 others before settling on this one - my hair is very thick, coarse and curly. The others pulled my hair and made it puffy and dry looking (and feeling!).
This is the iron my stylist uses, and I bought it based on her recommendation. After the 1st try I got my hair to look and feel (nearly) as good as my stylist did! Fantastic product.
Better than a CHI

i have owned my fhi for two or three years after an order for a chi was out of stock, the company sent me a fhi in its place, and must say it is the better of the two. my sister uses a chi which leaves hair dry and mine is still silky...i love the adjustable temp too!!! will recomend this flat iron to anyone!
The Best Flat Iron

I have natural hair and was disappointed with the flat iron I had. It is a little difficult to find a flat iron that will straighten African American natural hair. I went on line and came across a Youtube video that said the FHI flat iron was the BEST!!!. It was compared to the CHI and FHI got the best results. I researched a couple of irons before finally making my decision to get the FHI. The FHI official website was great at explaining the difference between the FHI and other irons. Needless to say, I am sooooo happy. My hair has never looked better.

I love this flat iron. I had a Technique FHI, but my cat chewed through the wire!! I had tried other brands after that, like the Babyliss, which is pretty good. But this FHI that I just purchased, the one above, is the best I've ever used. My hair is very coarse with natural wavy and curl. I'm absolutely obsessed about my hair being totally flat and shinny. I'm 61 years old and I like to look as good as I can, and with this FHI flat iron, it is totally possible. I teach, and the students are always complimenting me on my hair. Love it!

well i usually don't write reviews but after searching for a new flat iron, i thought the FHI would be a great choice. I have owned the CHI for awhile and it did fine but made my hair dry. I got the FHI thinking that it would make my hair silky straight, but it just made it poufy!! So, needless to say i will be returning it!!
One of the Best I Have Used

I have purchased several ceramic flatirons for my non-relaxed African-American hair. At first I was wary of the cost but have to say that it is one of the best I have used. The overall effect, smoothness, moisture content, retention of my haircolor are preserved by this iron. I recommend it highly. My purchase from Folica was pleasant: customer service was always helpful and the product arrived on time. I was not impressed with the free heat mat (cheap felt)that came with the FHI; there are much better ones available. I do not trust this mat to guard my expensive purchase. Be sure to use this iron with heat protection. For people who complain that this iron is not good for curly hair, their technique and products are not up to par. Better technique and lower temperature do the trick.
THE CHI IS NO COMPARISON!!

I am African American woman with a head full of thick long hair. I used the chi for years and I hated that I would have to go through my hair so many times in order to straighten it to my desired look. Using the chi it took me 3 to 4 hours to straighten my hair. The FHI IS AWESOME..it completely straightens and silkens(word?) in just one passing. My hair is also very shiny and not dry looking how the chi left it looking. Not only is my hair straightening time down to one single hour but I absolutely LOVE IT. I believe that the chi does better with Caucasian women and Fhi(because it has the ability to get hotter) is better for African American women..hope all this info helps.
Love it!

FHI vs SEDU

I went back in forth between purchasing the sedu or the FHI. I believe in giving products serious consideration and evaluation before purchasing because I hate to waste money. After careful consideration i decided to purchase the FHI and I am glad that I did. It straightens my hair as If i went to a beauty salon and got it done. Finally a straight iron that I am actually satisfied with. Though every woman's hair is different so is every flat iron. You know your hair and only want the best for it. My advice look at girls who take care of their hair on a daily basis..I know that a woman who takes care of her hair uses good products. Find out what works for you!

I have 4a/4b fine, relaxed hair. My hair cannot withstand a lot of heat because my strands are thinner than normal. I had a Chi and it burned my hair. I would use it and within the next few days, i would have lots of breakage and split ends so i only used it about 4 times in 2 years. I did a lot of research and for the price, i decided the FHi would be the best. I set my temperature to 375 and i pass it through each small section once. I dont get breakage or dryness with the right products and i can make nice little curls with it!!! My hair also bounces with little to no effort :O <3
