Some of the woman I know screamed out in pain after only seconds of trying this. I don't find it unbearable. Some areas hurt more then others but are tolerable. My teenage daughters had to be held down at first but now use it on their own. I do find I use it on my legs more often then I would have to wax, probably because I think some of the hairs are breaking off and not coming out from the root. Those hairs that come back right away are still very soft and fewer then if I shaved. I love the results from the emjoi particularly in my armpits. Feels like there was never hair there in the first place and lasts for more then 2 weeks so far. It hurt for a few hours after (those hairs are tough) but I don't get that burning when I put on antiperspirant like I would if I had just shaved. It would be worth the cost alone for how happy I am with keeping the hair on my arms away, I just love how soft they feel.

Heck yeah it hurts, it pulls your hair from the root! What did you expect, right?? It works great, and it'a great value.

We all know our options when it comes to hair removal. Waxing can be expensive, shaving can be time consuming, and other alternatives simply do not work (unless you are willing to spend a lot of money). So, for the price I thought I would give this device a try. Let's not fool ourselves. No matter what people say, pulling hair out from the root is more than just discomfort, it's painful. I was surprised that the most pain I felt while using this product was on my legs as opposed to delicate areas of the body. Using it on the underarms was somewhat painful, and the bikini line did not hurt at all. I elected to try the device on the rest of my arms and it was moderately painful. The results were interesting. After several times of use within a few days, my legs were never as smooth as when I shave, but it did remove most hairs. However, my arms, underarms, and bikini line remained smooth and completely hairless for a couple of weeks after use. Not quite the "up to" 6 wks that the product claims, but I was still pleased. I am sure different hair types would have different results. In conclusion, I would recommend this product simply for the results for the arms and bikini line alone. If you can tolerate some pain for beauty, this product just may be for you.

This is great product! I use it my, arms and legs. I have course dark leg hair and I won't lie it does sting/hurt there. First time using it on legs was worst, seems to be easier now. I used to shave legs every other day, now I use epilator once a week to get tiny hairs that are much finer than when i shaved. If you've ever been waxed then you'll have no problem with this method of hair removal. If your not sure about buying this product because of other negative reviews, just do it and see for yourself. Everyones skin and hair is different. If you don't like it just return it, I'm sooo glad I tried it!

I have not found that it is effective on my legs. I can feel the pain but I don't see results! I think that if I let the hair grow out more it would work better, but I just can't stand to wait that long. It worked well under my arms but the pain was so bad that I had to do it in several sessions. I wanted this primarily for my legs, so it has not been very helpful.
Best choice even better than shaving

I know it hurts. But how much it hurts depends on the thickness of your hair. I didn't shave many times before trying this so my hair wasn't very thick. Like shaving epilation doesn't make your hair and skin hard. The first time it hurt a little. Then after two weeks I could see small hair growing so I used it again and it didn't hurt. Last winter I didn't remove my hair for around 6 months and when I used the epilator again in spring it did hurt a little but the next time again it didn't hurt at all. I have used another brand epilator once and that hurt a lot. But this epilator is great. Now that I have been using it for a few years my hair doesn't grow back for 3-4 weeks and even then they are small and lot less painful or time taking to remove it. All my friends who have been shaving get very jealous because they have to shave everyday to keep it smoothe and sometimes if they can't get around to it for couple of days the hair grows and sometimes their boy friends feel it. I don't have to worry about my hair growing back and embarrassing me before I find time to remove it again. I would this is the best choice for anyone who still can epilate.
Love it! Worth every penny.

I read almost every review prior to ordering and was not a believer when I ordered. NOW I AM!! It IS painful; somewhere between natural childbirth and root canal without anesthesia but if you do take that hot shower, exfoliate well and trim the hair if very long, it works great. I have dark, very thick hair and it did not break when trimmed shorter. Pain lessens each time it is used and the hairs are now lighter in color and finer after using about 2 months. I used weekly at first but now just as needed. I told everyone I knew about it and they thought I was a little crazy until I showed them the proof. I tend to have ingrown hairs with waxing but not with this method. Had to get the technique down and that lessens the pain and time involved as well. Read instructions prior to using!!

I'm cursed with dark, thick Italian hair. Using this works better than most other options I've tried, but it's far from perfect. I find that a lot of hairs break and aren't pulled out (tough little suckers!) So hair removal only lasts a short time before they grow out again. If my hair wasn't so tough I think this would work really well, since it performs perfectly on the thinner hairs. But I still use it regularly because it's a better option than shaving. I've used it on my arms, and legs...can't handle the pain to go anywhere else.

I've never used one of these before and was pleasantly surprised. It rips hair out like a chainsaw. It does hurt, especially the first time you use it but it seems to lessen with subsequent use. You can see the root on many of the hairs that are pulled out which obviously helps extend the amount of time that it takes for regrowth. It also takes some time to learn how to apply the correct pressure but once you get used to it is worth it.

I just received my Emjoi Gold Epilator and I love it! Being used to a lot of pain with my old epilator, I grabbed the towel I usually bite down on when I epilate. To my surprise I no longer need it. This Emjoi Epilator is
wonderful. Not only is the pain a great deal less, but it does an excellent job of removing the hair. I used it both under my arms and on my legs with great results. It removed even the tiny hairs. It did take a pass or two, but so did my other epilator. I'm an older lady and my underarms are no longer where they used to be. Needless to say, I sag. And this was a concern I had when I ordered this epilator. I had read where others said the curve of this epilator caused problems for them. But I did not find this to be so for me. It fit nicely and I was able to epilate without much of the stretching of the skin that I had to do with my other epilator. I'm extremely pleased with it.

I have been having my legs waxed for about 5 years and I decided to look at cheaper alternatives. I did a lot of research on which one of these would be a good choice and the Emjoi Gold Caress kept coming up on top of the list. I was nervous about the whole idea but decided with the guarantee is was worth taking a chance. I am completely delighted. I don't think that it is as painful as waxing. I take a hot shower or a hot bath just prior to using it and it works great. It removes the hair as well or better than waxing. I am very satisfied with the results and I wish I had done it about 4 years ago.

I received my Emjoi a few days ago and used it right away. It was a little painful, especially in the underarm area, but no more than I expected. I've tried waxing before, and this was no more painful. It did take about two hours to do my legs, underarms, and bikini line, but I hope subsequent uses will take less time. My legs are not as smooth as shaving, because all the hairs had not grown out yet, but hopefully with continued use, my legs will get smoother. The results on my underarms and bikini line were great: very smooth. It's nice not to have to shave every day. I prefer using the Emjoi over waxing: better results, not messy, and easier to use. This is a great product, if you can tolerate a little bit of pain for great results.

Contrary to other reviews, I found this really painful. Far too painful to use on my legs. I think I have a fairly high pain tolerance (a few tattoos and regular waxing is no problem to me) but this was really painful. I can tolerate it on the little hairs on my face but it doesn't get really fine hairs, so this product is really of no use to me. Guess I need to stick with waxing.

Really grabs all those fine short hairs on face and anywhere you choose! Easy to clean. Beats waxing! Hair takes awhile to grow back. Really glad I purchased this!!

Hurts as ** but works great!!!!! Used it all over my body, pulls out very thin light hair as well as hard darker ones.
Its worth to go through the pain, which is not worse than waxing. Just did my bikini which I could never wax unless I had it done.
I am very happy with this product and my smooth body ;)

The first time was very painful as there was a lot of hair at one time. Also, it took over an hour, nearly two. Now, a few months later, I am using the product once a week and it takes about 15-20 minutes for maintenance. Down side: your legs never feel completely smooth. Upside: it keeps getting lighter and less dense. Hope it continues!

I have been a Epi-Lady user for years, so when I saw an add for the Emjoi Gently Gold Caress Hair Removal System, I thought I would give it a try. totally awesome, so much faster than the Epi-lady and a lot less pain.

PRODUCT WORKS BUT DOESN'T REMOVE ALL THE HAIR. NOT ONLY IS IT PAINFUL BUT DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT SHAPE TO GET HARD TO REACH AREAS. I WOULDN'T RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE, SAVE YOUR MONEY!
