I have (or had) beautiful, naturally curly hair. But, I went to an event and someone convinced me to let them straighten my hair. I ended up buying this product. The next morning, I washed my hair as usual. I have very even, curly hair. But, all my curl didn't return. Parts of my hair were curly, but the curl never returned to other parts. I even had an excellent stylist who has been working on my hair for some time (doing curly cuts) try to get the curl back into my hair. She said she had never seen anything like it. We ended up cutting the straight pieces. I never used the product and tried to return it, but she said all sales were final. If you love your hair...don't use this product. It will damage your hair.
Decent while it lasted.

I have had a cortex for a year and a half. I just ordered a CHI Dazzle pink, because I dropped the straightener and a huge chunk of one of the ceramic plates fell off! Now it tugs at your hair even more than before. I hate it now, but it was alright when I had it. Wouldn't recommend it though.

I bought this and it works fine if you use sparingly. It damages your hair a lot. my $20 straightner i had when i was 16, didn't do this much damage. You have to use ALOT of heat protection sprays just so your hair won't completely fry. Buy something like a sedu or chi if you want better results.
It's wonderful!

So my cortex just got delivered to my mail box yesterday! I ordered it from foilca.com
I heard about it through a friend who's older sister bought it from the mall kiosk for 200$ I paid 60$ + 15$ S&H What a steal from folica! The plates glide so smoothly over your hair and keep it straight all day long! But like other straightners, it wont last in misty weather. I love it already and it's just a dream to use. I've only had it for 2 days though. So I should write a review in a few months too.

I never wanted to do my own hair because it took me over 2 hours to do all my hair with the only one I had purchased. I used to pay $25 twice a week to get my hair washed and staightened. I only paidn $70 and it's work the money. It takes me 30 minutes to get my waist lenghth hair straightned. IT IS WONDERFUL

After reading the other reviews, many people reviewed the kiosk service rather then reviewing the product.
I too tried this in at the kiosk over a year ago, and was amazed by the fast and soft results. I love the different temp settings and it does heat up fast. In comment to the other reviews, I was warned that if you drop the product then it won't heat up fast any more. Mine still heats up in a matter of seconds and stays hot.
I highly recommend this flat iron but make sure you get it on here, I originally paid 90 after being told about a student discount.

I made the stupid mistake of purchasing this iron at a mall vendor who did not tell us there was a no return policy. He told us it had a lifetime warrenty but when you get the receipt it says no returns or refunds. We paid $160.00 for it and it is NOT worth it! I have had a chi and a t-3 and I love both of them. I should have stayed with those brands because this one was a huge let down and rip off! I saw on folica.com that they are only $60.00. Big difference in price. DO NOT buy one at the mall!
What a deal from Folica

Wow! I bought this iron 3.5 years ago and it finally broke. I was really happy to look online and see it for only $60 bucks! This is the best iron I have ever had and I have had them all! YAY!
Mall versus Kiosk

You guys don’t see what's behind those guys and gals running around you at the mall trying to sell stuff. If not for them you wouldn't even know this product existed. They I am sure paid a big buck to rent that kiosk to promote the product, therefore they need to sell it at the certain price to be able to make any money. No business can exist without making money otherwise it is called non-profit organization..
I bought this iron close to a year ago at the mall and I loved it. The demonstration on my hair left me speechless. Yes, I paid a big buck for it (around $140.00 with a bag) but if not for those guys I wouldn’t even know this product existed. I don’t have time to spend hours on-line looking for a flat iron as there are millions of them and there is no time to read all these reviews and specifications on each one of them.
To tell you about this product: it is better than any other common brand I have ever used that never worked and I would throw them away after a while in disgust. This one gets really hot but if you don’t like the high temperature, just turn it down. It also has the safety feature so that it turns itself down when it gets to a highest temperature and turns back on when it starts to cool down. Not that I encourage you to do that but I managed to leave the house for the entire day twice with the iron left on! but thank goodness for this feature: nothing happened!
Unfortunately I used it with the gel that was not intended for the iron and I ruined it. And the kiosk at the mall is no longer there – I guess it was too pricey to do business at the mall, so I am going to purchase it on line.
Now I feel stupid

OK, I am really P.O.'d I love this straightener. I will tell you my hair is kinky curly and with my Conair straightener it took 2 hours to do and then with any humidity it either frizzes or starts to waive and then curls up. 2 hours down the drain, with the chi it would take my stylist 30-40 min, it was straight however when I would sleep on it, by morning it was curly or frizzy so put a little product on it to tame it and curly again. With this, it takes me 10-15 max min and it is good all day I can sleep on it and then brush through it and it is great. However after the first time using it when I washed my hair it was more curly than ever, I guess my hair had curl withdrawl. So why am I P.O.'d I paid 110.00 for it, thinking that is ab out the same price for a chi and on here it is $60.00, what the hadies!! oh and by the way, with the warranty, I know people that have had trouble with the CHI warranty too, I just am going to be careful, I wipe it down when done, and put it back in the box. I just hope I don't have the physical issues.

I tried this in the mall. It was pretty good until she told me it as $220. Then, she said she would have a christmas discount of $129. Then, since I'm a student, a student discount was offered at $89. I said no. Plus afterward my hair smelled burnt. DON'T BUY!!!

My sister almost bought it at a mall stand for $120 they told her it was worth $240 but the lady told her to say that she works at the mall so she would get a 50% discount, but my sister was in a hurry so she didn't buy it she tought about going back and get it but she check the iron online and she was surprise to see that its only worth $60 so she bought it for the $60 instead of $120. I tried it and I really like it so am also getting it it makes my hair so soft I already donated my old iron. Buy it you wont regret it.

Ok in the mall where i live i hate it, the employees of the shops arent very good, the kiosks are sooooooooo annoying and overall the only good thing is Starbucks. So one day i was with one of my friend and a lady at the Cortex stand came up and started straightening my hair and i thought it was good but it said $220 and i thought that was a little ridiculous! So i got the thing for $90 after arguing with the guy for 15 minutes and now its $60!!!!! I dont often straighten my hair because its not healthy so i will only do it to my bangs if necessary and thats it, but if anyone is going to buy this then buy it here. You save money from the people in the mall. JUST WALK AWAY FROM THE KIOSKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i bought this iron from the stand at the mall and paid $149 for it, not relizing i could buy it here for less than half that price. i was also told i could return it if i had any complaints so i went to return it and was told it could not be returned but if there was a problem they could return it i told them it was not doing what they claimed and they plugged it in and said there was no major problem so they could not exchange it either. i am not happy ith what it does it gets so hot that it is damaging my hair and causing it to brake off. this is not a product worth the price i paid dont get scammed by the people at the stand at the mall.

So, my Conair flat iron fizzled out and I wanted a Chi, but I decided to shop around. Came across this Cortex kiosk in the Governor's Square Mall in Tallahassee and this woman demonstrates it and it looks good, but she tells me it retails for $220 but they are running a special promotion for $119 right now.
My hair looked good and it seemed to work, but these girls came up while I was getting it done and told the employee that they heard from a friend that they were only $60. The woman was incredibly rude to them and told them that was ridiculous and that their friend was wrong.
I was still considering buying it (she had straightened all my hair at this point) but saw the "No Refunds, Exchanges only" sign and told them that I wanted to research it online and if I found positive reviews that I would come back and buy it from them.
So...it's only $60 and I couldn't find it for more than $75 anywhere online, they have no website and I've read poor reviews on several other websites. This particular kiosk and this company in general seem VERY shady. Even if their product is good, the way they do business seems to be sketchy or a scam. I ended up buying a Chi after all and it works wonderfully. Just a head's up!

The same exact thing happened to me today, I bought it for $108 at the mall today and I am just now realizing that I could have purchased it for half the price here online. Another thing, you are right, there is no warranty on it because there is no mailing address on the brochure they give you at the mall, they lied and it is a rip off if you purchase this item at the mall or from any con artist. The product works well, but I am also waiting for the day it stops working on me.
.. wish I'd gone to Folica.com & read reviews first

Very disappointed at being "duped" by the sales guy. In the mall, the sign at the stall reads "Lifetime Warranty", but that's a blatant lie as in the box the warranty is only for one year, with no contact details of where to send it off to. So, basically, it has no warranty. Plus, the guy says "bring it back if you have any problems, we'll exchange it", when the receipt they hand you AFTER you've paid says "no exchanges/no refunds". Despite this, the irons actually work quite well, but I am just waiting for them to stop working as it seems inevitable! Also, I paid $149 for the 1" irons that I could have bought here at Folica for half the cost, with some peace of mind as I could have returned them if there was a problem. Finally, I see one of the ceramics has a part missing, so they are sold damaged too. BE CAREFUL - and never buy from these con-artists! Something should be done about them!
