i guess i wasn't expecting much of a result anyway, seeing as i bought it at a low price.
the problem with it is, it's a low price for a reason.
it leaves my hair sort of frizzy. definitely not the sleek result i wanted. & the high heat doesn't exactly prevent damage either. but i have to admit, it does straighten my hair really fast.
basic summary: if you've only got a couple twenties on you, it'll probably do. but honestly, i'd rather shell out. PS. CHI'S ARE AWESOME :)

I used this iron once on my hair and it started smelling burnt and ruined it. If you want a great iron try one of the CHIs. It's more expensive, but it's totally worth the money.

A decent straightener for the price

I bought this straightener because my guy friend had this one and I used it a few times. He takes pretty mediocre care of his stuff but it has lasted him over a year. I like that it is ceramic and tourmaline, but I guess it is just coated and not 100%. I don't have the box so I'm not totally sure on that. It has 4 heat settings from 311 to 392 F. The buttons don't stick out so I have never had a problem bumping them but I am left-handed. The outside does not get too hot. (away from the plates, I mean. So it's a good thing because you don't burn yourself!) The cord swivels which is nice and it comes with a heat-safe travel bag in the box. It doesn't snag my hair. I don't think I have hard to straighten hair. I have light brown hair of average thickness and straighten it to get the flips out of the ends and add shine/ reduce frizz. I have had it from March to July. I live in IL and it gets humid here in the summer which I've noticed undoes my hair by the evening. For the money I would have given this a four but mine shorted out or something last week and I have taken good care of it. It lights up and seems to try to work, but the plates never get warm. So I have been researching what to get next and was between the Sedu and Solia. I decided on the Solia because it seems comparable to (in some ways better than) the Sedu Revolution, which is new and still needs work. Lots of people report them breaking. So I will go for the Solia which comes in a lot more sizes and has the swivel cord, and has been out longer which means they've had more time to perfect it. Also, it seems worth mentioning I read somewhere about the Chi's that they have only 20- 25 watts which is much lower than any straightener. Typically they have about 60. If this is true, (and I am pretty sure it is) then shame on Farouk. Okay. Good luck.

I don't know why other people are having problems with this product. I got mine for Christmas, and it works great. It doesn't damage my hair at all, but that's probably because I do the correct thing and use TRESemme Straightening Gel and Heat Tamer ;), I even use the 395 degree setting. My hair is very thick and frizzy/wavy, and granted I may have to go over the same piece 2-3 times, it works great. It works better than any Chi I have ever used; Chi's just ended up frying my hair due to the fact they have no temperature control. This iron leaves my hair shiny and very soft. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on an iron, definitely buy this. However, if you are able to get a Sedu or another professional type that isn't a Chi, get that.

since this iron is only ceramic tourmaline coated plates it doesnt deliver the full result of a cermaic tourmaline iron. it heats up very fast though. i have to go over my wavy fine/thick hair a few times though even when i section it. i have noticed split ends since i have been using it but not alot alot just like some-ish.
its a dissappoint ment bcuz it doesnt straighten my rly wavy parts of my hair. but it would do a good job with ppl that have frizzy semi-straihgt hair. its ok but i want a solia or sumthin. its kinda snags tho

I started using this 2 inch flat iron 8-9 weeks ago and I've had wonderful results. I've got relaxed African American hair and it's been super shiny, no dry ends and no split ends. Plus, I didn't even use a heat protector on my hair, only Infusium leave-in. I'm VERY pleased, and can't stop touching my hair. I only flat iron my hair once a week. I looked around at pricier models and found this one to be good, so there was no need to spend more $. It did snag a little. I may purchase the 1 inch next.
not the best.

Its good for the money honestly. its got ceramic heaters which all of the high end irons have. it wont burn your hair (unless you put it on a setting thats too hot for your hair...duh) I'm mixed with s-curls and it made my hair pin straight...i didnt try it in the humidity but the only reason i'm returning mine is because, unlike my old solia, the plates snag somewhat...and when u turn it on for the first time its got this horrible burning smell. but i mean like i said...it does the job. if you've got coarse, hard to damage hair then i would get it dont waste your money on more expensive brands but if you have fine, curly hair like mine i would not recommend it. I'm going to try the sedu!
damages hair!

i recieved the 2" one for a birthday present and within 3 months it broke, so i bought this one and it damaged my hair completely. i have naturallly very curly hair and this made me have so many split ends, plus it took me hours to straightener my hair and when i would go outside it would get all poofy and turn curly.when i would straighten my hair i could literally hear my hair cracking and getting split. i had it for about 4 months and it burnt out again. deffenitly do not think this is a good product, if you have curly hair i recomend the 1 1/2" CHI turbo it works great=)
I love this product

I have had a few straightening irons all more expensive than this one but in my experience I have never been satisfied like I am now....I have fine very curly hair and I flat iron my hair and it stays flat for the whole week....people could never tell I have curly hair...my hair does not get damage and I only have to pass it once...but my secret is I dont try to flat iron my hair when is wet and curly and I use heat protector a very good expensive one but u can find a few cheaper ones on the market. and how could under 2 pounds be heavy????the flat iron weights less than my water bottle...its so slim and weightless.

I've had this iron for a while now and trust me it's not the best, i've had better. It leaves your hair really damaged after a while even when you use protectors. DON'T BUY IT!
Not bad, but not great.

Recently bought this flat iron because I'm a student on a budget. I have very thick hair, and like most people here said--it's on the heavy side and you have to got through your hair a few times. However, once I take the hour and half to flat iron my hair, I don't have to flat iron it for pretty much the rest of the week, which I can't say for other flat irons I've owned in the past--even ones more expensive. I'm a marathon runner, and even after a couple hours of sweating a day--my hair still remains to be straight. I don't mind taking the extra couple hours on Sunday to flat iron if it means I'm fine for the rest of the week. Rome wasn't built in a day.
its alright i guess..

its alright i guess i bought it yesterday and i tried it on my hair it straightened one said fine but on the other side its like it slowed down.. it took me like 10min on one side and on the other its more like 20. and the other sides curlier. i would suggest getting a differnt one unless all you can find are the drug store cheap ones.
my hair is pretty thick and has these pretty big waves.

I bought this iron at wal mart after i fried my hair with a vidal sassoon. it really isn't worth it. it snags your hair as it passes through and the results don't last. For curling, it's a mediocre product. it works on my hair. if your only choices are drugstore irons, get this one. if you can get your hands on a professional one, just get it.
i heard the chi is not as good as sedu or solia and ghd, but it works better than any conair.
not bad...

I had this straightener for about a year.
It worked okay, but it I have layers and by the end of the day my layers were all poofy and wavy again. And then one day, I came back and the it wouldn't even heat up. I ended up having to buy a new straightener. The Conair Infiniti Silver Nano 1 1/2" Hair Straightener works great! I recommend you buy that! (:
