I have bought 3 units the lst was the pro it worked for about 2 years went out then I got the travel unit, it went out in a few months, then they sent another one to replace I tried this am to use it and it doesn't work! I like the steam idea and now have a whole load of the rollers and no unit, I am going to send it back and get the pro unit and hope it works because I like the steam concept.....I just wish they would fix the probem!
I have an ANCIENT Caruso...

...one of the old, square, purple ones that requires salt, and that thing is still going strong. I am having to replace the foam on the rollers, but a few folks in the Tips column suggested using cheap foam rollers, and I'm going to try it. I truly love this little gadget! I had straight hair when I was younger, and it held a Caruso curl better than any curling iron. Once middle age struck, my hair got wavy, and now, I'm having all new fun with my Caruso. I don't know how well the newer Caruso's work, but my oldy-but-goody is just that. Based on its history, I'd recommend a Caruso to EVERYONE.
It's the absolute best!

I have been using this system for many years. I have long thick hair. I set my hair two or three times a week. The set is on the tight side right after setting but it gradually relaxes and I can easily go two or three days on one set. I do use a little hair spray, after brushing it out I flop my head over and spray my hair on the underside and then flop it back over right side up arrange it and spray lightly on the top side. There is a learning curve on using this set as you have to be quick and get it in your hair while the curler is still hot. I can set my entire head in less then 5 minutes which is way faster then trying to use a curling iron on my think mop and it works so much better. I actually take my setter with me to the hair salon after getting it cut and colored because these curlers do a much better job then the hair salon can do with there curling products. I've had the same hair stylist for 30 years and she gets a kick out of showing people how fast I can set my hair and how lovely it turns out. Thanks for a wonderful product. I believe that the people on here that don't like it must have not used it enough to get fast with getting them in your hair. I can't recommend them enough. I'm ordering a new set today!
Love it

I started using this in the early 90's when I was a majorette. I am in AL and our fall is hot and humid. We all know that hairspray and humidity do not mix. I like the Caruso because I only have to use a minimal amount of product, so my hair is soft, not sticky. The curl stays alot longer than with curling irons or hot rollers. My hair is straight and fine, and it does not want to hold curl. I do think the original with the salt was the best too, but have good luck with my second unit.
Another Love/Hate Relationship

I, too, have used this product forever. The original that used salt in the water was fabulous and lasted for years. Like other reviews here, the more recent models (and I've been through about 4 or 5) do curl your hair to perfection but the units only last about 6 months. One unit even did a mini-explosion on my bathroom counter! The company did replace it at no charge. I keep buying them because they do the best job, hands down, but I have to give the actual unit a failing grade. I wish they would go back to the original model. I don't mind adding salt if it adds some longevity to the product.

This is a great product for all hair types, excellent on relaxed African American hair. When this product first hit the market it was fantastic and more expensive. The idea of using steam and not burning your fingers or scalp, amazing. However, I guess with the product being mass produced some of the quality went out the window, unfortunatly. If you only use a very little steam on relaxed fine to medium hair, and a bit of moisturizer sparsly on the tips of your fingers you can reset your hair every morning without damage. However, I bought the original hairsetter and it worked for almost 2 yrs. The second one I purchased lasted less than six months. I sent it back to the manufactor, Helen Curtis. This went on 2 more times. I went crazy mad not knowing where to turn. I finally just gave up purchasing the steam unit and now I use a standard humidifier works just as well and lasts forever. I use the Caruso replacement rollers couldnt live with out them.

I've used these things for almost 20 years. Anytime I curl my hair with these it is absolutely amazing results that look even better on day two. My family and friends are speechless and it's my easy secret. It might be different and look crazy, but it works! I have long fine straight hair.
JUNK!

I have purchased 2 of these curlers for a missionary friend in the Dominican Republic. She has used her original set for years and loves the results she gets with them. The 1st set NEVER WORK! The 2nd set LASTED LESS THAN 6 MONTHS! Now I am ordering a 3rd set. It has been a large investment for me since it costs a fortune to mail them to her and she has to pay $50.00 to pick them up on top of the postage I pay. So needless to say, it would be very expensive to return them. You expect things to work when purchased. Needless to say I find this brand to be major JUNK. She did not ask for a 3rd set ... but because of the work she does, it is my contribution to her. If these fail ... I will make a decision to purchase another brand. By the way, the Thrift Stores are loaded with these curlers ... so make your own conclusion.

Caruso SalonPro 30 Steam Hairsetter was awkward to use with very poor results on my fine long hair. For me, it was a total waste of money and I don't recommend this product at all.
Great curls, but unit didn't last six months!

I loved this product until it broke. The curls would last for two days, and the rollers were easy to put in without burning my fingers. But after using it only approximately thirty times, the unit abruptly stopped working! Had I mishandled it I would feel differently, but I babied this thing. My curling iron is ten years old, my blow dryer even older, and this product didn't stack up. At $40, it wasn't cheap enough to justify the amount of use I got. I'm disappointed because while it lasted, it was just great.

I have used these for almost as long as they have been around. My first one lasted a couple of years and I use it twice a week. The next 5 I have purchased have only lasted about 6 months to a year. What has changed? Disappointed I have to keep buying new. They are the only curler I have actually used and worked well with my hair, but will be trying to find another that lasts longer. Can't afford to keep buying new.

I have used the caruso hairsetter for aprox. 30 years. It saved me a ton of money over the years. My daughter and friends have also become dependent on this curler. I always thought it was the best kept secret. The original company must have been bought out because the the product isn't the same anymore. the current version is a very cheep one compared to the original. The early version used to last for years. The new ones stop working only after a short time. I am left with a few usless units. How sad!!

I AM ABOUT TO BUY MY FOURTH CARUSO HAIRSETTER IN TWENTY YEARS, SO IT DOES LAST AN AVERAGE OF FIVE YEARS, WHICH IS GREAT FOR THE PRICE. I LOVE YOUR PRODUCT AND RECOMMEND IT TO ANY ONE WHEN THEY ASK ME ABOUT MY CURLS, THEY ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW WHO DID MY HAIR.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
Caruso curlers too expensive

Fantastic hairsetter but why don't they just sell the foam part of the roller? I have a whole bag of rollers with no foam, it's too expensive to have to keep buying rollers. The foam has to be the cheapest part of roller so why not sell that!! If you need a lot like I do it's just as expensive as buying a whole new hairsetter. Wait!! Maybe that's the idea. It's a terrific system though, curls last forever!!
great product, except steamer won't last

I have been using this product for years and I love it my curls will still be in my hair the next day, a little less tight, but they will still be in my hair. I am done rolling my hair in 20 minutes,go have breakfast, brush my teeth, and my hair is ready.
My only problem with this product is the steamer does not last. The one with salt lasted about 7 years.
The ones without salt only last about 6 months,or less.
Waste of money

I have fine hair which typically takes well to curlers (its long and very easily styled) and this product is the absolute worst. It does act quickly and the curls fall out just as quickly - I dont recommend it at all!

I love these steam rollers I bought them back in 2002 and it still gives me amazing curls I don't use them as much as I use to but it definitely does the job sorry for those who didn't have any luck with it but not all hair is created equal but for me it was definitely worth the investment thanks Caruso!
I LOVE MY STEAM - SETTER FOR 12+YRS

I BOUGHT MY FIRST SET TWELVE YEARS AGO, LAST WEEK MY CURLERS (THE SPONGE PART OF THE ROLLER) FINALLY STARTED TO FALL OFF. I WAS SO UPSET. I WENT TO A LOCAL DEPARTMENT STORE AND BOUGHT A HOT ROLLER SET, AND I TOOK ALMOST TWENTY MINUTES TO HEAT UP, AND THEN MY HAIR WAS COMPLETLY FLAT BEFORE I WAS TO GO ON STAGE (I AM A MOTIVATIONAL PARENT ADVOCATE) NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS SO UPSET. I WENT TO FOUR DIFFERNT STORES TRYING TO LOCATE MY STEAM-SETTER. AFTER I HAD ALL BUT GIVEN UP, MY DAUGHTER SUGGESTED TO TRY THE NET, AND SURE ENOUGH I FOUND IT. I BOUGHT A WHOLE NEW SET,AND I RECIEVED IT TWO DAYS LATER, (JUST IN TIME FOR ANOTHER LECTURE) AND IT WORKED GREAT. THANK YOU RICHARD CARUSO AND FOLICA.COM!!!
Steamer better- curl less so

I've used this product for years and recently bought the newer version which does not require salt. I love that convenience but found the newer curlers don't absorb moisture as well as the old ones so the curl is less tight than in the past. I suspect someone got a major steam burn so they revised the design of the curlers so they don't hold as much steam. Regardless, I am still sold on the product. It is fast (2 mins per curl if you just want smoothness + body) and a lot better than frying your hair with other heated products.
