I also have purchased 3 Caruso steam setters and they all have gone out on me. The last one I purchased did not hardly last a year. I am trying to find another product. Anyone have any suggestions. Purchased a Conair off E Bay and when I got it, it did not steam at all. What else can I do?

Like some of the other reviews, I also loved this product. This product was all I used on my hair for years. I loved it so much, I always had a reserve unit in my closet "just in case". My last unit lasted years, so when it fizzled out on me yesterday, I retrieved my spare. Guess what, I plugged it in, it NEVER steamed up. I am livid, because I bought it so long ago, I cannot even return it. Now I feel that I am between a rock and a hard place, to buy or not to buy? As I peruse the other reviews, I think not Caruso. Too bad, you were good.

Delivery was so fast! I dont know how I managed without this product for the past few months. I used to own the older model that you had to add salt too....it finally stopped working after 5 years of never cleaning it. I expected to have to use salt for this one too , but no salt needed! It works better then my old model, my hair is softer and it is so great to once again, only spend 10 minutes total from plug in time to last curler in place to have full curl & body that last 3 days!
What happened to quality

I have been using the Caruso unit since the first ones that used salt. It was great and lasted for years. Much to my dismay, they discontinued that model. After searching for weeks,I finally found one of the newer models. It lasted a total of 2 months and quit producing steam. Trying to find another one has proved fruitless. No one carries this product anymore, so I went to the the booklet which came with the unit and sent for a replacement unit from Helen of Troy only to find out it is not available anymore. Why package a booklet for replacement parts if they are no longer available. Why change a good product that sells with one that has so many problems. I love the unit when it works and when you can find one, but I don't know that I will purchase one if the quality of the product or the availabilty of the product does not improve.
Great for guys too!

I've been using Caruso steam rollers for years -- on my 3rd set now -- and I've been doing my husband's hair on them for almost a year. He's got straight hair, all one length, just off his shoulders. It took some convincing to get him to let me roll his hair but he uses them daily now and last month I bought him his own set!
Since I can do his hair in 10 min. flat he doesn't have to worry about being seen in curlers. I do his hair almost every morning and he either wears it down or up in a high ponytail. I use the large rollers and it gives him a very nice wave and bounce. For special occasions I use the medium size for more curl.
He loves his steam rollers and wouldn't go back to his old hairdo for a million bucks!
Best curling system ever

I have tried every way to curl my hair that is out there. Nothing would hold the curl. The curl would be pretty much gone by the time I got to work. Totally gone by noon. I have used these before but the where I live now the hard water ruined them. I have that set for about 15 years. So I bought another set but I use distilled water this time since our wate is so bad. They are great for short hair or long. I can have a very curly or smooth look. Before I purchased my replacement set I briefly borrowed a curling iron and hot rollers. Besides it taking forever to curl my hair and then not holding the curl, it was damaging my hair. I have a lot of hair and it takes me 5-10 minutes to completely curl my hair and it does not damage it. They are easy and fast to use and holds all day without hair spray. I'll never use anything else.
Good for home and travel

I have never used a hairsetter like this one. It may be "cheaply" made (plastic breaks easily) but it works and is efficient. I took it to France and it was compact. Wish I had known I needed more of the larger rollers.
Keeps hair soft and gives a good curl as long as you are careful how you roll onto the roller.
Glad I bought it! And Folica shipped it quickly for my trip without my paying extra charges.

On Cleaning the Caruso Hairstter
Reviewer:

It works great! I was amazed at what it did for my fine, limp hair! I have the instruction booklet that tells how to clean the hairstter (for the lady in TX). To clean the steamer add 1 Tbsp. vinegar to the water and allow to steam for several minutes. The rollers are instantly sanitized each time they are steamed. Since the end cap comes off the roller, it states that you can clean them in a milkd detergent and luke-warm water. Rinse thoroughly, blot excess water w/towel and allow to completely dry before resuing. Hope this helps.

I started using the Caruso hair steamer many years ago. The unit lasted for years. Now I have purchased two in the last three years. I tried to find a new one in the drug stores but couldn't. They stopped carrying the product. Guess that should be a clue that the product isn't any good.
I won't waste my money so I'll try something else. If they make a better product maybe I'll go back. Until then I'm not going to throw my money away.
It does not last long

The Caruso product is a very good tool but it does not last very long. I am an black woman with a thick grade of hair and this is the only tool I can use to curl my hair. I buy a new caruso kit about every three to five months. I am not sure why it stops working. I am hoping this is something they would look it fix because it is truly a good product.
Not as Good as the Last Version

I've been a Caruso fan for years since back when they needed salt to operate. This latest version is so weak that you have to wait forever to get the rollers steamed up. Caruso's best feature has always been the ease and speed of the system. Unfortunately I can't recommend this new one. Very little steaming power!!

Best rollers on the planet

I purchased Caruso rollers many years ago when they first came out. They are the best. My hair is a straight as it comes, and these are the only rollers that will really give me a long lasting curl. I won't use anything else. They should do new infomercials for them for a whole new generation of people who don't know about them. Thanks for a great product.

I have been using this hairsetter for years and years. I received it as a gift. I'll NEVER use a curling iron again to set my hair. My hair is straight and fine, but with the curlers and the steam from the Caruso hairsetter, my hair stays curled all day -- looks so much fuller now. Just bought one as a gift for my sister. Now she and her daughter both use it. A wonderful product!

I loved my first hairsetter. It lasted so long. Why are the new ones made so cheap!! My first hairsetter lasted years. However in the last 3 years I have gone through three hairsetters!! One only lastede a few months! I want to but another one because I love the curls, but I feel frustrated.
Incredible and essential product

I've used the Caruso line of steam roller products for approximately 10 years now. Using steam to curl my hair rather than electric rollers or curling irons actually infuses my hair with moisture rather than searing it with heat. It takes me literally two minutes to roll up my hair (you don't have to be perfect -- just grab clumps of hair) and then I put on my makeup and then take our rollers and brush. If you want a tight look leave in rollers until they are cold -- a looser look just leave in for a few minutes. It is easy to take along with you on trips as well . . .
It sounds like I work for the company or have some sort of financial stake in it, but I'm just an a-type personality who doesn't like to wake up 2 hours before I have to leave for work, get haircuts every four weeks due to split ends, or spend a lot of time in general getting ready. I do have a lot of hair, however, so I can't attest to how it would work on thinner hair. I just know it saves my life . . . 10 minutes from start to finish including make-up!

I had a caruso for 5 years and it worked great. Now the past 3 units have quit working in 3-6 months. I love the curls but I don't know if I can get myself to keep buying a product that doesn't last. I feel stuck because I can't find a company that makes anything like it. When it does work, it works great. I too feel like the are using cheap foriegn parts. It's just not the same
What Has Happened To Quality Steamers???

Like many of you out here - i was thrilled when i bought my first unit when it appeared many years ago w/salt - it lasted over 10 years, I love the concept and what it does for my hair. However i have bought 6 since then -all of those were the "no-salt" versions. All did the same thing - lost their steam for absolutely no reason. So guess what? I had to buy another 3 weeks ago after another one 2 months ago and guess what - after 3 uses between myself and my daughter - it stopped steaming already. They are cheaply made from the beginning (found that out by reading another customers review)- so i guess they just want our money now without a quality product. Like most products, once owners of companies realize that there is a need and its being fulfilled, then they start cutting back on producing quality instead of quantity. Well, I'm buying more units than i should have too. I thought all along that i was doing something wrong, but i have been proven wrong with the last few units i bought within a year. All who have gone through this should launch a complaint to the Better Business Bureau because as you see - Richard Caruso does not have a website for his company - HOW CONVENIENT!!! I'm tired of paying for a quality product and all i get are duds. Mr. Caruso, whatever you did years ago to produce quality, you certainly need to go back to it. Because of the cheaply made steamer, your product deserves 2 stars.
