Product Rating: 1 Not useful at all...
Reviewer: Shanie from New York City, NY  Fri Nov 02 2007

I have a great kind of hair for styling, and yet couldn't have any rolls thru this setter. I thought I didn't keep them in the hair long enough, so kept them for an hour the second time, and guess what? Nothing at all! My hair was somehow humid from the steam!

Product Rating: 4 Best I've had, but..
Reviewer: Nic   Fri Oct 05 2007

I've had a good time playing around with this setting kit, as I haven't had one yet that would even put a curl in my hair. (I have tightly curled, frizzy hair naturally) So I haven't really gotten the rolling method down... they don't seem to stay tight against the head and fall to the side or down. It also frizzed my hair like none other!! But I will say one thing... It is the ONLY thing to give me LASTING volume. I will continue to practice and hopefully I won't have these problems in the future... I'm confident in this brand.

Product Rating: 5 I love these curlers even after 15 years
Reviewer: Nicle from Victoria, BC, Canada  Sat Sep 29 2007

I think these are the best curlers on the market (I have been using them for 15 years), but there are a couple of tricks that make them even better, the most important are:
1) buy different clips to secure the curlers (there are several makes available - mine are Revelon and are hinged, you pinch them to open and they adjust to grasp any size curler - I bought them at a drug store 12 for $10.00 (these clips have lasted the whole 15 years and still look new);
2) if you want your curls to really last - use a heat setting spray - lightly - on your dry hair. This will really increase the time your curls will last;
3) once you get the system of always having a curler steaming - while your roll one - have one on getting ready - you will only ever have to wait for the first curler.

These curlers are light weight and easy to wear while you run around - but you can really only run around if you buy different clips then the one they come with!

Your hair if process will look in better condition after you curl it (it takes away the friz).
I hope you like them as much as I do - I have to order them from the states now but they are worth every penny!

Product Rating: 4 So far so good, have to tweak it a little..
Reviewer: D from Canada  Fri Sep 28 2007

I have long, thick, wavy hair that loves to frizz, especially in the wet weather we have out here. Before my kids were born, I used to wet-set in massive velcro rollers and either use a dryer bonnet for 45 min, or sleep overnight (ouch!) After the arrival of the kids, I didn't have the luxury of spending hours on my hair so went through the whole rotation of leaving it wavy with LOTS of product (and look like a mop at the end of the day), to using various ceramic flat irons which ended up frying my hair and making it look worse after years of abuse. I rec'd this set today and used it in air-dried hair with only a leave-in conditioner (I wanted the waves to drop - that's my strategy, as I don't like curls). The waves were luxurious, bouncy and glossy after such a short time (10 min?)! I used a touch of polishing lotion and hairspray.

They did drop more than I wanted by the end of the day, although some wave remained, so I'm going to try a mousse or setting lotion and see if that helps.

The jumbo rollers are not 2 inchers (as I hoped) but more like 1.5" - I wish they were larger. Also I wish you could choose the rollers - I have no use for the med-small ones and might sell them on eBay or do the kids' hair. I need more jumbos!

Still excited to see the possibilities after some tweaking to get the 'right' procedure.

Product Rating: 4 Love it

I hate the way the curling and flat irons dry out my hair. Never a problem with product. I love it too and I have burned out a few units in the process!

Product Rating: 4 Love it, except...

Love love LOVE the results! I've used this for years and have always been pleased. However I've had to replace it three times; perhaps I've used it so much that the core had burned out.

Product Rating: 2 Curler tops don't fit snug on curlers, but still like the product
Reviewer: Sally from New Orleans  Sun Aug 12 2007

I've used this product for at least 15 years. Finally my old steamer broke and the foam on my old curlers was falling apart, so I ordered this new one. I thought by now they would color coded the curlers to size to make it easier to find the sizes, but they did not, but the most disappointing thing is that the curler tops do not clip snuggly on to the curlers like the old ones did. I still had my old curlers and switched some of the old tops out to go with the new curlers. Also, I think this ionic feature may just be a scam. I don't see any difference when using or not using it. Still this is a very good product for ladies with very, fine straight hair like mine. The curls last all day.

Product Rating: 5 I LOVE these curlers!
Reviewer: Sarah from Midland, MI  Thu Aug 09 2007

I have super thick hair down to the middle of my back. It used to be nice and straight but the last couple of years I've developed a weird totally 80s patch of wavy hair on each side of my head. This means I have to straighten it or curl it. Since my hair is so thick it takes at least 45 minutes just to dry it, let alone make it straight. I let my hair air dry mostly over night then I use these curlers in the morning. I bought extra of the biggest curlers and can get my whole head rolled up in less than 15 minutes. I only leave them in for about 10 minutes (more than that gives me super curly hair and with it being thick...this means super BIG hair) What I get when I'm done is beautifully smooth and shiny hair with a little bit of curl at the bottom and next to no damage! I love this set, I don't know what I'd do without it....yeah, I do know, I'd walk around with goofy totally 80s wavy patches on both sides of my head. *:)

Product Rating: 4 Great product with some problems
Reviewer: Liz   Thu Jul 19 2007

Problem number one!
The foam does not last! My set is old and the orginal one that really works really well, but all of the foam on the rollers is disinigrating! There should be replacement foams you can buy w/o having to buy a whole new roller! The rollers seem to be made to replace the foam since the tops pop off for easy replacement... but WHERE do you get the replacement foam???

Problem two:
The ends of your hair - if they do not make it in the roller get jagged the wrong way and are frizzy and straight - very ugly! The only solution I see is to be very careful to get to the very end as you curl and the larger curlers work better... again with poor foam it is almost impossible to wrap your ends around the curler b/c the foam has shrunk and has no buoyancy.

Otherwise GREAT product that you can add conditioner too and it will actually curl your hair and condition it - UNLIKE all other products that fry and dry out your hair! You get soft bouncy long lasting curls with this product.

Product Rating: 4 Works great in low humidity areas
Reviewer: Kerri from Houston, TX  Sat May 26 2007

I have the original pink one and I have had it for 13 years. I grew up in west Texas which is very dry and it did amazing things with my hair which is baby fine ( I have a lot of hair but it is fine and hard to hold a curl) but the first time I used it when I moved to Houston it left my hair very fruzzy because if the intense humidity here. I still use it when I go to west Texas to visit and it is amazing.

Product Rating: 4 make it stop
Reviewer: annie from ny, ny  Thu Apr 19 2007

the ionic steamer makes an annoying clicking sounds. if you switch it to regular steam, it goes away, but the steam isn't as strong. curls don't last as long as everyone says they do. i have medium thick hair.

Product Rating: 3 so-so
Reviewer: Tatiana from Miami, FL  Thu Apr 19 2007

Prior to purchasing the product I've read several reviews complimenting this product quality. Even there was one from a woman in FL. Well I purchased the product and somehow dissapointed. I live in South Florida. And I guess I can blame it on humidity, but all the curls don't stay longer than 20 minutes.
Maybe this product works much better in other dry climates. I decided to keep it at the end and send to my mom. Let's see how she'll like it.
Straight hair is still in fashion after all.

Product Rating: 5 Great Product....Best Curler that I have ever owned
Reviewer: Patty from Millbrook, NY  Tue Apr 17 2007

Over the years I have owned 6 Caruso's. The first one lasted a long time and when it broke, I ordered 5 more to put on the shelf for back-ups. I love the way it curls my hair. It doesn't burn it, but leaves it in great condition. The 5 no-salt machines have lasted me approximately 10 years. I am currently using my last machine. I believe that each would have lasted longer but I have seriously hard water and never bothered using distilled, which led to mineral build-up and damage to the machine. I highly recommend this product if you have straight hair and like to spice up your style occassionally for an evening out. It is a nice change!

Product Rating: 1 It died on me after only a month!!!!
Reviewer: Marianne from Weymouth, MA  Mon Apr 16 2007

I just bought my Caruso a month ago and all of a sudden it doesn't produce steam any more!! I heard great things about Caruso but I think I'll go back to my Conair!

Product Rating: 2 it dies on you
Reviewer: Lori Sawyer from LA CA  Mon Apr 09 2007

I had the original pink one that took salt that lasted over 20 years and I gave it away to purchase the new one without salt and I had two and they both died within weeks. It stopped dead but I smelled a burning rubber both times and saw sparks. The product really made my hair nice but it doesn't last longer than a few weeks. LS

Product Rating: 1 Too much trouble
Reviewer: Janet from Greensboro  Fri Mar 23 2007

I tried it several times. I didn't get much curl. The last time I tried to curl it tighter and ended up "squishing" the curlers which are just like those old pink sponge curlers we grew up with. It's too much trouble to continually put the curler on the stand. Because the curlers and clips don't fit into a holder, you have to have something to put them in. It just takes up too much space.

Product Rating: 3 They are OK
Reviewer: TM from NJ  Thu Mar 22 2007

I don't really see what the big deal is about this product. They curl hair, but it is quite irritating to have to steam each curler individually. I would prefer if there was a case that steamed all the curlers at the same time. The hair does hold though and the curls stay so the product serves its purpose.

Product Rating: 4 annoying clicking noise
Reviewer: annie from florida  Wed Mar 21 2007

I love the way the curls come out and they last so long. the book comes with styling tips on how to get spiral curls, bouncy curls or lots of volume. the only complaint i have is is makes this annoying clicking noise the entire time its in use. i called and they said the regular one doesn't do that. i suggest buying extra rollers if you only want tight curls or just loose curls/volume.

Product Rating: 5 caruso hairsetter
Reviewer: Faye from South Carolina  Mon Mar 19 2007

I have natural curly hair and it frizzes a lot.I use to use the old type of hot curlers and my hair looked dry.I tried the caruso curlers at a friend's house and loved the way my hair looked. It was shiny, had no frizz. My hair looked healthy.I purchased the ion steam hairsetter& absolutely love it. The steam seems to make my hair healthier, softer, shinier. It only takes minutes to do all my hair.I would recommend this to anyone.
