does this setter only heat one roller at a time?
Does setter only heat one roller at a time? The picture makes it look like this is how it is. If so, how long does it take to heat a roller?

Yes it heats one curler at a time, but it only takes a few seconds to heat up. It may seem time consuming, but I put the curler on the steamer and seperate the piece of hair i'm going to roll and by then it's done! I roll my hair and then put the next curler on.

"Ion" vs. no ion set-which is better?
Caruso 30 Molecular Ion Steam features "Ion" steam and costs a few more dollars than the other "Professional unit" (neither require salt). Is the "ion" version signicantly better; i.e. worth the extra money in terms of results? Pls advise, thx.

What does the salt do ?
Can salt be used in the latest version or was it suggested for only the 1st one ?.Should you be using distilled water in all the Caruso steamers ??? Should you remove all the water from the steamer part itself after using ?What is the expected life on the newer model ?Can I purchase assorted size rollers in the $ 9.99 pack?I have a Cruso steamer that I purchased on the Home Shopping Channel 13 years ago and am very pleased with the results and have not had any trouble with it. I am interested in purchasing a 2nd one for back up purposes but am undecided whether to purchase the older original one or the newer one. After reading the info on your website I am uncertain about the newer steamer as it seems to have more problems or doesn't last as long or work as well. Will your steamers ever be offered on the Home Shopping Channel again ?? If so, when ??Your feedback is appreciated.Brenda Johnston

Flat, fine color treated hair
I am no longer getting my hair colored as it has become so tangly it is like a brillo pad after shampooing. Then I have to put so much conditioner in that it looks dull. I have found the Caruso ionic steam rollers do add shine but the curl is not as good as with a curling iron.I am following the directions and only steaming the curler for 6-7 seconds (actually 4-5 would be the directions but I got so little from that I went longer). Am I doing something wrong here? I also steam the roller cover.I also find the covers very hard to get on. They must be aligned exactly right. That is hard to do in the back of my head where I can't see. Anyone know of a good way to match them up quickly? Thanks if there is a reply out there.Paige

Oh my goodness, YES! I was unable to do anything with my straight hair except straighten it! Difusing didn't work, the curling iron didn't work, regular hair rollers didn't work. It didn't matter how much gel, mouse or hair spray i wore, my hair just did not budge!! But this product really works!! You need to get it! You will not be dissapointed!!

I used one of these sets for many years. We moved two years ago and I got rid of it. That was a very bad decision. I thought a short hair cut with highlighting would make life easier and it's been so much easier traveling with a curling iron. Unfortunately, my hair hasn't looked good since I stopped using it, so I'm ordering another one!!

It's probably the just the outlet you're using! Try plugging something else in to see if it works!

Have bought several steamers and they don't last.
What the heck am I doing wrong. I have bought at least six steamers over the past ten years. They always quit on me. I have hundreds of curlers cause I keep buying new sets and the curlers come with it. I would love to just buy the steamer but don't see where that is available. I don't know why my steamers don't last. I use distilled water and clean the unit with vinegar regularly but the unit stops working way too soon. I have taken them apart too, to see if maybe it's just a case of a loose wire but haven't had any luck. Am I the only one in the world to have this problem. I love the way the unit curls but can't seem to keep one alive and they are just too expensive to keep replacing like this.

I think it might be the vinegar. The last time I used the vinegar, mine died the next time I plugged it in. I thought I was doing the right thing with the vinegar then figured I might have used to much. Mine normally last between 2 or 3 years. I use it every day so I think I just wear them out. I used to leave the steaming unit in the water & just added more water the next day. Now I have started taking it out of the water after I unplug it. That seems to extent its life a little longer.I know one thing, without it, my head looks like a fussball. Way to much experimenting with haircolor. The steamer smooths out my fried frizz.

With much interest I read the feedback on the website re the Caruso cold steam curling unit. Like others, I owned the original steamer which required salt (I used corn starch). It was great - lasted for 10 years (but didn't use it most of the time - just occasionally). A year ago I bought the newer version. It's quite inferior. It takes longer to steam, doesn't steam as much and died after a year. I have used it frequently: probably almost daily for 6 months. I'll probably buy another - but don't know why we have to purchase MORE ROLLERS when all I need is the steamer unit. Overall, I find this product is easy, quick, doesn't dry out my colored hair. I only leave rollers in a few minutes because my fine hair just needs a little body. Andrea

You must buy one steamer unit per year on this newer Caruso model. I am not sure why, but I do it as they do quit on me on or about the same time each year. I called the manufacturer when my unit first quit on me and was told the steamer unit could be replaced easily and without too much expense. Mail a check to Helen of Troy in the amount of $6.50 (six dollars and fifty cents), ALONG WITH your old & non-working steamer unit, to: Helen of Troy 1 Helen of Troy Plaza El Paso, TX 79912 They will mail you a replacement (new) steamer unit without the curlers. You don't have to buy the curlers each time. If you want the curlers or other items then request a catalog from them. Their telephone number is 800-487-8769 and they are open M-F to take your calls. While I agree that the 1st version of the Caruso unit where we added salt was the one that worked best I must also say that the ease and convenience of using steam to curl my hair is something I would not want to be without. I am spoiled for the Caruso steamer!Furthermore, I have always found the Helen of Troy customer service department to be very helpful and they have replaced my units annually for about 10 years now. I have only ever once had to replace curlers as they are easily washed and last forever... I hope this helps.

Try sticking a pin or needle in the hole where the steam comes from and move it around a little. I have done this several times to clean out the debris.. and it should restart and work like brand new again.

I think if you turn the steamer unit over after you are done steaming and it's unplugged, it drains the excess water out the top of the unit. In fact, once my steamer wouldn't start steaming so I did that, turned it over, gave it a shake and then tried again and it worked. These steamers somehow get clogged even though you are using distilled water. I think it is imperative that you remove all water from the unit each time you are done using it. I have the same Caruso steamer for years now. I love it. Peace out hope this helps.

you have to get a voltage converter (US is 120V, overseas is 220V) and also a plug converter (ours are vertical and theirs are round). don't think that just converting the plug will work, you need the converter or else you will fry anything you plug in!

Adding salt to steamer
Several years ago I bought my first Caruso Steam Roller unit. It worked great. I added just a sprinkle a salt to the water and the curls lasted until I washed my hair...in Florida with high humidity, and even with my fine, limp hair! Now, after a botched haircut, I bought my second one that doesn't require salt. For the first hour, my hair looks fine, then goes limp. What happened?

After you get the look you want, spray very little hairspray to your curls. Your curls also stay longer if you blow dry your hair first.
