Using any flat iron submitted by: anomynous, Wed Aug 29 2007

There are many flat irons out there that releases heat. People have to realize that no matter what flat iron that you choose to use can be damaging to your hair, you have to use some type of heat protectant for your hair. Too much heat can put a lot of stress in hair and besides you cannot flat iron your hair everyday. Give your hair a break and give yourself a good deep and penetrating conditioner once a week. Remember, every individual's hair out there is different.
Using products with the Chi submitted by: Victoria, Sun Jun 24 2007

I'm a stylist, and let me tell you right now... you have to use products with ANY heat that you put on your hair... or else! You're not supposed to be ridiculous and use hairspray, or gels, just those handy dandy 'heat safe' products that say right on the product to use them with flat irons, curling irons, etc.
Not only does it provide a better effect, it protects your hair. Hair is dry. Adding heat to hair makes it more dry! Think of it like using a buffer cream when you get your nails buffed out with that annoying electric drill. With out the protective cream, your nails get all hot and start to hurt, crack & break. Nails & hair are made of the same thing... See the problem?
So, the person telling you to not use products in your hair before you flat iron it....... don't listen to that. Unless you want your hair to break off, that is. It drives me insane when people say a flat iron is breaking their hair off and they don't know why. I'll tell you why, honey!
No products before straightening, waaaay too hot, or using the *wrong* products before you flat iron it. It's not a mystery!
Hair companies sell pre-straightening/curling products for a reason. Might want to keep that in mind & start protecting your hair and not pointing fingers at a flat iron that you crank to max heat with no protective sprays or creams. ;)
Oh, and back to the flat iron being too hot and burning/breaking the hair off... try to set it to the lowest setting and work your way up. Most clients have a tendency to crank it up, and there's no need for it. Just go from different temperatures and test different strands of hair and then use the lowest setting your hair will straighten on.
Good luck! :D
10 Tips for the Chi submitted by: Sam, Thu May 03 2007

I have several tips for using this.
1. Don't go over a piece of hair until it's completely cooled off, otherwise it will burn. 2. If you ever drop your Chi, be very cautious using it again. 3. Be gentle with the on-off switch, it's only plastic. 4. Don't leave it plugged in all day on, it gets very hot and WILL burn your countertop. 5. If you burn yourself, put COLD water on the burn IMMEDIANTLY! 6. Don't hold the iron on a piece of hair too long. 7. Try doing your hair in layers- top layer sectioned up to do the underlayers and so on- for fastest straightening time. 8. Be gentle with the cord and when plugging and unplugging it, don't just yank it in and out of the socket. 9. If you have thin hair, don't squeeze the handle too tight and run the iron fastly through your hair. 10. Don't put products in your hair before you use the iron... it will probablly burn your hair.
